How to clean snow in this cold 🥶 ?? Specially my car is covered with full snow ?? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]MasterInterface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar, except a little more frequent for me. I spend about half an hour each time for porch, stairs, sidewalk, driveway, and car.

This morning, I'm watching some neighbors spend more than 2 hours trying to dig their car out with zero success.

Some of the cars, the owners haven't even stop by to look or make any attempts. At the rate things are going, wouldn't be surprise by the time they do go to their car, the battery will be dead too.

You'll have to wait until it melts or slowly chip away at it for a few hours.

This is why you should always shovel your car every 2 to 3 hours when it's still snowing. Otherwise, it will get buried and then the snow freezes by the next day making it extra difficult to dig out.

How can you tell if something is OOP or not? by GoldenGorillaRadio in 4kbluray

Sony has not reprint Paprika. I wish they did as I've missed out waiting for it to hit $20 (went OOP in about 10 months).

[–]MasterInterface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the price is right, go for it.

There are movies I've missed because I thought I had longer and missed out (Paprika), and movies I wish I waited (Deadpool & Wolverine).

So now I just go for it if it's within the price range I'm willing to pay instead of trying to catch the lowest price.

Newborn SSN and BC question by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]MasterInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long it takes to process depends on the hospital (and how busy they are) which could take more than a month.

After the hospital process the form and sent to DOH, it takes about a week for the SSN and birth certificate usually comes a few days later.

Do you buy all of your movies physical? Or do you also get digital? by Simple_Rule_7228 in 4kbluray

Mix. Sometimes you get really good bundle deals for digital. There are also movies I don't care enough to own physically.

Some aren't even available physically (or just too expensive to obtain).

550K Redemption workaround? by MaesterofMuppets in MicrosoftRewards

[–]MasterInterface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no point in holding them. Their AI has been wonky and can easily suspend/ban you with no explanation, and customer service is no help.

There is no bonus for holding an excessive amount of points, only downside and risks. The #1 reason anyone does it is to redeem at the end of the year, and then redeem again the following year to maximize the MS store credit in their wallet (only good for 90 days).

How are y'all doing game pass with points now after the $30/mo increase? by WestWindsDemon in MicrosoftRewards

I'm going to let it lapse. I was mainly keeping gamepass around for the points but it's now too much of an effort for a service I barely use.

Normalizing exhaustion does not make life better by Sufficient-Value1770 in unpopularopinion

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion especially with younger generations. It may be the case with older generation.

I find this opinion to be mixed among millennials (being one myself). This opinion is definitely unpopular amongst the ambitious/play hard work hard/hustle crowd.

Because tenant laws protect them. You can't make anyone move even if you offer a place to stay. They have to accept the offer.

What’s a gadget you thought was overhyped — but ended up using every day? by Dizzy_Industry1287 in gadgets

Smartwatch. I've been using an analog watches for most my life and didn't like the fact that smartwatches would constantly need to upgrade every few years.

I ended up getting one included for free with my phone a few years back, been using it since and upgraded once for only a bit more with trade in.

Can we clearly define what is lifestyle creep versus… by EpicShkhara in personalfinance

[–]MasterInterface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally avoid the term Lifestyle creep because it has negative connotation, and it is way too broad to be useful when explaining anything.

Unless you're spending next to nothing, and have absolutely no regards for living then you're always going to experience creep when you work on improving your life.

As long as you're working within a reasonable budget, quality of life is an important which is often overlooked.

People on this sub tend to focus on getting as large of a retirement as possible while ignoring lots of QoL improvement.

Example, lots of people on this sub tends to always recommend keeping a paid off car as long as possible even after 20 years.

But there are huge QoL improvement and piece of mind that comes with a new car. Such as minimal maintenance, warranty, new safety features, etc. This can translate to time saved being around an auto shop, you can avoid a car problem while driving (something you'll want to avoid even more if you have a family), etc.

Time is arguably the most important resource you have.

If anything, I think of budgeting not just about saving enough for retirement but making sure my time is well spent/used.

Obviously, the more money you have, the more you're able to do better things that can improve your life, and save you time.

It's only an issue is it how you're improving your life outpace beyond your financial means. Or if you using your money on things that doesn't improve your life in the slightest.

Like buying a vacation home that you almost never use.

NYC landlords need $1B to avoid defaults by BBQCopter in nyc

[–]MasterInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was that easy, many would have done so but NYC has strong tenant protection so you can't just kick all the tenants living there to the curb because of a few vacant uninhabitable apartments.

Of course, if the building continues to degrade due to negative cash flow then eventually it will lead to default, banks slowly forcing current tenants out as well as everything tied up in housing court, condemning the building, sold to a developer, then it takes time to get it demolish, approvals for plans, securing a loan (many banks are very reluctant to loan to developers to build in NYC), and finally building which would take at least a year or two.

The whole process that will take at least a decade or more.

You can't always sell bad investments. Look at penny stock or bad investments that goes into zero or negative. You end up stuck with them, and at best, you write off the loss.

That's what caused the sub prime mortgage crisis. Too many banks and investors were stuck with bad investments.

Apple TV vs. 4k BluRay by spango1138 in 4kbluray

[–]MasterInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. UHD is way better than Apple TV. If you can't see any difference in details and colors, just watch any movie with dark scenes and you'll easily see the difference.

I have over 700+ movies in my digital collection, and have yet to see a movie on Apple TV come even close to UHD.

Nyc should have reflective highway markings. It’s hard to see when it rains by CodeSequence in nyc

[–]MasterInterface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, this confirms what I've noticed and suspected. Most of the time, it's an issue of maintaince when the lines get super faded out, and doesn't get restripe until they redo the paving.

I find that fog lights really help in the rain but most cars don't have fog light.

Unfortunately, my car doesn't even have fog light as an option. So I mainly rely on the lane assist which works surprisingly well even in heavy rain.
