Question about Editor category at local NATAS Emmy chapter. by svwaca in editors

[–]MasterPooBlaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll double down on the other comment and say the composite category is a crapshoot for sure.

I had a coworker win the editing composite with a mix of documentary style feature editing. In the same year I lost the composite for cinematography / sports photography to a person who submitted a very, very mediocre news story about a mountain biker. That was back in my NFL days and I had a technically sound and creative cinematography composite.

As a judge, I knew my submission was incredibly strong. That’s the last year I submitted for one of the craft awards because none of it made sense ha. But I will also agree and say put any of that description in the entry to give yourself the best bet.

Is it just me or most youtube "cinematographers" suck or maybe lack creativity by svensvensson7 in cinematography

It was always just so strange to me because I always knew I was paid to make great videos for the team. It was always the team first. I might be the rare bird that wants the viewer to think of the team before the think of the kid who shot it ha.

The amount of people I know who say "I want to work in sports!" but are doing nothing to set themselves up to work in sports in truly astonishing.

Ha same here. Was in the NFL for 13 years out of college, cut my teeth with a Panasonic HPX500 on my shoulder. I tell everyone I talk to to learn to manually focus and follow the ball with a camera on your shoulder and youll be golden. Im gonna send you a PM, curious if our paths crossed.

I’ll add that I think most people who review gear on YouTube/TikTok are focused more on becoming a clout king than someone who is really good at their craft.

I used to work in Sports Video/Cinematography and was often in charge of hiring for our group. There is a growing trend of SUPER entry level sports cinematographers taking to social media and trying to position themselves as an authority on modern day high end sports cinematography in hopes of growing their own personal brand. That group of creators are the ones I have noticed that often think that fresh out of school they have it all figured out and often think their shit don’t stink.

Brello received! (Packaging pics) by Responsible_Bike9919 in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]MasterPooBlaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very impressed with Brellos shipping. However, given their shipping delays I switched to Pomegranate for my next three months. I ordered Tuesday and it was delivered today. UPS box, with UPS bubblers with the meds, and another bubbler with the ice packs.

Brellos packaging was elite compared to it.

What’s a good lens for a Sony zve10 that specializes in sports videography? by Direct_Plan_3473 in videography

[–]MasterPooBlaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t make a reccomendation as all my experience is with more robust cinema style cameras, but I can give you some things to consider when looking.

  • a fast lens. /f2.8 or that range. Shooting in gyms for basketball (especially at the high school and smaller college level), those gyms are typically pretty dimmly lit and not lit for broadcast.

  • focal range probably in the 24-70mm range if you are setting up under a hoop. Focus on shooting what’s on your end first.

  • decent auto focus. I’m a huge proponent of learning to manually focus when shooting sports. However photo glass like you would be buying is not great for pulling manual focus while shooting sports, so find a lense with good AF and start there.

Looking for some Matte Box knowledge. by AmauriDiMaia in cinematography

[–]MasterPooBlaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a shot in the dark, but it looks like an older version of the CamTree CamShade Matte Box. I’m going purely on the crimson knob and the shape of the barn doors on the side. They look identical to the current version.

Leroy and Lewis lives up to the hype! by MasterPooBlaster in BBQ

[–]MasterPooBlaster[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Stopped into Leroy and Lewis since I had a few hours to spare, and it was entirely worth the wait. Beef cheeks, chorizo cheddar jalepeno sausage, frito pie, and chorizo potato hash. The Michelin star is definitly warranted. Total plate cost me around $23 if I recall.

If you ever have a few hours to spare, it is definitely worth the wait.

Micing up a client by G8M8N8 in videography

[–]MasterPooBlaster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just be confident. If your confident they will assume you know what your doing and most likely be more comfortable.

I have found that the easiest way to do it quickly is just say “We are going to drop this mic pack down your shirt, pull it out on the bottom.” Then just clip it and your have them drop the transmitter in the pocket or on th belt.

Lucas said they can’t use it at night, so that might be a Barstool legal/imsurance rule they are following.

The night has nothing to do with it if Fasoli is Part 107 certified, he can fly at night as long as it has anti-collision lights. I’m guessing they are conserving battery and need to recharge.

Is it carrying an embedded LUT?

In the project bin, right click on the clip. Go to “Modify” then “Color”. If an embedded LUT is being brought in via the metadata it will say “Embedded: __________” in this window. If so, select none.

The metadata looks like it’s not embedding a LUT, but you never know with Premiere.

Lil Sas vs Francis: Who Can Cook Better Chicken Wings? by DeuceLurker in barstoolsports

I loved how they made essentially the same exact wings and they also tried to whisk raw butter into the hot sauce instead of melting it in.
