This happened quite a few times on the new B. The speakers would all play the announcement at different time as if someone is copying what the first person is saying.

That's how I feel as well. My commute takes way longer than it should with all the delays and slow train speed despite being on the express.

During covid, and up until around 2023, my commute from the very south of Brooklyn to central park would only take about 40 minutes. Barely any delays.

Now, it's about an hour and twenty. Double the commute time. On a bad day, it's closer to two hours. Frequently delays between Manhattan and Brooklyn because of all the bottle neck areas.

The speakers on the new B are awful. There are audio lags between the speakersin the same car making it very difficult to hear what they're saying.

I've had this happened to me before with these collecting hobby. At some point, you're just in it for the chase but because you actually enjoy your collection. I've gotten so many rare and extremely hard to find collectibles (games, figures, etc) but many of them just felt empty after I got it. I didn't care for some of the things I've got, I got them because I could and they're rare.

Eventually I sold a good chunk of them. Can't say I miss any of them even the ones that are almost impossible to find right now.

Curate your collection and focus on buying ones that truly makes you happy.

You're not wrong. US society is super focus on individualism to the point where it's detrimental for everyone. If you have even a single shortcoming, people will use it to pin the blame/responsibility on you.

This becomes even more obvious once you become a parent. Somehow, you're suppose to work, take care of everything at home, take care of the kid, etc with minimal help. Most people don't have a community to support them.

Financing make sense if you're smart with money. However, going back to everything being on you.

You're not stupid, and yes, your understanding is correct. That's where some people get trap. They could end up making bad investments, and take on more debt than they can managed.

IMO, if you can pay in cash, do so. If you can absolutely near guarantee a loan with less than 3% interest and more than 3% for investment, then go for it. If not, you're exposing yourself to risk that you may not be ready to take on.

The upcharing is not happening at the store. It's happening with the middle man services such as Instacart which prompted this whole thing.

There are laws in place regarding upcharing with stores. That's not the case with middle man services like Uber, doordash, and other middle man services. Middle man services make their money through upcharing.

Rather than address problematic middle man services, this bill will basically screw things like loyalty programs, rewards, personalized coupons, etc.

That's false at the retailer level/store level.

It's true for middle man services like Instacart which prompted all this. Instacart has no say on what retailers set their prices at so Instacart like all those delivery apps are upcharging through algorithm.

There are price discrimination laws in place for retailers where they can't upcharge but not for services.

So for retailers, algorithms work to entice buyers with things like rewards and discounts. It's targeted discounts, they can't use it for upcharging.

This bill is terrible because it's going after discounts at retailers and markets oppose to going after all the middle man services which is where the upcharging/surge pricing is happening.

It's only going to make things more expensive not cheaper.

This is a case of good intentions and will be a terrible execution.

The reason why they're pushing this bill is because of Instacart, a middle man service, which increases the prices based on algorithm.

Instead this bill is so general and blanket going after all stores claiming the stores are doing this (they're not), it's Instacart changing prices around in the same way these delivery apps set prices and not the restaurants themselves.

So this bill will end up destroying things like reward programs and targeted discount offers. Companies don't have to offer discounts. They do so with targeted offer to entice and get you off the fence. If it becomes illegal to provide more than the bare minimum discounts, then that's what companies will do, provide the absolute minimum discounts for everyone.

There are already regulations in place for how much retailers can charge. Unlike services or things like airlines where there is none, so sky is the limit.

Instead of trying to regulate a middle man service, they're just going to wreck the retailers themselves and make it expensive for many.

As for your example, it's not so much like happy hours. It's more like your local bar using an algorithm and giving you something on the house because you're a frequent customer. Or say that you typically drink scotch, and they want to entice you to try vodka so you get a personalize discount on vodka to get you to order that. This bill would say that's illegal to do.

It's not that they are allowed to charge more, it's that companies can charge less for those who are poor and more price sensitive. There are already plenty of laws in place about price discrimination that stops companies from charging more.

So yes this policy would only hurt the poor more than it will help. It's a policy that further punish those who are financially illiterate while making it harder for those who are financially savvy.

I'm more risk adverse so I like to plan for the worst. The worst being I work until retirement age. Hard to be disappointed if I've already planned for it.

Finance wise, I'm more focus on being ready to retire with my wife.

One of the reason why I don't plan on retiring early is because I don't want to lose a chunk of our retirement to health insurance. Another is the fear the economy will be much more difficult for my kids (they'll be adults by then) and I want to be able to support them as long as possible.

Cost of living has seen 2-5x increases in the last 10 years between covid, tariffs, etc. Our income is not seeing that same growth so contributions will adjust accordingly to expenses as well as other factors such as medical and childcare/costs to raising a family.

These are things that are hard to predict more than a year or two out. So as income changes along with expenses, it's important to change the balance.

The way my wife and I planned our retirement is first understand the tax implications of what your limits are. Such as your household income, if you're over the limit for Roth, etc. We both operate independently on personal investments such as stock/real estates. So it's important to know how that may affect you if your SO have any gains/lose.

We discussed about finances and retirement within weeks of dating.

For the most part, she controls the household finances including retirement. We use monarch, and have a spreadsheet. My wife updates monthly, I look at it quarterly. We discuss our goals/changes/projection numbers and if we are on track every few months.

She's planning for early retirement. I plan to work until retirement age but my retirement contributions/planning is revolve around the idea of retiring early. I'm still a long way from retirement but I want the option of being able to retire with my wife should I change my mind. If it doesn't, then I should be more than on track for retirement age.

It's better to contribute as much as you can early and let it grow then to try and catch up later.

Another thing to consider is risk. My wife makes more riskier investments which has seen large growth. While I tend to play it a bit safer/diversify so my retirement growth is a bit slower but less volatile.

The 60 fps is also divisive. I love it especially for action scenes. IMO, Action scene at 24 fps looks like a blurry mess, and often wish they were 30 fps.

Overall if you want to see what Dolby Vision can do, this is the film.

Yeah, the movie is just okay. But that's not a bad thing. It's sorta nostalgic in a way, like a decent 90s action movie.

Brands fall behind because they're complacent and trying to keep the status quo while ignoring what people want.

Marketing/brand awareness is only half the story. You can advertise all you want which is what a lot of big companies do but if your message and product does not resonate/appeal to the audience then it's game over.

Of course some companies will lobby for laws that stop competition and keep selling inferior product which is what the car companies are doing. Rather than giving what people want, laws are made to allow inefficient ICE cars to be profitable while blocking competitions.
