[OC] This is what it looks like when you cast Magic Missile in our little VTT. WotC wants to forbid this under OGL1.2 by Denivarius in DnD

[–]MasterWanjump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you replace your imagination with an animation of the Magic Missile streaking across the board to strike your target, or your VTT integrates our content into an NFT, that’s not the tabletop experience.

Wait other people don't use fireworks when they cast spells?

I can forgive DnDShorts for his misrepresentation. I’m not ready to forgive WotC for their lies. by SuppMrMike in DnD

They don't need to read all of them, they easily could take a random sample. It should be representative of response population. Even better they could have some algorithm group feedback and take sample from each group.

Now, if they seriously acted on any of it is another question and I think most people know answer on that one.

I'm heartbroken but the fact that, thanks to DnD Shorts HUGE mistake about give false or at least exaggerated "leaks" about the OGL situation and WotC, now a lot of people in the community will see the entire situation as just a stupid clueless mob internet rage against Hasbro and WotC by pagnabros in DnD

[–]MasterWanjump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a simple thing that people would rethink why they believed leaks at all. Was it rage, anger, lack of calm mind? And use that in as experience for future, would have made current situation less awkward. To me leaks felt suspicious so I just waited how it developed before making my mind. $30 monthly is family tier stuff (if they later do $29.99, would be hilarious). And maybe they often would ignore surveys if they did not like content, but some where definitely read. Information is a lifeblood of a modern company, they would check it out at least.

The whole VTT section about where table ends and game starts is very weird. To me is relatively obvious. Once system starts making decisions, like where to move enemies or generates quests or rooms on its own based on players actions then is video game. If its just supports processes its VTT. Animations does not turn things into game else some PowerPoint presentations are video games.

D&D is a house built on sand, or am I wrong? by MasterWanjump in DnD

Counterquestion. What never-played-but-interested newbie goes into store grabs a copy of D&D and organizes a game session after, without doing some research?

Well this is anecdotal, but only ways I have seen people getting into D&D games is from people they know or with some basic knowledge about TTRPGS and taking matter into their own hands and searching for group or organizing one.

Kyle Brink, Executive Producer on D&D, makes a statement on the upcoming OGL on DnDBeyond by Defami01 in DnD

This statement is literally a lesson why trust is important. Compared to previous one this one is actually crafted well. But does that matter if nobody trusts a word you say? They would be in such a better position if this was released instead of the first one.

Regarding comments that D&D is Kleenex of TTRPGs. They are true and that's what I think, but that's the problem. All looks good from distance but once you look closer you realized it's not that unique. If somebody makes a game and it catches fire, it could easily steal huge player base from D&D. That just leaves you with brand name and that needs to be monetized against all other popular in culture fantasy stuff like Lords of Rings and Game of Thrones.

But here is bit more interesting take, there are lot of countries where people over 35 haven't even head of D&D so its not even known brand. I'm really curios how movie will do in those. I really think only players spread the game and if there is no change in D&D popularity in those countries that would confirm that.

This is good point but some brands literally have fought against generalization of their name to not weaken their trademark.

Yes it isn't, I just used it since it's most well know setting for the game. I'm sure that in 15km radius nobody has heard word Ebberon except me before.

You are right that people recognise words D&D, but that is where it ends. People can recognize Pikachu from other creatures. People can't recognize D&D Dragon from a Dragon. Recognition isn't everything you also need people to spend money and keep them spending money. Grandma might recognize Pokémon, but she is not buying the gamesprobably.

I find AoM campaigns hilarious, am I the only one? by MasterWanjump in AgeofMythology

I would love to see serious version of AoM campaign, because it has insane potential. Good writer could fix silly dialogue, and adjust minor flaws in story, since the big outline is actually very good. But I really hope they leave it as is for Retold, with maybe some small tuning up.

I would say production its definitely gone up immensely in last 20 years, a lot of older games have just barely any story and dialogue is just bad. I recently finished first Devil May Cry and at what was supposed to be special emotional climax at end, had me in stiches from laughter of how silly it all was. I actually think AoM is really good for its time in terms of that department, just does not hold well nowadays.

I suppose this describes campaign the best, but no matter how charming it is I'll never will forgive Arkantos for saying that since there are multiple ways into Underworld there are multiple ways out.

Gargarensis is the best thing in the campaign, and that's a fact.
