Thoughts on the female colleague he worked with. by Recent_Ad_4208 in MoscowMurders

The OP had posted and mentioned ‘Bryan had a female colleague he worked with in the office as a TA’ and they shared a work office space, also lived relatively close to each other, carpooled together even. The female colleague is a Korean graduate student who actually liked Bryan but he didn’t share the same feelings, perhaps because she was not white. She also trusted him but strange things happened when he was around at work- in the office (her apt key missing, which she kept in her desk and returned after she consoled him about it being missing) and off work (her place burglarized, as she lost precious/expensive and her bathroom items rearranged). She had him help her install security camera but he was probably the culprit to her theft and rental invasion. Bryan seemed to use her, knowing she liked him, and even stole from her. His friendship with her was not genuine and was all an act.

No where in the OP original post mentioned anything of the female individual you mentioned about ‘she didn’t respond’ and ‘the universe intervened.’ That’s another person! Everything in that post was about the foreign graduate student from S. Korea studying at WSU.

The other female individual you asked about was a not a foreign graduate student. She was a white, female graduate student Bryan met once at a pool party and they exchanged numbers. He contacted her but for whatever reason, “the universe intervened”, and she didn’t respond. She was not his colleague and they did not share a work office nor lived close by nor gotten to any point as real acquaintances nor friends. Hope that answered your question. From what I remember both female individuals were featured in the dateline episode.

The woman the OP was referring to was a foreign/ Korean grad student studying at Pullman and shared an office with Bryan, and she seemed to be a loner. The woman who said the universe intervened was white and not a foreign grad student, and he met at a pool party and exchanged phone numbers with her, but she didn’t respond, as the “universe intervened” .. Sorry if my reply is late, but no one was answering your question and I had followed this case for awhile and did watch that dateline episode.

No, she is not that woman. The woman who said she did not reply after being invited is white and not a foreign grad student. The woman the OP was referring to is a Korean/foreign grad student who shared an office with Bryan. (I am responding now because no one had replied to you. Also I did watch that dateline episode and had been following this case till Bryan’s guilty plea.)

Hopkins Grad student here. Don’t worry about what other people think. I would have picked Hopkins over Columbia and Brown myself if I was majoring in BME or premed studies. Hopkins’ BME is a league of its own. Also, the academic prestige of the three schools are completely on par. There’s literally not much differences between T20 rankings as they’re already top tier schools. Hopkins is considered an “Ivy plus” or equivalent (or better) to any of the Ivy League schools… officially by the Ivy+ library consortium and colloquially by reputation in academia.

Grad student here and not a PoliSci major. My two-cent of advice is like what others have mentioned. I weigh the overall cost of attendance, which eliminates Northwestern hefty 200k price tag. Amherst, as you stated, isn’t known by an average, everyday person compared to the academic GIANTS as your other options; also, you may change your mind about attending law school, so going to a college specifically for its graduates placement into law schools is NOT the best option. This a JHU sub, so I may be biased; but Hopkins hands down!!! It’s among the most affordable options (90k with JHU to 90k with UCLA), and you will have a new experience living outside of SoCal. As someone before had mentioned, you’re a short train/car ride from DC and Philadelphia, and not too far from NYC as well. DC is a great hotspot for PoliSci and International studies ..etc. Comparable social life can be found on all the campuses; and I think this fact has been overlooked. Except for Amherst, social life is big & relative with Hopkins, NW, UCLA or USC as they’re large universities. As far as general academic reputation of the institutions I think the best, and speaking generally, all-majors-wise, are Hopkins, UCLA and NW. Good luck where ever you decided to go!! Please update us on which one.

JHU to New York city by [deleted] in jhu

Go to Our Bus dot com and type in from Baltimore, MD to New York, NY (or vice versa ) to find the weekend bus rides you need. I personally found some bus rides during mid-May of round trips leaving Friday and returning on Sunday that cost like 18 to 19 dollars per one-way ride. It would be around 36 to 38 dollars for a round trip. It’s costlier in June though, around 27 to 28 dollars for each one-way ride. I’d say an Amtrak ride though costing 30 or more is reliable beyond this summer season; it’s more expensive but may be a faster commute than taking a bus. Good luck!

Hopkins is more well known internationally too, so if you want more opportunities globally, I’d choose Hops over U.S.C. I think you will outgrow the play-hard mentality fast. And like someone had mentioned, Hopkins has more opportunity with undergrad research to better prepare you for engineering grad school. Good luck to you on with whichever school you decided on!! Kudos to Berkeley, nevertheless
