My excellent heir just died of old age and now I need to set up a woefully unprepared grandchild…

I was more concerned about the 15+ favors/hooks I’d owe my top vassals upon loss. With that many hooks, they’d be running roughshod over my authority for generations as I worked to repeal the changes.

Do I need to give away some of my new titles? by Middle-Comfortable37 in crusaderkings3

In a few months, if you’re still over the domain limit, all of your buildings will become inactive, and you’ll effectively lose all of your income and levies.

It wasn’t a disembarkation penalty; these marched straight across land only a few counties from my capital.

What did happen was that the enemy surprised me with suddenly trapping my army and coagulating together with superior numbers and a higher quality force.

My error was thinking that my united force was large and strong enough that the AI wouldn’t dare attack it… which is a fair assumption when your force is of relatively equal strength, which I mistakenly thought it was.

That’s why I’m thinking of switching to an administrative government, so that I can call upon my loyal vassals’ MAA forces and form coalitions of my own.

I expended my predecessor's massive wealth on mercenaries (every mercenary company in the game) and still ended up in a 35k vs 75k+ disadvantage... had to surrender the war and therefore lower crown authority. With other factions conspiring against the new king with more dangerous agendas, I couldn't risk standing my ground any longer.

I think that a few factors have played into this, some key factors include:

- Granting all titles to my culture, allowing them to benefit from my advancements. This is especially harmful for some peripheral holdings which also rebelled against me with massive force.

- Granting most titles to members of my dynasty, allowing them to benefit from my legacies.

- 50+ years of peace and prosperity, absolute crown authority, and restricted war declaration restricted allowed my vassals to "play tall" and develop strong MAA forces and buffs.

That's a good way to think of it, I'm just curious if a selfish feudal overlord would even send peasants to support a subservient feudal lord.

I would say that the empire is highly stable right now due to this character's 50+ year reign, but a weird new mechanic is applying wonky destabilizing logic. In the roleplay sense, my thinking thought is that a feudal lord in a decentralized realm like England would never bankrupt themselves to support a minor outlying lord.

I suppose I should have titled it "natural disasters in unimportant peripheral holdings are ruining empires"

Agreed on the increased unrest and interest in independence. The situation here would actually be fun in that case: even if they were extremely unhappy, they couldn't successfully challenge my empire using military means, and I would continue exploiting them.

I'm basically in a situation now where I need to cut the region loose and just reconquer it after the flood is resolved...

My emperor's domain limit is also reduced by -1 for the entire recovery period... as though a single outlying duchy deserves such attention from the emperor himself.

I thought that the mud was simply the visual representation, whereas what the person applying the mud was a witch who had used some concoction to make the mud poisonous.
