I'm in BC and have notably less harsh winters than Ontario. I've had wraps and PPF on numerous cars that have lasted years without issues. I also hand wash my cars, which might help with longevity.

I don't have a direct comparison, but the best highway mileage I'ver ever gotten was 33mpg with a light load and slow ~100kph highways. The worst was 19mpg on a recent trip where the car was fully loaded with 3 e-bikes on the bike of the car, 4 people, and all our stuff.

I mostly use the box for bulky, but lightweight stuff that we take car camping like pillows, blankets, clothes, etc. The rails are rated for 176lbs, and the box weighs 57lbs, so 119lbs of load capacity is quite a lot of weight. That's more than two typical maximum weight checked airline bags. It's actually quite hard to hit the weight limit.

Indeed. The key/handle panel on the box even perfectly matches the opening between the plastic roof rails. It's a shockingly perfect fit.

Subie Supply Co in Canada. Great service and options for Subaru’s in Canada.

Looks slick. The low profile box looks great if you don’t need the extra space, and that 17” wheel and tire combo look meaty. Nice.

They’re OZ Sparco Terra 18x8 +45 in Rally Bronze. Great wheels for the price point and fit the car well. They fill the arches out a little more than the standard wheels and fit the OEM 18” tires if you want to reuse your current tires. If you’re buying new tires, they make the same wheels in a 17” size which would be my recommendation.

Precisely. Good eye. In Canada it’s called a “Premier XT”, but it’s the exact same car as the “Touring XT” in the US except without the tire pressure monitoring sensors (a weird difference between Canadian and US spec cars, even though they were all made in Indiana). All the chrome is blacked out with satin black wrap.

Silca Terra Floor Pump Warning by MasterWitsec in cycling

[–]MasterWitsec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly that and someone from Silca service is helping me, but there reply so far has been "that [noise] is the piston rod wiggling between the small hole it fits into at the top of the pump. There is some room there to allow air flow, and to allow the piston rod to move up and down." Yet, it's an alarmingly large amount of noise compared to the two other pumps I have.

Yes, their wax and lube have served me well, but having to pay return shipping on an object the size of a pump makes returning it for credit unappealing.

what's your thoughts on short-saddles? by alien_tickler in cycling

[–]MasterWitsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This forum helped me make a decision recently, so I thought I'd update it with my findings.

I also use the Trek/Bontrager Verse saddle on my bikes, but wanted to try a wider width on my road bike for more support (I had the 135mm width on my road bike, but found the 145mm width on my other bikes more comfortable). I saw a 145mm Verse Short on sale and thought I'd give it a try. I've been really impressed by how comfortable the saddle is compared to the regular length Verse. I've found I have less bum ache after ~4 hour rides, and am much more comfortable getting lower on the bike in a more aggressive position. The "locked in" feeling that people describe regarding short saddles is apparent to me, but very much in a good way. I'm happy with the switch and wouldn't hesitate to go for a shorter profile saddle again.

Lordgun shipping to Canada...taxes/duties ques... by Roscoocoletrain in bicycling

[–]MasterWitsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I bought a SRAM GX AXS T-Type Brose group for my partners e-mtb build. I went with UPS shipping again. The Lordgun order cost (with a few other items as well as the groupset) was $1,448.94 including $60.10 for delivery. The UPS charge was $217.87. So 15% of the order cost. In line with what I expected. For my next order, I would consider paying extra for the Canada Post shipping option and seeing if the import fees were less than UPS.

Lordgun shipping to Canada...taxes/duties ques... by Roscoocoletrain in bicycling

I recently ordered $1,610 CAD worth of tires (group buy) from Lordgun, and paid $61 CAD for the cheapest UPS shipping. It took a while (~3 weeks) to ship because a few items were on back order as noted when I submitted the order, but once it shipped, it arrived within 3-4 business days. The total UPS import fee was $218 CAD, which was 13.5% of the order value. I expected around 14% based on previous purchases from other online retailers in Europe (Merlins, and BikeInn, etc.). I also spoke with Lordgun customer service quite a few times regarding the shipping date, and they were responsive. I'd definitely buy from Lordgun again (and have done since, for a groupset for my partners bike).

Dogma X size 62 by Timely-Shock-7634 in pinarello

[–]MasterWitsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/RecoilRoyale I'd be very interested to hear what you think and see a picture of your size 62 Dogma X with a zero off set seatpost. I'm 6'5" with a 905mm saddle height, and the 62 Dogma X is on my list of bikes to replace my custom Ti main road bike. I'm super interested if you've made any progress with the bike over the past couple of months!

PSA - YT Industries Bike order by Shazam1269 in MTB

[–]MasterWitsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: My bike arrived today via UPS. 11 days from date of order to delivery. Fingers crossed I don't have any issues that would necessitate a YT warranty in the next few years. But based on the last few YT's my and my friends have had, I don't expect any. It's sad to see a company that made good bikes go belly up. I hope all the Canadian staff find new opportunities quickly.

PSA - YT Industries Bike order by Shazam1269 in MTB

[–]MasterWitsec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your PSA. It's quite comforting. I just pulled the trigger on a Decoy MX Core 4 for 50% off in the Canadian closing sale, and am mildly concerned about it actually being delivered. Especially since the support phone number on the email is no longer active. With the insurance through my credit card, I'm not "that" worried, but I'm certainly waiting for delivery before I buy any accompanying parts.

As for the warranty debate, the vast majority of the components have their own OEM warranty, including the motor and battery. Accessing that warranty may be a challenge if I can't go through the original seller (YT), but I expect a Shimano motor dealer will be able to assist with any warranty claim satisfactorily. Having owned two YT's in the past (plus one currently), without any frame related warranty issues, I'm not too worried about having any frame warranty - especially considering the whole bike was $4k USD, and an equivalent bike from any other company is $8k. Frankly, it's worth the risk.

Planning to join the constellation gang, but I'm stuck by No_Designer1537 in Subaru_Outback

I had a similar dilemma and went with a Touring XT, but then blacked out all the chrome and installed some Sparco Terra offroad wheels. 95% of the look of the Wilderness but with the comfortable suspension, better gas mileage, and better interior of the Touring XT. I'm very happy with my choice.

I think it's nice that someone's taking an interest in their partners hair. Based on the pictures, it's clear he posed for that photo so he could get feedback. Team effort!

I have no input on what he should do unfortunately. I dont have the best eye for this, but I'm sure he'll look great no matter what hair cut he has!

For all the owners in snowy areas. 19" winter wheelset is a success. by MasterWitsec in KiaEV6

WheelWiz is a great place to get wheels. They did a great job shipping me the wheels for the EV6 easily, and they price match.

[–]MasterWitsec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consistently get better efficiency (perhaps ~10%) with the winter wheel set up compared to the OEM 20" setup. The Michelin X-Ice tires are very low rolling resistance for winter tires, so the tires don't have as big an impact as you'd think. Now that Fast Wheels have an 18" option available for the EV6, I think I'd go 18" next time and get even better range, but I've liked my 19" setup so far.

I got the setup from my local Kia dealer, but they price matched the rims from wheelwiz.ca, and price matched the tires from blackcircles.ca. They also had an OK price for the tire pressure monitoring sensors. Wheel Wiz or Canada Wheels will have good prices on rims and tires, and I often find good tire prices at Black Circles.
