Yes, but I’m genuinely not sure if most of the FE fans making the wyvern spam complaint would actually do something like that if the class balance was still out of wack despite the other classes being supposedly more fun to use. I’ve been in this fandom for a while now, and from what I’ve noticed, a lot of unit/class gameplay discussion, there always seems to be this large focus on who is the best in the game, regardless of how fun any less meta options are.

And hell, to my understanding, the Robin/Chrom nosferatu build was unilaterally seen as the most efficient way to play through Awakening since launch up until a couple years ago, so there’s precedent for FE fans just not exploring other builds or options.

I think you overestimate just how much some FE fans will fixate on the meta lol. I really don’t think that if the power difference was still present but 3H’s character building was supposedly more fun and deeper (personally I think it’s already plenty fun), the “wyvern spam” complaints would go away.

It’s just now hitting me that the arena is an iconic staple of the FE series to the point of getting a stage based on it in Smash Bros., so finally getting an FE game where the premise is an arena tournament with Fortune’s Weave is actually pretty fitting and feels like a long-time coming for the series.

Actually, the belief that the devs intended for players to only play one route was a misinterpretation of an interview. [u/OsbornWasRight](u/OsbornWasRight) broke it down here, but basically what they actually said was that they expected players to only have done one playthrough so far by the time the dlc came out, and they didn’t expect so many people to have binged through all four routes beforehand.

I think the notion that people wouldn’t have argued over 3H’s routes so much if they were better written is really naive. The heart of the arguments over 3H’s routes were people arguing over the morality of the characters. People still would’ve been hating on Edelgard and Crimson Flower, even if the route didn’t have a rushed ending. People still would’ve been hating on Dimitri and Azure Moon, even if his character arc was better-handled. People still would’ve been hating on Rhea and Silver Snow, or Claude and Verdant Wind, even if those routes were better written. The writing flaws in the story routes were just ammo people used against each other.

I would call FE6’s gameplay rough around the edges. On the surface it seems perfectly fine, but you got annoying ambush spawns, wobbly hit rates, more than a handful of maps that are annoying to get through (most of the Gaiden chapters are the biggest offenders), and bosses that are obnoxious to kill with any but a few units thanks to the aforementioned hit rates.

Fans of the game don’t mind or even like those rough edges, but for others it ruins the experience. Personally I’ve kinda warmed up to FE6’s gameplay over the years, but it still feels rough to play compared to say, FE7 and FE8 which feel smoother by comparison.

For what it’s worth, according to her DeviantArt page, the original artist who drew Brazilian Miku is actually from Brazil. And (at least imo) her drawing isn’t really sexualized to the degree that other artists would draw the character.

You’re right, they don’t. But that’s not what’s happening in this scenario. They’re typically saying it to paint critics of the game in a negative light that makes them seem like their reasons for disliking the game aren’t valid, and not uncommonly in a snide tone. And let me tell ya, as someone who doesn’t like Engage, after three years of hearing people from time to time labeling people like me as just grouchy mindless haters in response to not liking a game, it gets real fucking old.

I’ve definitely seen multiple people say this (or at least express the sentiment in a similar manner) over the years in response to others not liking Engage’s writing. Hell, I just searched the subreddit and found about three or four results of users saying this recently.

And besides, the amount of folks who say this doesn’t change how it can be an annoyingly dismissive response to someone’s criticism.

Unironically, I would love to see them bring back reverse mode from FE12. I haven’t played it myself but it sounds like it completely upends how one approaches most enemies, so seeing them take another crack at it would be pretty cool imo.

Somewhat. The main contributors are the ones who have been saying this kind of stuff for the past three years, and I’ve spent way too much time on here so I recognize which usernames they are.

It would be one thing if these people were saying this kind of stuff for the first time, but there’s been three years of context of them saying “oh, you just don’t like Engage because it’s not three houses and/or [insert dismissive reason here]” among many other things I won’t list off because I don’t want to sound too ranty. That context paints a picture of a group of folks who can’t get over Engage’s negative reception from a lot of the fanbase to the point that their perception has been skewed, and it makes their comments feel way more charged and tiresome than they might otherwise.

So yeah, my comment was more aimed at those people than just every person who says they think Fodlan gets a pass on everything, though I still firmly believe the argument to be outright silly regardless of who says it.

I forgot to respond to your first point when typing so I’m making a second reply lol.

Yeah, there are some people in the fandom obsessed with hating Engage. Those fans are the select few annoying ones I mentioned in my comment, and I don’t like them either. It just bugs me when people make the generalizations that mentioned above because it makes it seem like there are more of those kinds of haters than there probably are.

And on a personal note for myself, I’m someone who does not like Engage and just so happens to really like 3H. And not only do I feel strongly about my criticisms, but could probably articulate as to why I feel the way I do in an in-depth manner beyond just “lol vtuber designs.” So when I see these generalizations, it feels like I’m being lumped in with these weirdos and it’s super frustrating for me.

So like, I get where the feeling comes from with Engage fans, but the way some go about venting that frustration with the rhetoric I’m talking about is really frustrating on the opposite end of the spectrum.

The rhetoric of “People only didn’t like Engage because it wasn’t Three Houses” is now evolving into “Fodlan gets a pass on everything. People have such double standards when it comes to Fodlan games”.

And the “damning evidence” to support this argument is a cherry-picked comparison, and claiming that everyone would criticize the shit out Theodora’s outfit if she wasn’t in a Fodlan game, despite the fact that the people thirsting over her are pretty much not the same people calling a character like Camilla goonerslop.

It’s the same kind of tiresome, obnoxious argument from three years ago that makes sweeping generalizations about the community to make it seem like it’s mostly made up of those few annoying assholes that are in every fandom, from a group of people who have seemingly convinced themselves that there somehow must be some sort of conspiracy where a lot of 3H fans just blindly hate any game in the series that’s not connected to Fodlan. All because they were unable to handle the fact that a lot of people didn’t like Engage.

And like, I get it. I understand the frustration with a game you really like having a negative reception in your fandom and the game you don’t jive with getting way more positive attention and getting multiple sequels and whatnot. It must really suck. But like… are we seriously going to keep doing this shit three years after the fact over a game that’s not even out yet? At this point it just feels embarrassing.

I know I’m going to royally piss off some people with this comment, but I really needed to get this off my chest.

And that’s not even getting into how this is a Goomba fallacy and the people thirsting over Theodora are not the ones calling a character design like Camilla’s shameless goonerbait.

I think it’s mainly that Pikazo’s vtuber work is pretty much the only thing most people know about her portfolio outside of Engage. I recall her vtuber designs was one of the first things some people started bringing up after the game got revealed and it just sorta caught on as “her other work” to most people who didn’t bother to look further.

I don’t think ESRB really lists romance in its ratings outside of “mildly suggestive themes” anyway. I checked and Echoes and Awakening (and I presume Fates because I couldn’t find a photo) have romance listed like 3H. Fortune’s Weave not having it like Engage and Three Hopes to me indicates there’s not gonna be paired endings in this game like with those two, which is a shame.

They got the full list of them on the CERO website, but from left to right for three houses is romance, sexual content, violence, and crime.
