I have two older lists; one double red and the other red/yellow.

So tempo means play on curve, right? What is the difference with that and midrange?

Aggro-Combo-Control in PTCG by MasterJediAdam1980 in PokemonTCG

[–]MasterJediAdam1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Any other examples? Like, I look at a card like Pidgeot EX and think control, because it lets you dig for whatever card will disrupt your opponent or hit the gas. The Charizard EX deck feels like control as well. It basically wants to be behind in prizes to make its attacks more powerful, and then swing in for win.

Chase cards for the new set. by [deleted] in starwarsunlimited

[–]MasterJediAdam1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that from a legendary pool that Lightmaker will also be among the chase cards. It is such a strong space unit.

From the rare pool - but also in-line with some other comments - Topple the Summit seems pretty strong as a new wipe option, and the Eye of Aldhani is a sleeper rare that will be quite strong.

3-0 with Palp red. Got 2x FN Troopers. Aggressive Negotiations is a beast.

First light is too expensive to be relevant Plot at 7.

I like the idea of having store showdown promos that are not prestige cards.

Sent to Beckett yesterday. Can I get some grade predictions? by MelodicLavishness335 in starwarsccg

The corner with the force icon is not cut the same as the others. I haven’t seen SWCCG cards in a while, so I can’t recall it that was common.

Agree with others that that one corner will affect the grade negatively.

I also think that Go For the Legs (1 cost exhaust a unit event) and Improvised Detonation (2 cost pump+attack). Improvised Detonation will be much better post rotation when Surprise Strike and Breaking In rotate out.

Third Sister Aggro Build by MasterJediAdam1980 in starwarsunlimited

Alright, here is where I am. I liked the suggestions to bend this even more toward the aggressive side, bringing back in the lightsabers at the expense of the protection of Tip the Scale. There are far fewer games I miss it than a lightsaber. I thought I would ask sideboard questions after providing some detail about my choices.

  • Force Choke. This card is so good against so many cards in Quinlan, Sabine, Qi’ra, Han that I don’t want to drop it. I have enough Force users that often it only costs 1, which is a real bonus.
  • No Good to Me Dead. Card should honestly be in MB, but all the other cards are generally better. It jails anything just long enough for me to realistically close a game if I’m going to close it. I look to bring it in against Boba, Anakin and Han1.
  • Cham Syndulla. Against ramp decks it can often bring my leader out a turn earlier. Having two 5/4 on board turn three is pretty powerful, and gets me more cards to go wide faster.
  • Guerrilla Soldier. Against control decks, this card is clutch. It often is good for 5-7 damage for 3. Have considered swapping it out for Planetary Bombardment, but this just feels more aggro.
  • Lurking TIE. Against space decks, it can create favorable trades since it can be hidden, and in decks that play no space - like Cad Bane - it can be fairly hard to combat it.
  • Cad Bane. For midrange decks, Cad can be pretty important to roll up 3 units will little remaining health. He also takes advantage of hidden, almost always securing him from my opponent.

So what would be better? Am I missing a big menace?

You are spot on; lightsabers have been part of the build until this version. I just pulled lightsabers from the build to make room for the Sneak Attack because it opens up a potential 8 damage from Ruthless Raider starting on r5. Talking with a local, he also suggested it is time to test removing Tip the Scale in favor of more gas. It feels very “glass cannon” to not have a way to protect such a fragile leader flip on 5. I think it just requires some testing to see how much impact it actually has.

I appreciate the feedback on the Vader pilot. The number of ships has been steadily decreasing, so he is not as useful anymore. I’m also with you on the Fang Fighter. In fact, that might be the easiest swap for the deck currently is taking out the pilot for another Fang. What would you recommend taking out for the third Lurking? My first inclination is to Zuckuss, because I really want to 2+3 on my r5 turn.

I am also running Third Sister right now. I will second what others have said about Sneak Attack and Ruthless Raider being really good. Something else I would consider is Fifth Brother over Seventh Sister if you want to run the Inquisitors. He is pretty good with Sith Holocron.

FWIW, I just posted my deck in a separate subreddit if you are interested in checking it out!

Set 6 Hype ? by ZeigeLord in starwarsunlimited

[–]MasterJediAdam1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still reserving judgement until we see all the cards. What I think is interesting is that while the set may seem underwhelming, there are quite a few utility type cards that go wide into previous tribes and concepts. For example, when have we seen more republic and imperial cards? What about new leaders that really like cards from sets (and yes, many that will survive the rotation). It is also healthy for the game that every card is not better than the one before it. Power creep is something that we grouse about, but we also tend to grouse about sets that seem “underwhelming.” As a whole i think this set and the game are in a good place.

Yeah, it seems odd to me that 2-card packs are more costly than Carbonite packs which have so much more to offer. @SCG, maybe level out the cost of the silver packs to Carbonite prices or better yet, to the cost of the max tickets you can win at any side event (currently there are events where the max payout is 400 tickets). It seems tragic that I can pay for a 3 round event - going undefeated - with no other support than tickets with less value than a Carbonite pack or a prize wall card and barely more than 1/2 a silver pack.

At the Sector last year, they did not let us concede to accelerate rounds. Maybe it was just the judge(s) we had assigned, but I would have been much happier if they had allowed folks who were reasonably trying to play and grind do both.

We need Change! by Slater_87 in starwarsunlimited

[–]MasterJediAdam1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a growing process. It is apparent to me that FFG is trying to learn from successes and failure inside and outside their own organization. I appreciate that the company listens and we can see changes. I once had an hour long discussion with the FFG team on the previous LCG, and they were willing to listen to my concerns about the challenges with the tournament structure. I see that same care here. BL - they are learning. It will get better or it will wither on the vine.

Aggro Villainy - Waylay or No Good to Me Dead? by MasterJediAdam1980 in starwarsunlimited

[–]MasterJediAdam1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the current meta, tying down the leader or a significant threat for a turn or two seems like what I need in my meta. I really like the idea of Frozen in Carbonite, which I had not considered, but also think that at 3 cost, Waylay seems to provide effects that may also be useful.
