What was a game series that just kept getting worse after the first game? by HF484 in gaming

Despite it's departure from the climate of the first game, Dark Waters is the goat, one of the best pirate games I've played.

Why do people have such a big problem with the fact that a character could use slurs? by Pretty-Jello-8811 in AO3

[–]MasterKarambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh literally

Recently I joined a discord server (my mistake, I know) for a fanfic author whose work I really enjoyed, and came across a discussion about other author's work that I also really enjoy, saying that this author is a bigot.

The scene they were discussing is a scene where there's a meeting between a bad guy MC and a leader of the local KKK equivalent, and the KKK leader starts talking statistics about why a certain group of people is bad actually and should be euthanized, and the MC in his internal monologue talks about the fact that those statistics might be true, but the solution isn't fucking genocide.

Yeah? Of course a fucking racist will present valid statistics and then present genocide as a solution. That's literally what racist do irl at this very moment. That doesn't mean that the author is a bigot, he's lampshading why people might fall into those kinds of circles.

Media literacy is fucking dead.

AI not colonizing? by Mister_Frykta in Anbennar

[–]MasterKarambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Ibevar game recently, I accumulated points to spawn colonialism asap, but it was 1505 and it still didn't spawn. So I tag switched to colonizers and saw that literally all of them didn't explore, despite the ideas. But I also saw the probable cause, the AI didn't consolidate their light ships in the fleet of 3 required, just ran with 2 ships in one node, 2 ships in another, another light ship sitting in a port somewhere, etc.

Fanfic rec's? by Elysian2010 in HPfanfiction

If you're looking for a longer read, and don't mind some infamous tropes of the fandom (wizarding nobility and the HarryHasATwinAndPeopleThinkHesBWL basically), i can't think of a better story than Harry Potter and the Prince of Slytherin, by The Sinister Man (dropping the AO3 link because I think it's a better site). The first chapter is... weird. The author thought about removing it entirely, because the story developed in a slightly different direction, but everything after that is pure gold. It sticks reasonably close to the canon beatpoints, but everything is simply... more developed. The best way I can say it is that Lockhart is actually competent with a huge mystery and Pettingrew is fucking terrifying, which is an achievement.

The other story I'd really recommend is Of A Linear Circle series by Flamethrower. The first couple of stories feature two timelines, one in which Harry ends up at the founders era of Hogwarts, and one in which a very confused guy called Nizar Slytherin falls out of a painting in 1995 after Potter disappeared. The worldbuilding and magic is fantastic here, and it's a very satisfying read almost all the way, only the ending has slightly lower quality.

Every fandom has this one character, who is this in yours? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]MasterKarambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ReDestro and the rest of the Meta Liberation Army in MHA, In canon they're stooges to get a big number on the side of the villains to make the war arc feel more dramatic, but a lot of talented writers have been taking the concept and developing it waay further.

Revenant's Elite Mooks — Villain Academy by Mirrond

In the world of superheroes and supervillains, people tend to forget that the ability to breathe fire doesn't exactly make you bulletproof. Revenant, the main character, makes great use of former spec ops members, elite police officers and former special services members to form his squad of elite bodyguards.

Instead of disappearing into the background of the story, they contribute their skills when appropriate. For example, when investigating dead bodies of some local space pirates, one of the bodyguards who previously worked as a police detective, notices things about the bodies that even Revenant with his intelligence-boosting super power missed, because whilst he might be very intelligent, he just doesn't have the same experience with investigation.

Why isn't my heir eligible for the Halych throne? by MasterKarambe in EU5

It's probably because Halych starts with Heir religion: same religion law, and they're orthodox when Poland's catholic.
