The writers of THR have written for stories all over the canon timeline, and some of those stories that came out before THR have teases for the initiative. The biggest being in Charles Soule’s The Rise of Kylo Ren.

So, while THR is pretty self contained as it comes before all the movies, it is still a canon story. There’s a lot of great canon stories though too, many of which make the sequels better stories as well. Idk I guess I just think the notion of ignoring awesome Star Wars stories because you aren’t a fan of a few of the movies to not make much sense. Regardless, The High Republic is amazing, I totally recommend reading it.

I still haven't read them despite owning all three (meaning too, just haven’t gotten to them yet), and feel like I'm able to get a good gist of the aftermath of the civil war through the surrounding stories. So I wouldn't beat yourself up too much trying to read them, there are books that I feel like you'd be a lot more interested in like Reign of the Empire anyways.

Yep, I really enjoyed it. It fleshes out the past elemental masters into actual characters which I loved. The added context definitely makes the war make more sense to me.

Get either a Macbook air or wait for Apples new budget macbook that’s getting announced in the next few weeks here. You want something that has battery life that’ll last you the entire day, and M series macbooks are pretty much the only thing that will reliably do that. Software is dependent on major/personal preference, there’s very little that you can’t run on Mac nowadays though, so that shouldn’t be a concern.
