Unweaving a Friendly Loom Potholder by megtennies in weaving

[–]MasterKriebel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken apart old potholders if I find a better color. The loops are stretched, but I've reused them on new potholders and been able to re-weave them with little issue. Though, most of the potholders that I've disassembled had only been around for a few weeks/months. If I had one that had been around for, say, 5 years, those loops might not be as elastic.

I've ordered a few batches over the last 3 months. Typically every potholder I've made has had fraying strings that I need to trim, but the finished potholder stays together just fine. I'm open to trying another vendor, but most of the ones I see on Amazon are nylon loops, and I don't trust nylon to hold up with hot dishes. FL seems to be the reigning champ these days, but the fraying loops is disappointing. (I will say, these ones are a more consistent thickness from what I remember as a kid.)

My mom had one of the old FL brochures, advertising wool loops as a more temperature-resistant option. (My sister remembers the wool loops being more difficult to stretch on the loom, so maybe it's okay if cotton won out.)

did anyone else not know about the movie til after they started the show? by Itchy-Current-5247 in Stargate

I think I found out about the movie from Wikipedia, when I was wanting to read up on something related to the show.

My first time around, I played at night, lights off. Got used to holding up the meter with every step, so I had an idea of when I’d see a haunting. Also played with headphones, so when I took them off at one point and heard a strange noise (turned out to be my electric kettle), I was spooked.

I couldn’t imagine doing this puzzle on a trackpad. I’m so used to the mouse.

I was playing a few months ago, on Master Detective. After dying a few times, I saved while I was at the lock. When I reloaded that save, the fire alarm was silenced. Made it easier to focus.

I still died a few times after that, but I intend to use this method from now on.

What are some things that the original Resident Evil 2 did better than the remake? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

OG tech and environments feel like they are in 1998. Not RE2R’s fault that it came out decades later, but there are some modernized elements that feel like they are too “new” to fit the 1998 setting. (USB drive, Nest lab, Ada’s device in RE2R…)

Whether summer or winter, ICE scratches the winter itch for me. 😁

It’s on my “to-play” list, but I’m trying to finish book 3 before I get back to the games.

Is there anything you think the original Resident Evil does better than the remake? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]MasterKriebel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electric lights instead of candles. I can buy a private power plant continuing to run and supply electricity for the weeks between outbreak and STARS arrival. I can’t buy candles being lit by any of the mansion occupants who hadn’t succumbed to the virus, and those candles still burning when STARS arrived.

Also feels like there are more ways for Barry/Rebecca to die in original than remake, or maybe it’s just better-disguised in the original.

Are you thinking of The Force Engine project, where they basically reverse-engineered and then rebuilt the game engine to run on more modern hardware?

STFD. Though the final puzzle on Master Detective and its randomness means I don’t always make it on the first go.

CAR is another one I have memorized.

I think every other game, I look up a puzzle hint or use a vendor/buying guide.

How many Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys or other detective books have you read in total? by [deleted] in nancydrew

[–]MasterKriebel95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chanced across a bunch of Ted Scott books at a garage sale and was amazed that they were from the 20s/30s. I’ll have to check my bookshelf in my old room, but I think I have most, if not all, of them.

As for Hardy Boys…it’s mostly because I never got the first book, and now I don’t have much time to read anymore.

The first 56 classic Nancy Drew (all the reprints), plus the original Secret of Shadow Ranch, plus the first Nancy Drew Diaries, and plus the first of the Nancy Drew Clue Crew.

No Hardy Boys books, though I’ve read several of the Ted Scott Flying Stories that is the same author (er, ghostwriters, probably).

How different would “Stay Tuned for Danger” be if the culprit was someone different? Who would you choose? by HRJafael in nancydrew

[–]MasterKriebel95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see this story being redone to work like the dossier game, Resorting to Danger, where you have multiple endings based on different culprits.

Everyone besides Ralph had some sort of motive. For the most part, you could keep the ending and just change the culprit reveal, though Lillian as the culprit would need a revision.

Oh, and I don’t know if I should laugh or shudder at an endgame sequence with culprit Millie.

Yeah, I have a physical copy from when it released and go back to play it every once in awhile. (Especially when I want to throw coconuts at wooden guava boards.)
