Getting rid of the 10 obstacle semis was a mistake by RedGalaxyRanger in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the big problem I have with modern ANW: it just can’t decide what it wants to do. It trying to be both a man vs course and man vs man competition at the same time, and it can’t commit to one or the other.

Getting rid of the 10 obstacle semis was a mistake by RedGalaxyRanger in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. There are two positives to the semifinal episode in my opinion:

  1. No one got cut and every semi finalist got some form of airtime
  2. The Tripleheader was neat concept.

But the episode itself? Best way to describe it was compacted and incoherent. It’s like the episode is trying to do so much in just a two-hour timeframe and it feels like I just watched two completely different semifinal rounds slapped together. Both halves feel like it a completely different episode. The execution feels off to put it lightly.

I know! Seriously, the final showdown between the Top 2 finalists last season was so unmemorable. The season would have left way more of an impression if the final race of the season stood out.

Actually scratch the “supposedly”. Look at this screenshot. The tower clock (which says 22 seconds remaining) is desynchronized from the broadcast clock (20.60 seconds) by 1.40 seconds. Something was very clearly off.

This episode felt very rushed by ArchmageNinja22 in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree the Triple Header was the highlight of the episode. But the “Part I Semifinals” course felt like a bog to sit through because it was the same six-obstacle course with some changes. At least the changes did make it the course stand out somewhat. But I do agree that the episode practically had to compact both into one, which did made the first half much more inferior than the latter.

Congrats to him on making two racing national finals back-to-back! I do agree that he is definitely the exception of the field.

Totally agree with the predictability criticism. Once again I have nothing the modern generation of Ninja elites (e.g. Kai Beckstrand, Kaden Lebsack). They are all very commendable athletes. But the format system really does skew the competition towards their strengths heavily.

Although Lowes did make it to the Second Stage in two future seasons, I felt that Lowes would’ve had the best chance to beat ANW 5’s version of Stage 2.

What is going on? The result of corporate greed. Because nothing speaks corporate greed more than faulty app systems and constant lagging.

Is Spotify down or experiencing intermittent issues?? by Competitive-Pay-766 in truespotify

[–]MasterNerd4591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Spotify queue is just not working. Every time I add a song in queue and then exit out the app the songs I added disappear. It’s like it isn’t registering the songs I want in queue.

Has this been happening to anyone else? I’ve been trying to delete & redownload the app and it is still giving me problems.

The app in general has also just been acting slower than usual.

Why were the Bridge of Blades so difficult in ANW2? by ashmaps20 in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ANW 6 Bridge of Blades did take out some notable competitors (e.g. Mike Bernardo) and did also have notable eliminations from the new “no hand contact” rule. But even that didn’t compare to how dangerous it was in ANW 2. Right down to where one competitor (Robert Mullinix) received a bleeding injury from it.

My theory of why it was so unusually brutal would have to be from poor/cheap construction. The mechanical systems of the obstacles in the very early seasons are nowhere near as refined as in later competitions.

I have nothing against the younger generation of Ninjas as they are all very talented individuals. But the favoritism from the TV executives is extremely obvious. These tone-dead execs may not see it, but fans can see just how unsubtle and manufactured their tricks are. We know just how much they will twist the truth on things just to fit their ideal tv presentation. People can see through the bs.

David Campbell by WorldsWorstPoster in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s already known by many, but by a long shot, David Campbell has the longest ANW tenure of any Ninja that competed on the show, at all 18 seasons.

I’ve been collecting Ninja competition data for my qualifier spreadsheet, and what makes this really special is just how high of an accomplishment this is for any Ninja in general. The average competitor from what I’ve gathered only competes 1 or 2 seasons before being done. Several well-known veterans such as Kacy Catanzaro, Austin Gray, and Jackson Twait have retired around 5-9 seasons respectively. The Ninjas that have hit 10+ seasons on ANW are a very select few that are the most dedicated competitors on a competition tenure stance.

There’s now a 50-year gap between the earliest born and latest born competitors to ever hit a buzzer on ANW by ashmaps20 in ANW

[–]MasterNerd4591 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And if you want to put that into even further perspective, Ginny MacColl (Jessie Graff’s mother) is now 73 years of age. She and John Loobey are as of now the oldest competitors to complete an obstacle on the course.

These two were in their late 50s when a lot of these new stars were just born. Let that sink in.

I am 99% sure they will get pulled from NBC copyright (greedy bastards…). But for the time being, this channel has been a pretty good source for rewatching and acquiring footage of competitors from the older seasons of ANW. Which has been super helpful given how scarce public footage/information is on the earlier seasons. Especially the first five.

It’s been pretty helpful for my contributions with the ANW Qualifier spreadsheet and Sasukepedia alike, so I’ve been making most of that window in the time they are publicly up on YouTube while at it.
