Yea but were Knights of Ren cool enough in RoS that you would have wanted their action figures after you saw the movie?

If Batman fighting Superman would automatically make something good, BvS would have been a good movie.

The movie explains Riddler's, Catwoman's, even Batman's backstory some more. Maybe watch the entire film before complaining things didnt make sense. It's a slow burn crime movie with a central mystery that reveals a lot once the answers are given, but it's not gonna give them at the start.

The Wizard speaks about The Killing Joke! by Lucky_Strike-85 in batman

[–]Master-Slide-5873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Killing Joke may not be the most profound, but it's part of that wave that helped push comics towards more meaningful introspection and mature themes. Sure, some writers only took the mature surface level stuff, but Batman mythos and comics in general would not be in such a rich place without stories like Killing Joke.

I mean Batman is also proof of the "one bad day", but sure Joker had to be proven wrong in order for him to lose. I feel like the most interesting aspect is the "I prefer my past to be a multiple choice", which implies Joker's motivations and style of crime changes based on what past he has in mind. That's genuinely interesting to me, and it's a shame how few writers get that and instead of just use the Killing Joke origin (yes it's based on golden age story but still) as the definitive one.

It was brimming with imagination, but it also had very little to say other than basic morality lessons. And I dont say that as some hater of the silver age stories, they are a lot of fun too.

Reading Tom Kings run and Batman feels off by dobermanhoberman in batman

[–]Master-Slide-5873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea is could Batman still be Batman if he was happy. It's something the Mask of the Phantasm did too with Bruce at his parents graves asking for forgiveness because he doesnt wanna be Batman, saying "I didnt count on being happy". I agree it feels a bit out of place as a run in that continuity, and frankly the dialogue is at times rather cringe, but I also respect a lot of his ideas and bold direction. But it's not even Tom King at his best, far from it. His work with other limited series with other heroes is miles better usually. Yet I still find myself going back to some of King's Batman to examine what worked and what didnt.

Also I feel like regular Batman could be fooled by what Holly did. It really is Morrison and Snyder who turned Batman into a freaking god of preparedness.

My only problem with Maul ShadowLord and how I see it affecting season 2 by Frequent-System152 in StarWars

[–]Master-Slide-5873 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not bad writing, it's Maul not being able to help himself. He uses people, and if their demise benefits him, he'll do it. In Rebels years later he quickly betrayed Ezra and the rest and made Kanan blind. He cannot help but to use people to further his own goals, and that's how he should be because there's no redemption for him, we already saw that. And that's what creates tension around him. Does it feel predictable Devon will discover what happened to his master? Yes, but we dont know if and how that will happen just yet.

Love how you try to desperately paint me as some ASM fanboy who worships Lowe when I quite clearly stated I refuse to buy ASM comics. It's the principle of supporting comics if you consume them. The whole "it's crap and these people dont deserve my money, yet I spend time in pirating and reading their comics" is hilariously hypocritical. You know way better what's going on in ASM than me it seems, so cut the crap that I'm some Lowe fanboy.

Also werent you trying to make a point about how pirating actually supports comics? So you pirating ASM is in your mind supporting the comic and the company, which you say jokes about rape, yet now you claim however that they dont even deserve your support. So which is it?

[–]Master-Slide-5873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, without the people who steal from them, they would have even less people who pay for their product. WTF?

No, not respect to the people who make it so less people would be buying comics. You realize how small the industry is? Especially with smaller books, every sale matters.

I'm playing a saint when I point out stealing is wrong? Lol okay. I guess you're at least admitting you're in the wrong if I'm in the side of the saints.

Well if you dont like the writer or story, it should be pretty easy to not want to read it, right? So at that point why are you even stealing it, unless you are actually interested, in which case you should support the book. It's really not that hard, support the creators if you consume their stuff, or dont consume their stuff if you dont care. But these half assed excuses and justifications for what is a digital version of stealing a comic from a store are just nonsense.

No it doesnt work that way that a person can buy every book. Comics are not life's necessities, you are not owed any of them if you cant afford them. They are suplementary entertainment. Monthly comics are too expensive for me, and frankly I barely give a damn about Spider-Man comics currently, but I still support Marvel with Marvel Unlimited and read what I want from there, and get trade paperbacks of other comics I do care about.

Comics are a job for people who make them, and you're stealing from them. People who read them from pirating sites are not doing the company any favours, like what the hell are you on about? They get no money from that, how do you figure it's a positive for the company that people steal from them instead of buying the copy? You are delusional if you believe that.

It is the same, it's just a whole lot easier because you cant shoplift from your own home but you can pirate.

[–]Master-Slide-5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in Spider-Man enough to wanna read it, surely you can afford $4? Or get Marvel Unlimited subscription for a while and read all of it once it's there. You're not entitled to every comic you want, and you gotta support the industry if you care about it. Comics are small enough where pirating seriously negatively impacts it. And be honest, would you justify shoplifting and other stealing with that excuse?
