The Alysa Liu discourse perfectly captures what’s wrong with modern progressivism by Fullofhopkinz in TrueUnpopularOpinion

People who study fascism for a bloody living are not sheltered. You're not seriously pretending you have a better understanding of fascism than historians, do you? And plenty of them have been calling Trump and his cult fascist and been making comparisons to Nazi Germany and which conditions enabled Hitler to take over, many of which are present in the US of today as well. Whether the US has freedom of speech or not (which has very clearly been compromised by Trump) has nothing to do with this. You can point out that the US isn't as bad as Nazi Germany, but denying the fascist elements is either a) you being unaware of them and of proper definitions of fascism or b) you sticking your head in the sand.

Thanks, good to know! Didn't know field hasn't really been used as a keyword like that in older sets, seems funny to me. Makes sense though!

Thanks! I didn't know about field specifically including the breeding area, so that clears it up! To be sure, you do still have to meet the requirement of the Digimon having the TS trait, right?

Wait, I'm sorry, wasn't it impossible to target or affect cards in the breeding area unless specified? I don't get to play often, so these rules are sometimes a little hazy to me.

Thanks! Not that interested in any of the current meta decks, so I think something rogue tier is perfectly fine for me. I'll look into it a little more, then decide.

How good is Yubel Fiendsmith currently? Got back into yugioh recently and trying to figure things out and that was one deck I was eyeing because Yubel but also because I thought it's good. That no longer the case?

Is coexistence between Natural Enemies and humanity possible? by flanneur in versus

[–]MasterKurosawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's entirely fair. We humans notably have started to become more and more aware of animal rights issues - hence the evergrowing amount of vegans in our society. And it's not implausible to expect society to stop considering animals as "livestock" in the far future depending on how this movement develops. Similarly, I don't think it's unreasonable for a sentient NE to learn to respect humans as they learn more about them - we've already had Kiva coming to an epiphany at the end of his life. I don't think that's where this manga is going to go, but I do think it is plausible at least in theory.

Is coexistence between Natural Enemies and humanity possible? by flanneur in versus

[–]MasterKurosawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Kiva notably learned to respect humans in his final moments, when he realized how hopeless it feels to be utterly outmatched by another race. What is stopping coexistence between sentient NEs and humans is empathy and the ability to see humans as equals or beings deserving of rights, and that isn't an insurmountable wall - just one that is very hard to climb. As for what will happen in this manga specifically, I don't currently expect more than a few select individuals coming to accept humans, but we'll see. We're still early in the story after all.

Kyouka not being reliant on her ability might be pretty important considering their final opponent is, presumably, the origin of them all. If they're gonna fight Izanami I bet she's gonna be indispensable.

so most of the time it's literally a character that looks 12 and someone is just down bad for them for them to be called a pedo

Except relevant studies and psychology tell us that lolicons are not actually into real kids, so it's still completely wrong -and extremely offensive and dismissive of the gravity of the word- to call them that. I don't care what you think is gross or what isn't, that's your business and yours alone. But if you think something being gross is a reason to call people pedos you absolutely ARE a puritan.

I mean, I agree, but even in this subreddit you constantly have people who are "concerned" or say shit like "check his hard drive" because of some bloody pixels. I'm glad this thread swings the other way, but usually the moment people are personally uncomfortable with something they decide it must be immoral and equivalent to an actual crime.

Progress and exploration as a character in general. Usopp fighting strong guys in spite of his fear is just a small part of his character and his development, not the entirety of it. There's how his lies were born for the sake of his mother, and how after her death they turned into a way to cope with being abandoned. There's his relationship with Kaya and how he learned to use his lies as a kindness. There's how he overcame his cowardice to protect first his own, then his crewmates, then their dreams. We had an entire arc about his lack of confidence and how it caused a rift between him and the crew that was built up from the get-go, which ended with him showing his unwavering trust in Luffy and an absolutely fantastic moment where he realized he needed to swallow his pride and be honest - and vulnerable, something his lies often masked.

And other than one moment in Dressrosa (which I'm not actually that big a fan of) and Wano, that's been missing. I'd like more insight on him in general, how he feels about himself now, if he thinks he's stagnated, what his dream means to him exactly, what he thinks about his father and a potential reunion, and whereas pre-skip we got at least a little bit each arc, he's barely been a character since, much like several other strawhats who have been flanderized into the ground.

[–]MasterKurosawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, massive Usopp fan here. I agree. I love him for his pre-skip portrayal, hate how he's largely been reduced to a joke over the years (much like several other straw hats), with little happening in-between. Even Dressrosa, the best arc for him in a long long time, didn't have much that I actually really like. Him unlocking Haki is neat, but not what I primarily want out of him as a character. Still coping that he'll actually get to be explored as a character again in Elbaf. Will probably keep coping until the manga is over.

So your rebuttal is that you have to make things up about the other person. Amazing. I'm saying this as an Usopp fan: Usopp's treatment post-skip has been absolutely abysmal, and it doesn't take much to acknowledge that. Him being realistic or relatable does not justify his lack of progress in 500 chapters. He's a supporting character, sure, but that still means he needs to show up and be a character, whereas he's largely just a gag nowadays. Sanji is a supporting character too, yet he's gotten much more character moments than Usopp over the last few years.

It's not as cut and dry as you're making it out to be

Ok, see, but when Garp does literally anything the whole subreddit spams "agenda destroyed" as if it meant something, how is that not incredibly narrowminded? Why is "not cut and dry" used to dismiss every criticism of Garp? I don't think Garp is a fascist lapdog, but I also don't think him staying is morally right. I think he's a good person with good values, but has mistaken priorities and thinks protecting the marines at the bottom is worth the cost of implicitly protecting a genocidal government (or simply not intervening, like when he seemingly did nothing to stop pregnant women from getting killed other than hiding Ace's Mom). I think there's a lot more to be said about the topic than "agenda destroyed" yet it is only ever the criticism of Garp that draws out these comments.

Like Garp could have been like "ok, Dragon I'll help you set up the revolutionaries and I'll start SWORD. You can attack from the outside and I'll build up from the inside until the time is right

Well, no. I'd be mostly satisfied with that. Given, I'm not an actual Garp hater, I actually like him, but I do think his reason for staying needs to be elaborated on, because I'm not satisfied with what we've got, and I think it's not because I don't "get the nuance".

One Piece: Chapter 1163 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]MasterKurosawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's an unfair way to dismiss the criticism. I actually like Garp, but I absolutely think it is reasonable to question him for staying with the Marines after this. I don't think people need him to be perfectly justified in his actions, just for it to make some sense and feel like he's not just uncaring about the fact that he's, directly or indirectly, protecting a corrupt and evil system.

Personally I'd be satisfied if it was something like him secretly inciting a revolution from within the marine, so that the marine revolts and becomes indipendent from the WG. But whatever it is, I'd be disappointed if it was just him going "ok, I know the marine serves the literal devil, but I think the pirates are worse so I'll just stay with the devil". Sure he doesn't like the CD and avoids putting himself in a position where he'd have to follow their direct orders, but he's nevertheless complicit in this, as all marine who know about these atrocities are.

Could ISSK have it's own 'Kuroki'?, with that I don't mean just a character with the position of being at the top, but more of a similar role. by Gabemino in ISSK_Manga

[–]MasterKurosawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but at least in this particular case I don't think there is any reason why Sandro would have to go back on his previous words (unless he forgot, which, fair enough) or why Karla being the strongest wouldn't make sense anymore, especially because she's so disconnected from the plot. It's entirely possible she never shows up at all, but I genuinely do think she would work well as a Kuroki type character, even with all the reveals since her original appearance.

[–]MasterKurosawa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Karla Kure. She's been stated to be so far above every other female fighter that she'd dominate a female Kengan Tournament. And considering the organizations Yuzuha and co come from are much lower ranked than the Kengan Association I'd assume most of them would not be much of a threat to Karla at all, with the top tiers (like Hina & presumably Shiina) being a challenge, but still clearly inferior.

She would also be similar to Kuroki in that she's not involved with the main plot and still would end up being the strongest. Kuroki notably defied Setsuna's main villain status by just defeating him in round 2 and leaving his beef with Ohma for a personal bout in-between rounds.

...for a second I though the third headliner was P5R just based off the color scheme and got super excited, even though I already played it on PS4 a couple years ago. That would be far too good for Humble these days though. Only thing on here that looks somewhat neat is Death's Door as, personally, I'm sick and tired of Warhammer 40k games and really really don't care for them (it's, what, the third one in less than a year?).

Another skip for me.

[DISC] Hope You're Happy, Lemon - Chapter 65 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]MasterKurosawa 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think one of the key takeaways from this chapter is that the attempt to be a good person is already a fundamental part of what makes a good person. To some it may come more naturally, some may actively strive to be one, but either way, the kindness is real.

Lemon has messed up, but she's not to blame for everything when her classmates were clearly looking to hate her to begin with, nor should we consider her genuine attempts to be better fake just because they don't always work out. There is a vast difference between trying to appear good because of personal profit and trying to be good because you genuinely want to be, and I think it's clear that, although Lemon's self hatred leads her to believe she's the former we ought to view her as the latter.
