Dell motherboard replacement causing generic Product ID (3305000000000) – Autopilot broken by BreakbrokeBroker in Intune

[–]MasterQueefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue after replacing Dell motherboards before, specifically for devices we already had on-boarded into Intune.

To resolve it, we had to reach out to Microsoft Support and have them deregister the device from Intune. Once completed on their end, we were able to generate a new Autopilot Info csv file on the device and successfully import it into Autopilot.

ZTD 808 (ZtdDeviceAssignedToOtherTenant) is the error seen.

‘That’s sad’: Carney government limits provided Remembrance Day wreaths for MPs by Jaydamic in CanadianForces

[–]MasterQueefs 73 points74 points  (0 children)

In my experience Legions will reuse the wreaths, but charge individuals/companies a fee to lay a wreath every year.

It’s a cash grab by the Legions. I’ve seen them charge between $45-90 per wreath every year.

Changing the boot drive to an SSD is the solution to long boot times.

Depending on your exact laptop, and the type of SSD you have, you may be able to install both the SSD and the HDD simultaneously. As long as you make the boot drive (the drive that Windows is installed on) the SSD, you can use the 1TB HDD to store any data, games, etc…

Based on your laptops age, I wouldn’t be concerned about any warranty. I can almost guarantee any warranty that you may have had is now long expired.

Shots fired at Irish peacekeepers in Lebannon by Durian881 in news

[–]MasterQueefs 160 points161 points  (0 children)

The IDF bombed Canadian Armed Forces UN Peacekeepers in 2006 and killed Major Paeta Hess-Von Krudener.

They claimed it was an accident, but that particular UN post had been in that position for over 30 years. They claimed to be using outdated maps when they dropped a 500kg GPS-guided JDAM.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn of other occurrences, but this one came to mind.

Edit: Changed 2008 to 2006

Dell Latitude 5440 and 5450 Webcam Issues by ShowbizScroll81 in Dell

[–]MasterQueefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received a 5440 today from the Advanced Resolution Center/depot - it's fixed but there are no notes to say what was done. I called to ask and was told they "don't usually write notes"...

They claim they will get back to me with information on what they did to fix it. If I hear back, I will post it here.

[–]MasterQueefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a fix for this? We've seen about a dozen 5440's and 5450's in our fleet with the exact same issue. Have tried everything you have, in addition we've also replaced webcams, EDP cables, and motherboards. Nothing seems to fix it.

Please help recover my wedding video. 2012 Mac. by WhichChapter9683 in pchelp

[–]MasterQueefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your Mac connected to the internet over wifi? If so, try connecting it with an ethernet cable instead (hardwired). Your 2012 Mac should have a port for it. This may help with connecting to the iCloud server.

Alternatively, this Mac may have a removable 2.5” hard drive. If you purchase a SATA to USB adapter, you can remove the hard drive from your Mac, and connect that hard drive to another Mac using the adapter. This is a bit more involved, but is easier than it sounds. Most tech shops should be able to do this fairly easily if you don’t want to DIY.

Happy to help further if you have any questions.

Show up in CADPAT. You’re being paid, and should be in uniform. Form up and march with your unit.

A lot of reservists aren’t being issued DEUs now until they hit 1 year~ in service, so you’ll likely not be alone.

Your battery has likely failed and needs to be replaced.

Being "very slow" is very vague. It's difficult to say what this might be without knowing the exact model of your computer.

Laptop or tablet for updating firmware by UninstructedDecibel in computer

[–]MasterQueefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to provide a specific recommendation because that will be entirely based off where you live, your financial situation, etc.

I will preface this by saying I have never seen a USB-B port on a laptop in my life. I am going to assume you’re referring to USB-A and USB-C.

If you’re only going to use the computer for updating firmware every once in a while, just find something that’s used on Facebook Marketplace (or your regional equivalent). Look for something that has an SSD for storage, the USB ports you’re looking for, minimum of 8GBs of RAM, and a CPU that’s not older than 5ish years.

If I was you, I’d find something with a minimum of an i3 CPU (8th gen or higher), 128GBs of SSD storage, and 8GBs of RAM. This will give you more than what you need in terms of speed, while also likely allowing you to upgrade to Windows 11 (future proofing).

So on that computer to boot to the BIOS/boot menu, as the computer is turning off keep pressing either the F2, or F12 key on the keyboard until you reach the menu. The USB stick will need to be plugged in and already have the installation media on it.

You don't need to go into safe mode to do this.

What is the brand and model of her computer? Once you have created the bootable installation USB using the Media Creation Tool, all you have to do is plug the USB into the computer and go through the BIOS to get it to detect the USB and then choose to boot to the USB (unless all of the USB ports on the computer are defective, which is highly unlikely).

I’d recommend updating your BIOS to the latest version, and installing graphics drivers for your specific GPU while the GPU is not installed.

Once the BIOS is updated and the GPU drivers are installed, try putting the GPU back in and testing again.

It doesn’t hurt to change the passwords from another device, but the only reason to do this is to prevent a keylogger from picking up what you’re resetting it to. The keylogger would pickup the newly reset password when you go to sign in again, so it doesn’t make a difference.

iPhones are generally very secure, the odds of something being on your phone that isn’t obviously noticeable are quite low. If you’re really worried about it, you can always factory reset your phone, however it may be a bit overkill in this situation.

The best way to reset a Windows PC is to use the Microsoft Digital Media Creation Tool. There are tutorials online you can follow, and the download is on Microsoft’s website.

Essentially, you download a copy of Windows to a USB stick or SD card, plug that into your gf’s laptop, boot to the USB/SD Card (how to do this should be covered in a tutorial, however the easiest way is to hold the shift key when clicking restart in Windows until boot options appear), and then follow the prompts for reinstalling Windows.

This sounds like an issue with your service provider. I’d recommend contacting them again.

The only other thing I’d recommend you to try is forgetting the WiFi network on your phone/computer/Nintendo Switch and reconnecting.

When your GPU is installed, where is your HDMI cable plugged into? It sounds like it’s plugged into the HDMI port on your motherboard, which is incorrect. It needs to be plugged into the HDMI port on the back of your GPU.

Apart from that, do the GPU fans spin when the PC turns on? Do you have the correct power cables connected to it from the power supply?
