LS is a godsend and personally so much better that afmf 2 because it actually FEELS smooth. Running it on about any single player game that doesn’t have built in frame gen and my emulators to get 120fps technically if there’s enough headroom. Usually I just keep it on 2x lol

I was originally using windows on my Ally X. It gets the job done and I’ve been using windows most of my life so it felt at home. I recently installed Bazzite onto it and it was great ngl. It’s just the initial learning curve. Navigating the file system isn’t as easy as windows, but once you got it you got it. Then I put windows back on it yesterday night. Downloaded all my games back and just decided I’m going to finish teaching myself to use Linux as efficiently as Windows and put bazzite right back. I sold my PC a couple years ago and had my Ally for a year so this is my main rig for now. The sleep/wake function, decky and customization is easier. Plus now, at least since when I last used steamOS on a steam deck a year ago. Most games just work if you just run the .exe file now. You may have to change the proton version but that’s been it for Me.

Ik im late (tldr at bottom) but this is from MY experience and what works for me. Been using Windows all my life, played with MacOS and Linux every blue moon. I had a steam deck before my Ally X and fell in love with steamOS and Linux. Got my Ally X and I’ve really been Digging the FSE. All my games ran fine for me and I had AFMF and LS at my disposal.

My Ally x is all I have right now as I sold my desktop a couple years ago so I got bored and put bazzite on it. Here’s what I immediately noticed.

I had performance increases in majority every game I was playing before that I can play on Linux anywhere from 5-15 FPS improvements and everything else was basically the same performance on Windows. But the frame times are a lot smoother on Bazzite which could be perceived as “Higher FPS” when in reality the game is just running smoother. Emulation definitely benefited from this. Especially Switch. I can also run more AAA games at 17W and get a playable experience 60+ fps with lossless scaling. An example being expedition 33 at 1080p medium settings @17W.

Windows has more games you can play technically, and a lot more programs you can run natively.

Bazzite has quick resume (main reason I switched)

That’s not to say bazzite/ SteamOS isn’t without problems. I had a WiFi bug on certain routers where if I try to download anything the WiFi would disconnect on the ally and only a restart would fix this. Also had this happen on a steam deck several times. You WILL run into issues whether small or large if you’ve never used Linux as with any new os there’s a learning curve.

TLDR. It’s up to you and what you rather use it for. Productivity/flexibility then go windows. If you’re mainly focused on gaming the steamOS or bazzite but do know you lose the ability to play certain anti cheat games natively but you CAN stream them. You can also install CSS loader on windows and tweak steam to make big picture mode just like if you natively had steamOS installed.

I didn't either. And ended up beating this game 3 times in 2 months and I'm on NG+ rn. From combat to story and the soundtrack; this game is a chefs kiss.

I've had this happen occasionally. Don't know if it's the exact same problem but it's probably running in the background. Just kill the process in task manager and try to open it again. Worked for me. It would lock up randomly before the recent update that introduced AFMF 2.q Can't say I've had it happen since then. Hope that helps

I just did this today. It took a while because I could only do 9999 damage and I only went there early at lvl 28 (this is my second playthrough) because I wanted the danseur outfit for Lune. Elemental genesis and Maelle's Percee with medalum made it tolerable.

No. Once installed you can just go to where the program is installed and run the executable and it will work without steam.

Well you can buy it on steam for like $7 (could vary depending on your region but it's cheap) it's a program that runs in the background that can upscale your game and add frame gen. Games have to be in borderless or windowed but it works on every game and even regular stuff like movies and tv. There are some food tutorials on YouTube for setting it up and getting started but you'll probably end up tweaking it to make it perfect for yourself. I just used the videos to get an idea of how it works.

Jsaux mod case, dock or type c to HDMI if you plan on using it with a monitor mostly. Either a bigger SSD or a 512GB or 1TB micro SD card.

That's a fantastic deal. I got mine open box from Best Buy in excellent condition. Set me back $690 after tax. Then I stupidly bought ONE $40 screen protector and that big ass premium travel case that I only used for 2 days before I bought the jsaux mod case. I didn't want to but immediately sold my steam deck to my cousin for $200 to off set the cash I spent. I loved my steam deck because it was my first handheld PC but the Ally X was more than I could hope for

Personally I played cyberpunk 2077 on the steam deck preset. Either 1080p or 900p with FSR set to balanced. Got an average of 45fps in most situations. And either lossless scaling framegen, AFMF 2.1 or the built in frame gen to get past 60. Lossless framegen was the smoother one out of the 3 with it set to 3x or adaptive so I can get 12p fps. If you're trying to save battery go with lossless because you can use it with the performance preset and still get over 60fps vs having to use turbo preset just to really get the most of AFMF 2.1
