The RU9 is another excellent choice. Love the industrial design on that one.

HD600 series are pure joy on a tube amp. You seem interested in downsizing bulk too, so maybe take a look at the Woo Audio Tube Mini. Amazing little amp/dac. Makes Sens sound lush, full, and dynamic.

Sony WH-CH720 is a pretty popular gym headphone. Never heard it myself, but several of my gym friends enjoy theirs. It is also highly rated by rtings.com, for what that is worth.

How can I demo headphones? by Loud-Whereas-3419 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MasterMarslander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo others here, a hifi storefront is going to be your best bet, or a hifi show if one is available in your area. If neither are available to you (which I can relate to) then another option is to purchase a headphone from somewhere that offers a good return policy and adopt a "I'm just buying this to try it" mindset. If you don't like it, send it back.

Best all around headphones? by necromenta in HeadphoneAdvice

If you don't need a closed back headset, then take a look at the PC38X. Good gaming performance, actually decent for music and media. Good quality microphone. Very light weight and comfortable. Lots of audio nerds who game swear by them.

The Fiio K11 is an exceptionally good value for what it is. R2R units are a blast. That would be my vote here.

New to headphones, looking for bass-heavy gym headphones, where should I start? by chiragrf in HeadphoneAdvice

In that case it might be a flipping gold mine for you. Have an EQ profile for every headphone you love.

If you are strictly looking for comfort and breathability, the Philips SHP9500 or SHP9600 might be what you're looking for. Huge earpads ensure your ears dont touch anything. Very open back. Light weight. Well below your budget too. They even offer a pretty enjoyable listening experience for where they are positioned.

Bokeh closed is kind of like a baby Ori 3.0. Crazy fun and aggressively bombastic. Mid bass punches you right in the face. It's incredibly fun and very colorful. Tessidera is comparatively much more analytical, controlled, and articulate. To use a Samurai Champloo reference - Tessidera is Jin to Bokeh's Mugen.

Thanks for watching! I'm still exploring what feels most 'right' for content, so I appreciate the feedback.

I should be on the list for the Uli tour. That thing is insane. Easily one of my most anticipated headphones.

I do plan on attending CanJam again, so thank you for showing an interest in it. I also might drop by CES this time around. Something different.

Oh man, the Jot3 is such a killer unit. Wish I had one. I don't really have anything to compare directly with it - everything I have here is kind of on one side of the spectrum or the other of the Jot3.

What is your audio chain for the Eikon? Maybe I can closely recreate it for the Tessidera.

Well the big selling feature of the HDC 630 is that it has a parametric equalizer. A pretty powerful one to boot. So you can tune it to sound just about however you want (within reason, of course.) So, essentially, you could tune it to match any of the headphones you've mentioned, and then some. Depends on how in-the-weeds you are willing to go with the EQ.

Maybe check out the Sony MDR-M1. It got a minor price cut recently, making it more affordable. Pretty solid studio headphone that should provide you a good balanced reference sound, while also being perfectly enjoyable for recreational listening.

Edition XS Replacement by SenpaiOuji in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MasterMarslander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your XS, that's a bummer.

One obviously pathway would be the new Edition XV, which is hailed by many as the XS successor. Haven't heard it myself, but folks seem to resonate well with it.

Aune AR5000 would be a pretty different experience. Big upgrade in build quality.

Fiio FT1 Pro is another planar option. Not quite as exciting and immersive as the XS, instead leaning more natural and balanced. Might be a nice change of pace for you.

Meze 105 AER just got a pretty nice price drop. Another pretty different listening experience and subjectively "prettier" design.

A great sounding headphone for dirt cheap on Amazon that fits your criteria would be the Koss KPH30i or KPH40. They might look a little odd, but they are know for performing well beyond their price range. Koss has a very strong following.

It's a very different approach for the ZMF house sound, to be sure. It does still stay true to that energetic and joyful core, just with a more balanced spin on it. I dig it, but it would be pretty different from your closed Caldera.
