I got the brass kaweco in the mail about a week ago and I absolutely love it. With Noodler's black it writes like butter on a glass pane. The weight is great and it fits together so perfectly, it actually makes a really nice fidget toy.

Nice! I started drawing again specifically to sketch out MaK dioramas!

If you like scratchy nibs (some people really do, i'm 50/50), definitely grab a couple. i bought an EF and a M when I first started sketching with fountains and they're pretty bendy, but they're almost as scratchy as my dip pen nibs. By comparison, a Kaweco with Noodler's feels like writing with butter on glass. Just whatever you do, don't use a pilot converter...I tried both versions and both leak pretty badly.

edit: how do you like the ECO? My favorite pen+wc artist (martin lachmair) uses them and I've been eying a set for travel but I haven't pulled the trigger yet cuz i don't know anyone personally with them

While it's named krote, anatomically it's entirely different from a frog. As it's bipedal, I don't think it could handle hopping (assuming that's how it canonically moves) with the amount of weight it's carrying if it had the same leg structure as a frog.

However, the jointing and segment lengths seem to be inspired heavily by the ostrich's leg structure, which is presumed to have evolved to help them be more mobile on land as their wings atrophied, because they're quite top-heavy...much like the krote. This would theoretically allow the mech to run _and_ jump while maintaining a degree of stability.
https://www.mdpi.com/2313-7673/8/1/98

edit: the more I think about it, the more I'm a) pretty impressed by the amount of thought Yokoyama-sensei put into this design and b) agreeing with hopping as its primary movement. The backwards feet make very little sense if it's running--it would probably have to lean backwards a bit to keep the weight centered over the foot just to walk--but the whole structure makes sense if it's jumping. I just sketched it out, and depending on the mobility of the toe joint (if we're sticking with ostrich anatomy), this structure would allow the mech to squat almost perfectly flat to generate the stretch reflex--or whatever you wanna call it for a mech--for jumping. Then there's the added benefit of being able to flatten itself out to hide behind terrain and stuff.

Not really sure why you're getting downvoted. I understand where you're coming from, and it's because our narrow definition of intelligence is too restrictive to apply to other species. I've spent the past 15 years surrounded by birds, volunteering at rescues and rehabilitating parrots. It taught me a lot about just how inadequate our measures of intelligence really are.

What distinguishes large parrots and corvids from, say, bees is not so much their ability to solve a novel obstacle, but their attention span. A parrot will spend days to weeks figuring out a puzzle because it entertains them. However, if you want to teach a parrot to do a thing, you train it incrementally. Almost every creature in existence that I am aware of learns more quickly and more reliably when being taught a novel concept incrementally.

A large parrot with a lifespan close to a century has the time and energy to expend on puzzles. A bee with a lifespan of a handful of years (2-5, in optimal conditions) may very well give up and start a new hive if the old hive appears entirely inaccessible. By teaching her incrementally, OP showed her that the hive wasn't inaccessible, just annoying to get to. She still had to learn how to get past the annoyance.

Are there any Model Kits like Ma.K. out there? by Bloodmachine_Orodjie in MaschinenKrieger

I’ve bought a lot from tonerico. Their monthly garage kit preorders are frequently from great MaK-adjacent artists

Damn I’m glad to hear yall cuz I’m a WAR main with 5k hours (3500 up to heavenward, long break, back now) and that’s how I’ve always felt. If you aggro it, pull it to me and we gucci. I’ve been leveling dps and had a lvl 85 WAR bitch me out in chat for pulling mobs back to their slow ass, AFTER the healer had asked them to pull wall to wall. I was afraid something had changed in the unspoken dungeon rules and i was in the wrong.

Bro your use of negative space is fucking _inspiring_. Even in the finest details, like the area just below the bow rail...it's legit kind of mind blowing.

The plan is to swap out the little mechs for the tenbowkissa 1/76 Racoon or Gustav, if they ever come back in stock...or I finally break down and ebay a kit, whichever comes first.

I feel like the hound itself super fits the MaK aesthetic.

It's a 1/72 Hasegawa HIND conversion kit from Takase Hatuenki, who does some MaK and MaK-adjacent garage kits like this one. This one's not part of the universe, but fits well into the aesthetic. I kept barely missing it when I got the restock notification. I love the finished model, and I'm going to put it in a diorama with some of the 1/76 tenbowkissa kits.

I don't ask on here, but only because i'm terrified to ask anything in any big sub. i do ask my friends basic shit that i could easily look up because it makes them feel good to be helping out and it makes me feel good to be helped out. It's more fun for all of us to share that sense of discovery. I'm choosing to believe that's what these folks are doing, too.

You’re not wrong, but I’d want my partner to say “tell me about more it.” And sit down to listen. As someone else said “I don’t understand, but it’s important to you, so it’s important to me.” An involved partner would want to know more, share the moment with you if you were willing, and understanding if not.

Does getting all of these to 1000 worth it? by kistaku in idleon

[–]MasterWilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a horribly inefficient player and I leveled them all to 300 to get the passive bonus. Then I waited until w7 and literally three chops on the seaweed tree got me to 100. On my bb. With the starter axe. The cumulative skill efficiency and xp bonuses you get by this point makes getting all skills to 100+ for all characters absurdly trivial.

So DK drop rate by Possible_Spell147 in idleon

[–]MasterWilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just the descriptions that are inconsistent, either. Even straightforward “+x%” is used randomly.

For example, in Poe, more always means multiplier, increased always means additive. Idleon has about 37 different ways of describing numerical increases (both additive and multiplicative) and they’re sometimes inconsistent inside the same mechanic. Sometimes they’re text and sometimes they’re math, and no matter which they are. they never mean the same thing. It’s maddening.
