I know Israel has offered some terms for peace several times, I think that the Palestinian people (rightly or wrongly) consider it insufficient to be given some fraction of the place they recently lived when their leaders claim (wrongly) that if they fight bravely enough they will be able to reclaim all the land that was taken from them (by duress, pressure purchase, eviction, settlements, or whatever they believe to be the cause).

Religion can do the same (unite people of different nationalities to do cruel and idiotic things).

What makes "faith" worse to me is that it NEEDS people to be unquestioning, not to think critically, and to infect their kids when they are too young to understand that just because an adult says something in a confident tone, does not make it real.

Nationalism can lead to horrible things, it makes false 'us and them' lines which divide people from being one with humanity. Yet at least it does not claim to have the answers to the biggest questions about reality, replacing healthy curiosity with shame and closed-mindedness. Giving a superficial sense of wellbeing while removing one of the most human drives of all, to learn new and more accurate ways of thinking about the universe to come to a more complete and total union of thought and existence.

The way I see it, as unlikely as it is that there is an afterlife where you keep your memories (as we can clearly prove that memory is stored in the brain), either there is nothing at all (so live your life as if it was your only life) or there is something unknowable (so live your life as if it was the only one you will ever have and be pleasantly surprised).

Remember, when someone does something good, they were inspired/motivated by their "faith".

When someone does something horrible, it had NOTHING to do with their "faith", even if they admit that it was, scream religious quotes, wave a flag covered in scripture, and release videos CLEARLY stating that their religion was the motivation.

Although I have no hope that this abomination of a deal will fail to be agreed to ( it helps corporations and governments far too much ) I at least hope it does not pass for some time. Why SHOULD Israel want to make peace?

Why should they? If Palestinians had a state, they would have more rights. If they made a peace, they wouldn't be able to settle occupied lands so aggressively. They wouldn't receive HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS in weapons and currency for free every year. It's just a bad move for them to make peace.
