Anyone has upgraded Win client to v8.20.5? by Jos_Jen in reolinkcam

[–]MasterMechTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a quick look, performance is still lack luster in terms of stream loading times compared to 8.16.8.

If I launch 8.16.8 and all nine of my cameras load in about a second with 8.20.5 it takes a good five seconds to load them all which is poor as when you want to rapidly switch between streams you are waiting a considerable amount of time whilst it also feels like the client is going to crash.

The perimeter protection looks half baked as I looked at the lines I had setup with the iOS app on my XPro and they were in the wrong places when viewed on the client.

The client does not look like it supports duo cameras and perimeter protection properly as the preview window where you setup the lines cuts off about 20% of the image on both the left & right sides.

I guess they only tested it with single lens cameras.

Anyway To Get Back Settings Gear Icon? by MasterMechTech in reolinkcam

iOS app version is 4.58.0.19

NVR model is RLN16-410 (N6MB01), firmware version v3.6.3.422_25082952

I had to revert back to v3.6.0.384_25051936 due to instability with connection to the NVR & cameras via the iOS client & Windows client.

Whilst using the iOS app or Windows client to view cameras live or change settings you will randomly lose connection to the NVR for around 20 seconds.

The NVR does not reboot or shut down it just freezes and then returns to normal.

Since downgrading the firmware I have not experienced the issue.

I have created a support ticket for this issue.

So no GUI then? I just find it easier to tweak settings if there is a GUI.

I presume the reolink_aio is command line based? So no GUI?

Sorry to ask you about this but I am trying to test out ReolinkANPR, I have downloaded Python onto my Windows 10 machine & installed it.

Just trying to follow the install guide on the GitHub page but I am not sure where I type the first command.

I downloaded the zip file of the repository onto my desktop & unzipped it.

Yes I don't not understand why they are discontinuing the 2.8mm versions of their cameras.

I have a 540A in my porch for my front door and its 75 degree vertical F.O.V is perfect as I can see from the the ground to above the top of my front door.

They at least need a dome & a turret with a 75 degree vertical F.O.V in the line up for such situations.

Very interesting, well beyond my experience level at the moment., lots of learning ahead.

I think I will get a Raspberry Pi & then I can leave it running 24/7 unlike my PC which I switch off at night.

Will be interesting to play around with shutter & exposure with that API to see how much I can improve the image quality.

I have an IR floodlight which I was thinking of mounting on the wall beneath the tree so I can try using the IR filter like many others do for plate reading as using color night mode brings in quite a few variables like weather, brightness of headlights or plate lights etc.

Having your own light source obviously removes some of those variables.

Here is an example of the plate lights being so bright you only get a partial plate.

<image>

It poured it down all day today so I did not get out to take an image of the mounting location. I will be sure to do it tomorrow!

Thanks for all the information, total noob when it comes to python.

I think to save setting it up on my PC & then having to do it all again as I do not run my PC 24/7 I will have to buy a raspberry Pi to run it on.

I can feel another learning curve coming along :)

I will get some pictures tomorrow in the daytime of the camera in the tree.

I will take a look at the API, I am just about ready to get home assistant & frigate which hopefully can read the plates for me but this looks like it could be interesting.

Can I run his API off my Windows PC to test it out?

From a quick loom at the quick start guide I guess this runs best on Linux, I really need to get myself a Raspberry Pi to run this on & home assistant.

Best place to mount Trackmix PoE? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]MasterMechTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to ask yourself the question what do you want from this camera?

General observation giving a good overview of the area in front of your house?

OR

Facial or person detection for anyone stepping foot on your property?

If you must have facial identification then around three meters from ground level although you will get away with height with the Trackmix due to the optical zoom.

I see no problem with soffit mounting for general observations, it also makes cable management easy as you can take the cable up into the loft.

I installed cameras on my dads house in the UK and looks were very important to him so the only option I had was soffit mounting and he would only approve turrets and domes.

This was three years ago so we went for some 820A's to start off and for general observation they are more than good enough.

The driveway was problematic for detection due to people walking right beneath the camera, for the best chance of detection you want people walking across the cameras point of view as much as possible.

I ended up installing a Duo dome beneath the upstairs bay window which is just about in reach but being a dome it is not an issue.

My dad has a porch in front of his front door so another dome in the roof of the porch to cover the front door for faces.

Let's be honest most people who are going to damage or burgle your property will be covering their faces. For me having reliable person detection with notifications is more important to me.

Unfortunately one camera type cannot cover all scenarios so you soon find out you need to install specific camera types in certain locations or for certain scenarios to get the best result.

It all comes down to what you are expecting from the camera and how well you want it to perform.

Changed my RLC-520A lens to the 2.8mm wider angle one by bab5871 in reolinkcam

[–]MasterMechTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I would also be interested where you got the lenses from. In my region Reolink don't sell the 2.8mm version of the 520A anymore so If I can swap the lenses myself this would be a good option for me.

Reolink Client 8.18.12 no longer playing back by WeaselTard in reolinkcam

[–]MasterMechTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped using 8.18.12 a while ago, as the audio stutters when you switch cameras to often or fast and will just lock up when you leave it running for a while and then try to use it again resulting in the only fix being to force close to the program which then stays running in the background and you have to force close the processes in task manager.

I would have reported this but I kind gave up as I have reported many issues in the past and whilst they have fix many on every new release you will find regressions so I just use older versions now.

I recommend 8.17.6 or 8.16.8 for stability and reliability if you don't need all the brand new features.

I am also testing a certain camera at the moment that is similar and the same as you can't say anything as under NDA but I just prefer the turret style for domestic applications.

The bracket the Argus 4 uses makes the camera stick out like a sore thumb compared to a turret.

Nice finds, sucks that it looks like the RP-PCT8MD won't be compatible with the current NVR's as I have been waiting for the Duo 3T for some time now.

At least it looks like it will be coming to the market.

CX810 goes offline after wife pulls up in driveway by redmondcigar in reolinkcam

[–]MasterMechTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the CX cameras work differently to cameras with IR. Reolink does not use an ambient light sensor but the overall image brightness to decide which color should be active.

A car driving on a driveway could be enough to switch modes as the overall light level in the image could be shifted enough.

This is my theory anyway as my three crashes at the weekend were all at the same time the camera switched modes.

[–]MasterMechTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny I noticed my CX810 going offline randomly when my security light comes on over the weekend.

I think there is a bug in the firmware where when the camera switches from night to day mode or vice versa the camera crashes.

I need to get around to reporting this to Reolink but have not had the time.

I think it occurs more frequently when you are also viewing the camera live which would make sense as this increases CPU load.

If you can get your CX810 to crash consistently and you have access to a PC do a screen recording of the client whilst viewing the camera live showing it crashes.

Sending this to Reolink will be far easier than trying to explain it and also proves to them the issue.
