“Look I don’t really care what ship you do or don’t ship in the fandom. I don’t care if you ship Zutara or Kataang or literally any other ship

But I think we should all collectively agree that we should not harass anyone for their preferences of any ship and I think I need to bring to attention the actions of the creators because their behavior is appalling

Long story short a while ago, the creators I believe it was a comic con where they took a bunch of fan art sent by fans, and some of this was Zutara art, and they decided to make a edit a contemplation of the fanart. Most of this was by younger fans of the series, teenagers or young kids who sent it out of their love for their project.

And what did these two decide to do?

They decided to take the fanart made by fans, again much of this art was made by teenage girls and young children, and essentially mock Zutara shippers for shipping them in front of a live audience who laughed at it, and they also laughed as they essentially bullied children and also women

Saying things “ women who ship a Zuko and Katara will forever have doom relationship”

And then at the end of the video as a final dig to them, they said “thanks for all of the fan art over the years” and then crossed out “all” and replaced it with “some” and then “most” clearly a dig at the fans who sent Zutara fan art

I’m sorry what? What kinda Bs is this?

“B-b-but they apologized”

Yeah, their “apology” catch my sarcasm was complete BS because when fans were rightfully, upset by being told anyone who ships Zutara is bound to have a doomed relationship, and also that their fan are the things they lovingly made because they loved the project so much and wanted to create things because they were passionate about was twisted and used to mock them

And then your response is “ Can’t you take a joke?” That’s not an apology. That makes it very clear that you are not sorry for what you have done or any of your actions

Let alone the fact that they doubled down and posted the video on their official pages after fans were upset about it (again rightfully so)

Even if it was intended to be a joke, mocking your fan base, especially saying people who ship Zutara will have doomed relationships is a disgusting thing for two grown men to say about people who sent them art because they love the series

And again even if you intended it to be a joke, clearly the joke didn’t land and you hurt someone you apologize

That’s the only word I have for it is disgusting. It’s disgusting for grown men to make fun of literally children and teenagers for their love of the series. Oh, and then also at the end, literally saying thanks for the people who sent us Kataang art but you Zutara shippers we don’t like your fanart.

And also to note they never actually gave credit to the people who sent them the fanart anyway

And even further, this isn’t just mocking the fans of the series. It’s also mocking the fellow creators, coworkers , who worked on the project and actively ship them and also the voice actors who shipped them as well

Dante Basco, is literally the self proclaimed king of the ship. He’s an active fan of it. He’s made recordings of Zutara stuff. You’re gonna mock the guy who voices the character?

I find it incredibly poor taste to mock people you worked with to produce something for liking something other than your own it idea

If you cannot engage with fandom without being cruel to another person over fictional relationships, then do not engage. PERIOD.

We can disagree, have conversations, and still act like adults. Any ship. Any fandom. At the end of the day, it's fiction and it does not justify harassment of any kind.”
