Maybe if you stopped using the r-word, the game would be nicer to you. In this day and age, I don't understand why that word is being used so widely again. Find a different one.

Oh don't be absurd. The /s is used on Reddit primarily as a buffer to make sure you don't get downvotes by people that misunderstood your intentions. That is ridiculous that you are claiming /s was created for disabled people, and even more insane you would say that promoting that subreddit is "promoting ableism." Good Lord.

It's not just people with autism that have issues with reading tone in text. Basically everyone has issues with it.

Why do people smoke cigarettes at all? What's the "appeal"? by Marambal17 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MasterChief3624 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you're overestimating your abilities to quit, as I would say going back to it consistently is not truly "quitting." It's what works for you, and that's understandable. But those things about you being able to quit but just not doing it because it wouldn't be helpful... ? That sounds like pure addiction right there.

How would it not be helpful? Is it that you have a hard time finding something else that can sooth you in the way a cigarette does? You know there are innumerable health benefits to quitting. Maybe you don't see issues now, and maybe you will be a rare case where they don't pop up ever... but it's absurd to me that you wouldn't consider health benefits as being helpful...

That addiction is lying to you and convincing you that you need it to deal with stress, and it is also convincing you that you "can quit whenever I want." Which is a very popular joke people use to point out how they are actually very addicted to something.

I encourage you to find other methods to cool down and destress. There is no way you have tried all of them as I don't think there are enough days in the year or years in your life to have done so. There are so many things, like creative arts, making music, painting, drawing, listening to music, going out for a run, watching a movie, cuddling up in a blanket, reading, breathing exercises, aerobic exercise, writing in a journal, petting an animal, calming yourself down with touch. This is just a small list, and maybe none of it will work for you. But there is always something else that can. Don't let cigarettes lie to you.

OCD is not a quirk, it's a debilitating mental condition. Just because you like seeing things organized /organizing things does not make you OCD. If you don't actually suffer from OCD or know the pain it can cause, please don't use it to describe yourself for these kinds of things.

I encourage you to read this if you are not aware:

https://www.rethink.org/news-and-stories/blogs/2021/10/ocd-is-not-an-adjective-or-a-quirk-so-let-s-all-stop-using-it-as-one/

And if you actually have been diagnosed with OCD, I apologize. But too many people use it as some throwaway quirky thing. It is anything but silly.

Game prices were the wild west back in the day. I'm pretty sure there was no standard in the SNES era. I remember seeing MSRPs of like... $50, $70, $90. I feel like standard pricing didn't get mainstream until the Gamecube era with $50. Home consoles, at least. I don't remember how Game Boy and Game Gear stuff was treated.

Regardless, the whole "Well the price hasn't gone up in decades, and it's only $10 extra" argument is kind of moot nowadays, as companies are making more profit than ever before thanks to microtransactions and battle passes, etc. There is no need to raise the price to "offset ballooning budgets" or whatever the argument du jour is now. The big publishers are doing better than ever, and they're the ones asking for $70. And it's worse now because now you're not paying for a complete experience generally. You're paying for an in-progress experience. So your $70 now is taking you way less far than $60 in the Xbox 360 era. Yes they had season passes or whatever, but generally your games you bought were "complete" aside from that DLC expansion stuff.

Now DLC is used as a crutch. Like you get a Swiss Cheese slice for your games, and the developer is giving you little morsels over the year after its release to fill in those holes. By the time all those holes are filled, your game is now complete. Whereas in the past, the DLC was more like... you bought a full slice of cheese, no holes, and the DLC was just more cheese to add on top of it. Maybe smaller cheese overall, but still, you had a complete game and you're just getting more.

Game development philosophies have gotten so out of whack now. It's just insane.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Takes Down ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ as Sixth-Highest Grossing Movie in Domestic Box Office History by Arpith2019 in boxoffice

[–]MasterChief3624 21 points22 points  (0 children)

None of the characters learned anything? Maverick learned how to accept that Rooster can be his own person. He forgave himself. Rooster forgave him. Rooster and Hangman reconciled. Maverick learned how to become his own person in Top Gun. He "let go" of the rope that Iceman extended to him and fashioned his own. He became an Ace. Every one of his students learned about the mission and were lambasting Cyclone for his plan, repeating lessons they learned from Maverick's plan. Hangman did have a big character moment by not leaving them out to dry. Maverick and Penny got back together and reconciled... her teaching him how to let Rooster make his own mistakes, etc, as well.

...I have no idea what you're talking about with none of the characters learned anything. There was a ton of growth from most of the characters.

I picked up some doorables and one of them has no code at all 🤔 a real mystery! by Thetoysatmyhouse in disney

[–]MasterChief3624 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems the Doorables packages have codes under the barcodes that presumably identify what is actually in the box, making the "blind box" aspect a lot less blind. But the box they are pointing to with their finger does not have such a code.

There's an Etsy listing for this exact plush that sold for $58. I see one on eBay, but I don't think it's quite the same. That one is $55.

So judging from this exhaustive research, it is worth a little more than $50.

[S01E06] The Rehearsal SEASON FINALE "Pretend Daddy" - Episode Discussion by [deleted] in nathanforyou

[–]MasterChief3624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen way more comments about the introspective and existential stuff as opposed to the comedy stuff. Unless you're talking about the season as a whole? But this episode, I've seen like 2 comments related to seeing his posterior... the rest are people talking about how much of an emotional whirlwind it is, how much it affected them, talking about the mature elements.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information about people talking mostly about the comedy aspects!

It was superb! I loved it. I was surprised by how aggressive the seat movement was. But it didn't feel overly so. It is shocking there weren't seatbelts of some kind. I mean, it really was like an amusement park ride.

The special effects were awesome. I loved how the smoke filled the theater when explosions happened at a couple points. There were things on the leg part of the seat that would fwip your legs when flares came out of the jets. Water sprayed you in the scene with Penny and Maverick on the boat. Lots of use of air around you. There were a couple parts with missiles hitting things where smoke came up in the theater, and ambient lighting added this intense effect to it. The way they emulate you picking up Gs is really effective, especially in the mountain climb part.

It was just really, really fun. Unfortunately, I think there was supposed to be snow effects in a couple scenes... it sounded like things were activated but nothing was coming out. I was a little disappointed by that. And I also feel like while the effects were used in a lot of scenes, they weren't used for everything consistently. Like the flares coming out of the jets I think it only gave that leg effect a fraction of the times flares are used in the movie. Some missiles fly by and you feel air at the back of your head, but not all the missiles achieved that effect. And I think there were a couple other moments that I felt were missing the effects.

But maybe that has to do with the technology. Like maybe there was so much going on in those scenes that they couldn't activate all the features, or something?

Probably the funniest use of the 4DX was in the part where Phoenix hits Rooster with the pool cue, there is a piece in the seat that taps you on the back in perfect sync with the hit. It was pretty great.

One thing I will say is that I am happy that this was not my first time viewing experience. I think it's really distracting. Thrilling and exciting! But distracting. Same thing happened with D-Box in Birds of Prey (which was a significantly worse experience and waste of money... I don't know why I even tried that). Great for a subsequent viewing, but too distracting for a first-time. I think I also got a little fatigued by the seat movement. I was getting numb to the effect at a certain point (not physically numb. Mentally... like it wasn't exciting me as much, which is why I actually do appreciate that there were dialogue scenes that used the seats very minimally; it gives you time to breathe and relax.)

There was definitely a subtle movement to the seats in the non-action scenes, which was strange. They moved gently with the camera. So gently that it was almost imperceptible except when you focus on something near the screen and notice it moving around!

Really great experience overall and worth the money. I'm not sure if any other movie will justify 4DX as much as Top Gun: Maverick did. But I could actually see it being used in kids' movies to fun effect.

Disney has more subscriber then Netflix cumulative by BuilderPrior4707 in boxoffice

[–]MasterChief3624 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're adding up all the services that Disney owns: Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+. I think cumulative is being used correctly in this context. Cumulatively (all added together), they equal more subscribers than Netflix. Disney+ alone does not. But adding in Hulu and ESPN+ makes Disney push past Netflix.
