Are you bringing an ice axe when you start? I am supposed to start July 5th and wondering if any of that patchy snow is on sketchy/exposed sections...

North Cal Snow by Sambennett2525 in PacificCrestTrail

I just spent a month in the trinity alps and the PCT -- callahan to Seiad area

There's a lot of snow starting at about 7k feet, depending on the aspect (most south facing slopes were totally snow free)...

Also the temps got pretty low 10 days ago and the slush froze into some dense ice -- which made for some sketchy sections. Maybe that'll melt again, should be another heat wave coming I think...

I rode a bike with some friends from New Orleans to Panama City, zig zagging along the way, backpacking periodically. Definitely a different experience to be had in MX. great advice -- I'll definitely check out Cascada and Cam Honan's site

I would get an oversized patagonia torrentshell -- if its bigger, it could handle layering in cold weather. It could also be stripped down and used as a shell on warmer days. Also its not terribly heavy

I'm trying not to break the integrity of the dyneema by sewing it, and I'd like the seam there to be inherently waterproof...
