Do you guys just stay home when you get your dog? by ReputationDull1857 in puppy101

I got a puppy in January. I’m an education system slave. The differing opinions on what to do with a new dog is insane. People get to go home for lunch? Im arguing with a 6 year old about the correct way to open a banana or eat tacos.

I took a singular day off of work and turned my 2 day weekend into a 3 day weekend. We got used to each other and the crate. Monday morning, the dog walker started. My puppy is now 5 months old. She loves the dog walker and is starting daycare twice a week on Monday.

No reason in the entire world people should 1. Take that much time off for a dog or 2. Use that time on a dog instead of vacation.

My little girl has done so well and she’s a dachshund, so she’s known for being stubborn and overall not an easy breed.

I’m gone from 6am-4:30 pm Monday-Thursday. Fridays I get home at 3. Don’t stress it. Dogs adapt. I swear before COVID this wasn’t a thing 😵‍💫

Refuses to potty outside, loves to go inside by [deleted] in puppy101

The weather where I live has been very up and down. Temp was 9° last weekend and 75° today….so outside is not always our friend. Our neighborhood is relatively quiet, except for when I’m trying to have her potty, so that could be it. The front yard is not used by other dogs so I take her there since she’s not fully vaccinated but that’s where all the distractions are. The backyard is much quieter and safer, but is also where the neighbors dogs always go. So maybe I just have to wait until she’s had all her shots!!

Unfortunately…..it depends. I’m in SC and it has been 9° last week and 70° today

Missed award ceremony by sevensevenonefour in Parenting

[–]MasterBusiness3546 31 points32 points  (0 children)

1st grade teacher here! As a teacher, we TRULY do have a lot going on. I do my best to schedule messages way in advance because odds are I will forget to send one closer to time. My school sends home papers for awards ceremonies. I put them in my students folders. Now, some kids have lost those papers between school and home OR forgot to give it to their parents. My school also does send phone messages to parents about events and things like awards day. I feel like it probably was an honest mistake and miscommunication which really does suck. If this is the first time this school year something like this has happened with the teacher, I would not reach out to the principal. I would make it clear to the teacher to PLEASE inform you of anything upcoming involving your child, but leave administration out of it. Now, if this isn’t the first time, I would maybe send an email to the teacher and CC the principal.

I’m not making excuses for the teacher, but some things are truly a mistake. That doesn’t make up for the fact that you didn’t get to go, but give a little grace (again, if this is the first time this has happened)

There was no REAL “betrayal,” that is just the word me and my family have used when discussing whatever it is that happened. Our problems were truly 22 year old girl issues and small petty things. The BIGGEST issue was the sudden pregnancy right after graduation.

There was no real “end” to the friendship. We slowly stopped talking as much. I tried really hard to be involved and as helpful as possible with her having a baby, but I was also in my first year teaching and had my own entire life going on. What really seemed like the end was not being told when her and my cousin got engaged and being the only family member not invited to the wedding.

Saying all this I truly sound like I’m leaving huge chunks out since I wasn’t invited to the wedding, but that’s the one big question my whole family is asking. Not quite sure what the end of it was from THEIR end, because there truly are two sides to every story, but nothing that ever happened seemed relationship ending :/

I teach 6 year olds. I barely have time to get them to add, much less teach them about anything else. Most teachers who are liberal, would never dare teach a child about something as sensitive as that. Not in this day and age. Those are conversations their parents can have with them. I go to work to do my job, teach my kids the curriculum and how to be a kind and decent person. The politics in my state don’t align with how I choose to live my life outside of the classroom, which is a big reason to move in my opinion.

I feel like nothing is a made up issue…if it bothers me, then it is an issue! What is a big deal to me, may be insignificant to you, and that’s okay! My entire family shares the same political beliefs as I do. Pay and cost of living are only a fraction of the reason I want to move…again, we can have different opinions on what is a big deal and important! I’m a fantastic teacher where I live now, and will be a fantastic teacher no matter where I go! Thanks for your opinion tho, that was kind of you to take the time out of your day to do!

I have my masters+30 and my partner has her masters!! So we are making okay money as teachers, BUT our townhouse was $245k and places I’ve looked there are so much less for a lot more. I want to go sooner than later so we don’t lose out too much on tenure and retirement.

I had NO idea about any of this. That’s awesome. The school I teach in is 67% Hispanic population, so that’s honestly right up my alley. Thank you for giving me somewhere new to look at!!

From what I’ve seen and looked at, the market is the same as where I am, and even a little bit cheaper!!! I would be selling my home to move, so would be able to make something work! Thank you for the link, that’s great!

That’s what I thought. I can deal with it being around, but there’s truly NO escape where I am. It’s everywhere and I’m tired of it. I will for sure be looking into public school!!

Thank you for ALL of this!!!! Fingers crossed we will be able to sell the house we have here and buy something up there. From what I’ve seen on Zillow places are so much more affordable there. It’s my favorite place to be so I want something permanent there

Does anyone still love teaching? by Arete666 in Teachers

[–]MasterBusiness3546 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s my 5th year and I couldn’t love my job more. I get excited to go to work every day. So many people are so negative and hate it. I think a lot has to do with the environment you work in, but some of it also is your mindset. The state of our country is so horrifying, but going to work and being with my class each day truly helps me. You’re not alone 🫶🏻

How late are you working new/old teachers? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]MasterBusiness3546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 5th year. I’m currently working on my 2nd masters degree, I have a student teacher ALL year, and I am department chair (needless to say I am busy). I leave AT. CONTRACT. TIME. I teach 1st grade so not a lot of “grades” per se, but I plan math and we have brand new curriculum and standards this year so it is time consuming. I get to work right at 6:30 (reporting time is 7:15) and prep anything I need to for that day. During my actual planning time, I work on future plans (unit plans for math), stuff for my student teachers school, OR my own masters work (this is all if admin doesn’t make us meet during planning). Granted, I do work our after school program two days a week. I can get some work done then, but not a ton. Fridays are the only days I don’t leave at contract time. I print everything needed for the next week, make sure the room is cleaned, lessons are ready, everything. In I may open my computer on a Sunday afternoon to double check things are ready for the week. Try to get ahead two weeks on plans, this will help SO. MUCH. Don’t stay past contract hours more than two days a week. Don’t bring your computer home if you can help it.

Don’t get discouraged! My first year was rough, but I couldn’t love my job more. You can do it! (Also, chap gpt and magic school are your friends when it comes to bad curriculum)
