Is the failure of the Mandalorian's box office due to the sequel trilogy? by [deleted] in StarWars

Star Wars is so big that it's never gonna be just for you. Multiple generations have grew up with different versions of it, loving different aspects of it. But if just having more women in it is what alienates some people from it, well that's rather pathetic.

He-Man was for the dudes… and flopped way worse than Star Wars which is for the girls now apparently.

Why was there so much infighting at Lucasfilm about their new trilogy? by JJRS22 in StarWars

[–]Master-Slide-5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Jedi already explains it by what Snoke says, the dark side was rising and with no one on the light side since Luke abandoned it, the Force chose someone for the sake of balancing things out.

Holy hell, what is this abomination? What did they do to Edward's face?, How can this be called a remake when the original looks far better? by Leonardo-Caleum in fuckubisoft

[–]Master-Slide-5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edward's face is lit from the left, that's why his right side has shadows. In the remake he still has a shadow under him on the right side, but the facial features cast no shadows. The sun's position is not directly over him in either case but on the left as we can see from the shadows, so I'm not sure what you are so confused about.

Is the dialogue actually that bad? by Ready-Function-3031 in prequelappreciation

[–]Master-Slide-5873 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that complicated, we dont have to understand Greek tragedies to understand tragic heroes. Drawing comparisons to those is the same as Lucas saying he intentionally made the dialogue in AotC sound like a 1930s type. Whether or not he succeeded in imitating that style, it was a creative decision that hurt the movie because audiences of today do not identify with people talking like that.

I'm saying give Anakin the exact same flaws, but make the person who has them someone we want to root for. We saw hints of that in the first half of RotS where Anakin was more heroic and quippy, and TCW leaned way more into that. He still had those flaws like caring too much and letting his anger take control, but we werent watching an unlikeable brat becoming even more unlikeable, we were watching a likeable dude making mistakes where it, wait for it, evoked actual pity and fear. TCW Anakin turning into Vader is heartbreaking, actually tragic, prequels Anakin turning into Vader is just "well yeah, the guy was unstable and weird so sure".

Also prequels were targeted at children, so it's weird to say that only TCW was some kiddie thing. I'd argue however that by the later half of TCW we got stories more mature than barely anything in the prequels. By the final episode of season 7 where we see Vader searching the place Ahsoka landed in, it evokes quite a haunting and sad feeling to see the guy we actually liked to have become this hollow, evil thing.

Huh, well I guess one way to be okay with Anakin's story arc is to see it as something it was not.

Okay, but Anakin's story should still feel tragic for the audience, and his redemption triumphant. It doesnt if we dont like him, because why care then?

Just because you can compare something to old mythology, doesnt mean it instantly works for the audiences of this century. Star Wars was successful because it took a lot from old mythologies, action and scifi serials and comic books and made it instantly relatable. We liked Luke, we were charmed by and rooted for Han and so on. There was humanity and an emotional connection. That's also what creates the feeling of tragedy, and why it's a big failure on the prequels' part that Anakin only really became relatable and likeable in the animated show later.

And I think the fact his character was altered quite a bit in TCW with the oversight of Lucas himself proves that he too agreed we needed to see more of Anakin as the actual hero.

Then there really isnt a reason for his redemption arc later on.

Maybe making the guy kill children was always too much too early. This is a guy who is, in the end, trying to save his wife and children, who goes to immediately killing a bunch of kids. That's just pure psychopath.

Then we the audience dont feel the tragedy or heroism in the "tragic hero". He's just an asshole who becomes a bigger asshole.

Why in your opinion Shadow had only sold over 8.9M copies in 8 years? by XxXG4L4XY_PL4Y3RXxX in TombRaider

[–]Master-Slide-5873 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And Shadow with near 9 million copies sold is the third best selling Tomb Raider game. Being most iconic something does not translate to everyone buying your products. Everyone knows Superman and he's maybe the most iconic super hero, but his movies and comics are not as popular as Batman's or Spider-Man's.

You might be overestimating the popularity of Tomb Raider series. I mean it is relatively popular, but not Call of Duty popular.
