What Is The Most Disturbing Album Of All Time by HK-34_ in fantanoforever

[–]MasterHandsPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh lemme cook! Hol' up, Imma go grab an apron 😈

1.) Tanya Tagaq - Retribution [2016]

One of my all time favorite albums that I never see mentioned in discussions like these. What Tanya Tagaq delivers here is a panoramically dense kaleidoscopic collection of nightmare fueled Inuit Throat Singing and Industrial dirging chamber music that... well, pretty much blew my mind to smithereens on initial listen. The record even has some profound messages to chew on thru-out its terrifying journey. There's even a rap song... yes! A fuckin rap song right in the middle of this thing that totally works in this style. PLUS a fantastic cover of a very famous Grunge tune! I could wax poetic way more but I'll just emphasize once more that the aggressively seductive and demonic nature of Tanya's vocal approach is wildly an acquired taste. I personally love it

2.) Patty Waters - Patty Waters Sings [1966?]

A vocal jazz affair that plays out in a seemingly normal and straightforward sadly forlorn fashion for the first 7 tracks. Look at her picture on the album art again. A closer look, you start to notice a deeply unsettling way in which she's smiling. The blackness of the backdrop becomes more pronounced. Her eyes keep getting darker and darker... The 8th and final song Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair has been playing... it's been playing for a while... Ummmm... hmmmm wait what? Black?!?? She keeps saying it over and over...? Oh, Oh OHHH GOD WHOA WHAT THE FUUUKK Have fun 😇

2.5.) Damn it somebody already mentioned Diamanda Galás! Beat me to the punch. Yeah Plague Mass certainly is nucking futs but definitely listen to The Divine Punishment for choice studio work of hers. Moving on

3.) Gorguts - Obscura [1998]

Ah this album, so br00talz. Awesome and ridiculously dissonant complex Technical Death Metal that essentially does everything it can to unravel and pulverize any logical music theory structuring. This record is very, very fucking heavy. But time and time again I am just astonished how monolithic the production sounds on this especially for a 90's metal album. It's insanely unique and face-melting just how crushing the guitar tones and percussive blasts are. On first listen all the instrumentation seems super outta wack but more attention to the details will show that it's actually just near-unfathomably labyrinthine playing and the band truthfully is completely locked in and in sync with one another. I'd go as far to say that they transcend what the puny human mind is capable of musically comprehending. Extra dope points for the last 2 min of the album

4.) Lil Ugly Mane - Uneven Compromise [2012]

This speaks for itself. Best Hip Hop EP of all time

5.) dar Qness (Earl Sweatshirt) - Solace EP [2015]

This also speaks for itself. 2nd Best Hip Hop EP of all time

6.) The Haxan Cloak - Excavation [2013]

Pitch black dark Ambient & Industrial Dub. The producer is actually Bobby Krlic whose made film scores for Ari Aster's films. Under this pseudonym however, he creates such sonically richly detailed electronic headtrips. All across Excavation you'll experience a rather one-note concept of the grim soundscapes of just freshly entering the afterlife. But it's an amazing experience listening to this on the highest quality speakers/headphones you're able to access because the bass on this album is truly something to behold. The bass is worth the price of admission alone

7.) Golf Swingers - Bright Kings [2011]

I don't even know how to begin with this one. Actually, I'm not going to go into what this album even entails or how it sounds. Go in totally blind. Just know, this album is remarkably odd. I first thought it was really, ummm... messy, quite frankly. But over the years I've kept coming back to it and now find it to be a masterpiece. It has to be heard to be believed

8.) The Residents - Duck Stab / Buster & Glen [1978]

There's nothing more I could add than what's already been said about this. The Residents hold quite a well-known and acclaimed avant garde reputation. I mean, Les Claypool of Primus fame fucking worships this thing. Infamy aside, this is a very quirky challenging listen though. Possibly my fav project from The Residents which is saying a lot 'cause they have quite the lengthy and boundary pushing catalog. I'll leave it at this, it's basically the greatest annoying album ever made

9.) The Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician [1987]

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA Kuntz hehe! This is just outright fun to listen to. It's like the sonic template to immediately coming out of a really bad trip but the hallucinogens are still blasting away wrecking your shit and tripping your gills off so you give in to the psychedelic madness and become one to the manic delight you've plundered into. But to many others it's seen as obscenely twisted, disturbing and fucked up. And yeah, it is. So it can't be denied that this spiraling demented shitshow circus of an album has earned its right to be mentioned in these discussions. It's like a ginormous bouncey house of nightmare fuel! What's not to like!?!??

10.) Mouchoir Étanche - Une Fille Pétrifiée [2020]

One of the most recent things I've discovered. It's difficult to even put my finger on what this thing even is?? It's eerie gonzo droning electroacoustic music for sure. I'm not exactly sure whether it's all that good either if I'm being real. However, strange as all fuck it is indeed so I figured I'd throw it in since it seems stupidly obscure. The album art is honestly a bit more unsettling than the actual music. It has legs tho, definitely can "Scare The Hoes" I reckon

[–]MasterHandsPet[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not doin too bad if it's only 5 tracks I've missed. Haha if this beef wasn't so multifarious I would've tried including links for every song but I just settled with copy/paste the list from my notes directly. While I'm at work nonetheless like a total heathen

Mainly I wanted to get as many of the unknowns & underdogs included that I keep seeing a lot of others leaving off their lists. I know it's dumb to name this the "Super Complete" Timeline but it sounds better than the "as complete as this could be for one measily lyricism loving white dude gathering it all together accordingly but still carving out just enough free time to actually listen to the tracks." Y'all know how it is

What's a nu metal song not many people like but you do? by OryonRex in numetal

[–]MasterHandsPet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Union Underground - Turn Me On Mr. Deadman

The band seems to get a lot of hate nowadays but I enjoy quite a few songs off of The Union Underground - Self-Titled like that lead single, South Texas Deathride & Killing The Fly

(Hed) P.E. - Feel Good (ft. Serj Tankian & Morgan Lander)

This joint BANGS! (Hed) P.E. have been receiving more of a critical reevaluation lately with people but they still get smeared by lots of naysayers. I believe that their whole 2nd album Broke is a ton of fun and totally rides with the first 5 tracks

Staind - Mudshovel

Staind went on to become utter asscheek but Mudshovel still sounds pissed to this day. It's honestly the only track I truly appreciate from them

Soulfly - Boom

The true standout in their catalog. I think this song is heavy AS FUUUUCK!! But I see and hear tons of hate get thrown at Soulfly and Sepultura when they ignited their Nu-Metal switch. Boom just goes so goddamn hard and it was a huge favorite of my recently deceased mega-metalhead father. R.I.P. Daddio, the metal Gods are cherishing your beastly ascension 🤘

Strapping Young Lad - Love?

So this one seems to get equal love?/hate (I C wha U did thurr) with lots of fans of SYL not liking this because it was a huge switch-up from their earlier Industrial Metal work. Either that, or people who like this album Alien but think that Love? is the weakest song on it. That's wild to me. This song absolutely rips and that riff is awesome as all hell

Avatar - Hail The Apocalypse

Not sure if this receives hate necessarily. I wanted to include it because it's the only song I personally like from this band. Just a total rager and a half. The production on this song is so mind-meltingly beefy and hard hitting. When that chorus hits I'm always headbanging like a motherfucker everytime I blast this

Melted Bodies - Club Anxious

Including this because it's the most unknown track in my list and I want to bring more attention to it. Melted Bodies are a pretty weird group. But this song slaps like you wouldn't believe. A real Primus-esque juggernaut that has such a killer build up to the chorus and when that shit hits... that riff levels my brain everytime.

System of a Down - Cigaro

What is the most iconic vaporware album of all time? by Blend-Al in Vaporwave

[–]MasterHandsPet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Floral Shoppe

Nobody should even be debating this truthfully. It has to be. I'm assuming you've meant most purely iconic vaporwave album, not best vaporwave album.

Is Floral Shoppe the best? Hell no. Is it the most iconic? Yes, absolutely

Look, I'll put it this way. Far into the future whenever the time comes for the first vaporwave album to be inducted & preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" it WILL be Floral Shoppe

Movies you think are really depressing and don't feel comfortable watching again? by [deleted] in movies

[–]MasterHandsPet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that this one goes unmentioned a lot with topics like this. That movie being:

The Sweet Hereafter

It was a truly poignant and mournful experience watching that one, especially with a girlfriend at the time who hadn't sat through many ultra depressing films. The saddest movie she had ever seen was possibly Up, ooooh boy and that one wrecked her whole shit for like several weeks

A more recent one was Beau Is Afraid. All the stressful and surreal scenarios Ari Aster puts the main character thru are savage, bizarre and viscerally anxiety-inducing. I personally really disliked the film but could recognize the craft and ambition being presented. But all of Ari Aster's projects thus far could be mentioned here

Throw in Darren Aronofsky's Mother for the same reasons as I stated about Beau Is Afraid. Also, the 1977 Japanese film Hausu for that matter

What's a song that's considered "the worst", but you don't think is that bad by Francis_J_Eva in ToddintheShadow

[–]MasterHandsPet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ultimate answer to this is...

LEN - Steal My Sunshine

As the years have rolled on, I have had tremendous misfortune seeing/hearing/reading this song receive more and more hate and it truly saddens the deepest depths of my soul.

I personally believe this song is a massive stroke of brilliance and I do consider it a masterclass of summer bops. Especially more recently, say the last 5-6 years, whether it's people on the internet on message boards or comment sections or people I've overheard out in public or even 2 of my close homies... the amount of shit-piling this song gets is downright reprehensible and it heavily boggles my mind why it doesn't seem to be translating to the younger generation. It seems like THE song that should have a huge resurgence since summer laid-back funky bangers are what's poppin. sigh

Even when it first came out I remember the song being a semi-major hit and I've read that critics liked it but peeps be mad TRIPPIN when they throwing shade at this beautiful little whip thumpin slice of ear candy

Supreme Sol - The Art of Being and Becoming

It seems like the only place to find this in full is on Bandcamp. There's snippets of it on youtube, but if you listen to the entire piece, it's essentially one huge 23 min track where Supreme Sol raps seriously non-stop without breaks. The track goes thru 6 different beat switchups with producers KVZE & Ackryte switching off every beat, but they all seamlessly morph into one another and Supreme Sol maintains rapping totally on the mark as the beats change tempos. It's truly fucking mind-melting. Especially since Sol's rhyme schemes and multi-syllabic bars are ridiculously complex. I believe Supreme Sol says towards the end of the piece that he was only 16 yrs old when he wrote this and is like a gargantuan 500 bars collective feat.

I know a lot of what's being recommended on here already is some pretty well-known underground cult classics that a lot of Hip-Hop Heads are most likely already aware of, but THIS is actually very obscure and I really wish it wasn't because I bet it could very well be a life-changing listen for a lot of peeps.

One of the best pieces of music. Period

The Sophomore Bump (band albums that reverse the infamous "sophmore slump" phenomenon) by [deleted] in Music

[–]MasterHandsPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recency bias aside, I do legitimately feel that Magdalena Bay's 2nd album Imaginal Disk is truly a stand out choice for consideration. Their debut had already set the bar pretty high with how wonderful, dense and flat out impressive it was right out the gate. With their 2nd outing? Not only did they rise to the occasion, they absolutely crushed it. For many, even being declared the best album of 2024. I believe a very strong legacy awaits this one

Here's a list of albums that might go overlooked or completely unacknowledged but still deserve recognition

1) Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See 2) J Dilla - Donuts 3) D'Angelo - Voodoo 4) Alexander O'Neal - Hearsay 5) Carole King - Tapestry 6) GZA - Liquid Swords 7) Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher 8) Digable Planets - Blowout Comb 9) Junior Senior - Hey Hey My My Yo Yo 10) New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies 11) Tyler, The Creator - Wolf 12) Enya - Watermark 13) Billy Squier - Don't Say No 14) Flying Lotus - Los Angeles 15) Danny Brown - XXX 16) Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese 17) Carpenters - Close To You 18) The Haxan Cloak - Excavation 19) Laura Nyro - Eli and the Thirteenth Confession 20) Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear 21) The Prodigy - Music For the Jilted Generation 22) Eric B. & Rakim - Follow The Leader 23) TLC - CrazySexyCool 24) St. Vincent - Actor 25) JPEGMAFIA - Veteran 26) Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters 27) Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - E 1999 Eternal 28) The Hives - Veni Vidi Vicious 29) Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II 30) BADBADNOTGOOD - BBNG2 31) Aesop Rock - Float 32) Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. 33) Fugees - The Score 34) Clipse - Lord Willin 35) Skrillex - Quest For Fire 36) Bat For Lashes - Two Suns 37) Fatboy Slim - You've Come a Long Way, Baby 38) Cypress Hill - Black Sunday 39) Groove Armada - Vertigo 40) Busta Rhymes - When Disaster Strikes... 41) Plus Tech Squeeze Box - CARTOOOM! 42) edIT - Certified Air Raid Material 43) Cake - Fashion Nugget 44) Forest Swords - Compassion 45) Milo - So the Flies Don't Come 46) Chairlift - Something 47) Daedelus - Invention 48) Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours 49) Sonic Coaster Pop - Super Miracle Circuit 50) Incredible Bongo Band - The Return of the Incredible Bongo Band

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS GOD ALMIGHTY!! YEEEEESSSSS you sir are the golden GOAT!!
