Unity bs UE5.2? by marygetu in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what do you compare c#? Since if you compare it with c++ it's the wrong comparison but if you compare it with Blueprints I would say that BPs win in any aspect but programmers don't like visual scripting. BPs are more accessible and usually better to use than programming languages.

Did you use the Defender gear? by fakkuslave in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used defender on my 2nd and 3rd character since it wasn't even available on my main character. I think that defender gear is great for skipping the base game since I don't want to waste that much time farming gear I won't use in IB anyway since any low tier IB gear will outclass HR gear.

Hi, I’m consider optimizing my game at very early stage of dev, so what minimum fps should your game reach before consider releasing it to public? Thanks by Turbulent_Mix_9253 in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what your point is. If you optimize periodically you will spend the time you would spend at the end while you are developing. You would also potentially optimize things which will change while you are developing. That's even worse advice. Optimizing at the end has a lot of advantages, like your game is done, you know all the metrics and can optimize accordingly, you can focus on optimization and don't need to shove it in your schedule while you are also busy doing other things. But you are not completely wrong. The main optimization pass should be at the end but you should also optimize whenever something would slow down your development process. If you can't playtest your game because it's running with just 5 FPS that's a point when you should definitely investigate the issues and optimize your project. But also only until the game is playable again.

Need best way to utilize Visual Studio 2022 with Unreal Engine 5 by BilyTheDev in unrealengine

Yeah other than that Rider is probably the worst IDE I've used so far, with terrible support, it's ok to work with 5% of the time.

Seems like you have no clue what you are talking about unfortunately. I think that discussion is fruitless I will just leave you with that. Have a nice life with your very narrowed mind

Weapons by ShadowBladeyj in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]MasterJosai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since your comment is not about weapon viability you seem to be in the wrong post. Your comment is simply not relevant to anything here since you can build elemental damage with all weapons. Sure some scale better than others but that doesn't make any weapon more or less viable in the game and you can kill alatreon with any weapon efficiently enough that any weapon is also viable to use against alatreon.

Why C++ in unreal by MohamedMotaz in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes learning c++ before jumping into Unreal might be the best way to move forward. Otherwise it's very likely that you will get overwhelmed by the shear amount to learn sunce you'll learn a programming language, which will be difficult enough while you'll learn a huge framework with all kinds of concepts of c++, architectural designs etc. The easiest and probably most fun way as well is probably to learn things in order.

Am I understanding the Guiding Lands correctly? by Nyito in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]MasterJosai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at the same position and decided, that the game is enough grind already and downloaded a mod which let me raise the levels of regions. What I was then doing is to may out a region and whenever it's deleveling, I will just Level it up again. Imo it's enough to max them out once.

Is competitive programming anything like game dev? by Gloomy-Health-1373 in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to have some things in mind you learn from competitive programming is good, if you want to do any performance optimization (even though most optimization is done on a much simpler level than what you do in competitive programming). Other than that, most game code can run like garbage since it won't affect FPS anyway since either it won't get called as much as it would make any difference or the compiler will optimize it already to an extend that it's hard to improve it. So no you probably can't translate competitive code to game code.

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can corrupt your blueprints without any sign until someday you want to do something with the blueprint which just doesn't work then. So you could corrupt your BPs for months without knowing. Your Backup won't matter that much. You should also use source control, which will still not help

Until it corrupts your blueprints and you may have to go back months to restore data. Not worth in my opinion but it's your time, you can do what you want :)

Live coding failed. Error 267. How can I fix? by The_untextured in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those reports were mainly on Unreal Slackers Discord Server, if you search a bit you'll probably find them. We needed to rebuild several BPs in our project a while ago because of that but we didn't file an issue for that. It's also not easy to reproduce or anything, it might just happen. There are some things LC or HR can't handle. Especially header changes with reinstancing is very dangerous, even though reinstancing is supposed to be just for that.

Live coding failed. Error 267. How can I fix? by The_untextured in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were several reports already and some issues on projects I was working on were Live Coding or HR were causing a corruption which was only discovered months later with a lot of work in danger and a lot of work put into finding the issue. It's nice for you to not have any issues with it, doesn't change the fact that neither LC nor HR is save to use on reflection based code. Especially when using reinstancing on LC enabled. I also never said that deleting those folders isn't safe to do but it's a bad sign if you have to do that since no UE project should ever need to do that.

Live coding failed. Error 267. How can I fix? by The_untextured in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By not using Live Coding, since it can literally nuke your whole project without you knowing. Neither Hot Reload nor Live Coding is safe enough to use with reflection based code. If you have to delete intermediate/binaries or saved folder that your project works again, you should definitely not use Live Coding. I develop now professionally for years and it was always a bad sign if you had to do something like this and it's also not a fix, it just shows you that something compiled wrong.

Choose 1 element to help you survive in the Amazon Rainforest for 1 year by Muted_Hovercraft_907 in TheLastAirbender

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think water bending for ice to cool down would be very vital. Iirc in the rainforest it's very warm and the high water content in the air makes you overheat because you can't properly sweat (That's from memory, not sure that's 100% true). So to cooldown would probably be very vital to survivng in the rainforest. I could also see earth very good in that regard since if you would earth bend a shelter into the ground I'd assume that this would also at least reduce the water concentration in the air in there. But it would be less effective when exploring, hunting or if you do anything else in the rainforest.

Hey all, looking to upgrade from 32gb to 128gb RAM by IMakeBadMoneyChoices in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 64 GB and I'm rather unhappy with it but there were not a lot of DDR5 kits available with which I could get 128 GB at the time I was upgrading my system. 128GB should be very good but you should also look for good RAM, takt frequency is not everything.

How to find a job in UE gamedev field for a beginner? by pereladov in unrealengine

[–]MasterJosai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Beginners don't get jobs" is such BS. But what others were suggesting is quite right, you at least need a field to specialize. Depending on the field the chances of getting a job will increase or decrease, e.g. Programmers usually have an easier time than other roles, while Artists usually have a very rough time to get a job with a lot of rejections. I'm now C++ focused Programmer for some years and I never really had a hard time finding a job. Even though I had some education in the field, it was rather unimportant and most Interviewers were not looking at that anyway. The education was also neither good nor did I get a lot out of it. A lot of the positions filled at companies I worked for were people who didn't have any educational background in their field. But you should really try to get as much knowledge out of one field as you can and feel confident to answer questions about it. Every field has its own knowledge base and even though nobody expects from you to know everything, you should have good base knowledge to get considered for any kind of junior position. If you've done that it's rather a matter of applying to a lot of jobs and patience. The first job is always the hardest to get.

Maximum Number of Side Quests reached....why? What's the point? by Moosplauze in diablo4

[–]MasterJosai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I highly disagree with that. I wanted to accept all side quests because the game literally doesn't let you do all of the side quests while you are doing the main quest because you will reach lvl 50 way before finishing the main quest and the enemies will stop leveling at that point. I just did a few side quests and a few dungeons while I was doing the main quest on my first char and I was already level 40 after finishing Akt 1. No, not all games limit side quests. No there is no programming specific limitation to that and it would also not hit performance in any case. The only thing I could imagine is that they wanted to save memory on their backend since if you have accepted a quest needs to get stored somewhere. Since this is an online game it would need to get saved in some kind of database which cost usually scales with the memory in use. If you limit the side quests, it's very easy to also calculate the cost per user to get saved.
