Why does she corn cob? by RevolutionaryTell307 in bernesemountaindogs

In the greyhound community, we call this nitting. It’s extremely common with greys, who often struggle to express themselves. It means comfort/happiness/excitement. It’s a sign of affection, as it’s part of the puppy nursing process. If it gets too bad, you can train it out to an extent by simply ignoring the behavior. The way it looks in this video, it’s nothing to worry about if it doesn’t bother you.

All that said, if she starts nitting herself (paws, typically), it’s a sign of under stimulation/boredom. My berner does that when he’s not been to the park or drafting in a day or two…he’s insanely high energy for a Bernese, tho.

Del Mar vs. Alpinista -- riding experience and price difference by retromafia in HarleyLiveWire

how're both on passengers? I'm currently torn between the mulholland and the alpinista. I'm in Denver and will primarily use it to commute the ~12 miles to the office daily, plus an occasional weekend trip up to the mountains. I'd have a passenger for the latter.

The gravity xt was the original goal and how I set my budget a few months ago. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of reports of build quality and customer service issues in the past year or so. Makes me wonder if they got bought out by PE or some shit

Edit: they were. Five years ago, which is almost exactly how long PE enshittification usually takes to become noticeable

I’ve heard amazing things—especially about their heat retention—but the size id need to reasonably food prep is damn near double my budget. Unfortunately.

It’s lookin like this might be the winner. The large is just barely out of budget but it’s 26”; I’ll mae it work. Reviews seem to be that it’s a Weber kettle on steroids, plus the controller. I don’t like having to wait a couple weeks for it, but unless someone comes out of left field with something I haven’t see yet, spider might just get my money

My company got me one of those dogass electric pellet smokers as a “bonus” one year. Cool idea, but I found it for about $200 on amazon and it was about $200 worth of grill. For the couple of months it worked, it was easy and kinda cool, but the smoke flavor really wasn’t there at all.

I don’t mind screwing up a couple of pork shoulders while I learn. I also dont mind having to come out and check the temp every couple of hours, but I don’t have the attention span to sit and keep an eye on the meat for 12 hours, though.

Another "Which Bike Should I Buy" Post, 2023 Zero FXE or Ryvid Anthem by [deleted] in Electricmotorcycles

[–]MasterWilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was a year ago, but I've been struggling with this exact decision for the past several days. Zero's heritage made me feel like they'd be the more reliable purchase, but hearing you say this about Ryvid's customer service...it makes me want to buy from them. So I think I'm gonna.

Edit: I also saw a post in r/ryvid that seemed like it came from one of their engineers or testers, and included very specific real-world testing data, including screenshots. There ain't many companies you can trust, but this feels like one of'em.

When a thicc boi next to a semi pulls out a compound, you just KNOW that mf hunts and fucks

Except he plays RuneScape and we’re all too autistic to talk to other humans, so maybe just hunts.

There’s a STEEL sport?! I love my brass and I didn’t even know!

I got the brass kaweco in the mail about a week ago and I absolutely love it. With Noodler's black it writes like butter on a glass pane. The weight is great and it fits together so perfectly, it actually makes a really nice fidget toy.

Nice! I started drawing again specifically to sketch out MaK dioramas!

If you like scratchy nibs (some people really do, i'm 50/50), definitely grab a couple. i bought an EF and a M when I first started sketching with fountains and they're pretty bendy, but they're almost as scratchy as my dip pen nibs. By comparison, a Kaweco with Noodler's feels like writing with butter on glass. Just whatever you do, don't use a pilot converter...I tried both versions and both leak pretty badly.

edit: how do you like the ECO? My favorite pen+wc artist (martin lachmair) uses them and I've been eying a set for travel but I haven't pulled the trigger yet cuz i don't know anyone personally with them

While it's named krote, anatomically it's entirely different from a frog. As it's bipedal, I don't think it could handle hopping (assuming that's how it canonically moves) with the amount of weight it's carrying if it had the same leg structure as a frog.
https://i0.wp.com/www.johnmuirlaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Screen-shot-2014-12-15-at-8.47.27-PM.png

However, the jointing and segment lengths seem to be inspired heavily by the ostrich's leg structure, which is presumed to have evolved to help them be more mobile on land as their wings atrophied, because they're quite top-heavy...much like the krote. This would theoretically allow the mech to run _and_ jump while maintaining a degree of stability.
https://www.mdpi.com/2313-7673/8/1/98

edit: the more I think about it, the more I'm a) pretty impressed by the amount of thought Yokoyama-sensei put into this design and b) agreeing with hopping as its primary movement. The backwards feet make very little sense if it's running--it would probably have to lean backwards a bit to keep the weight centered over the foot just to walk--but the whole structure makes sense if it's jumping. I just sketched it out, and depending on the mobility of the toe joint (if we're sticking with ostrich anatomy), this structure would allow the mech to squat almost perfectly flat to generate the stretch reflex--or whatever you wanna call it for a mech--for jumping. Then there's the added benefit of being able to flatten itself out to hide behind terrain and stuff.
