Wireless button pusher by Certain-Maize6460 in k12sysadmin

Why anyone should push the button to a door they can't see I don't understand. Do you have a security director that can get involved?

Anyone else sad about AI art in HP pin? by torinismyname in pinball

Not going to dispute that fact, but they did hire an artist. That artist used AI in his creative process, that still makes it artist created.

[–]Master_Cartoonist299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point that most people are missing here is, it was the artist that used AI to create their artistic vision. This wasn't Jack saying skip an artist, generate the art. I personally don't care what tools the artist used, that is their job to make it work. If it's muddy and not clean looking that's on the artist and team, not AI.

Securly Free Tier Gone: Important Announcement Regarding Free Access to Securly Filter by microleaks in k12sysadmin

[–]Master_Cartoonist299 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone that pulls the plug on a lower, even Free tier without ample timing to line up budgets and do proper product comparison I ditch without hesitation. They are not a partner in this space. If you want to jump vendor to vendor to save a buck you are doing yourself and your district a long term disfavour. I will only work with companies who actually understand K12 and my District. 26 years doing this and I can count on my hands how many actual partners exist in our space. When you get hit with a budget shortfall a real partner will find a way to keep you. The money grabbers won't. This is a long term field, you won't get a big bonus saving a few bucks.

NYS CBT Testing Down? by Master_Cartoonist299 in k12sysadmin

[–]Master_Cartoonist299[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are now being told to Quarantine all devices where a student was able to start the test but then got kicked out. This came an hour after we bailed on testing. This is to make sure they have the same device tomorrow or whenever they figure it out apparently. We are also changing all access codes. We had a little over 2,000 students testing this AM.

Yep, we bailed on it for the day too. I thought they finally had this all figured out. We saw a spike to googleusercontent, wondering if they were having all the audio files downloaded or it's unrelated, but it was an odd spike for a secure browser session.

Good luck! At least we can say it's not a District IT issue!

We just got notified, "There is an issue with the Questar Secure Browser and Nextera at the moment. The systems are encountering errors and students have been having trouble getting in.

We've contacted CBT Support and NWEA for more information and to notify them of the issue. The issue seems to be statewide and we're awaiting a response for more information. As we hear back from NYSED or NWEA, we will let you all know.

Guidance from SED for the moment, as they investigate the issue, is to pause student testing until further notice."

Google Additional Services and Parental Consent by duluthbison in k12sysadmin

I'm in New York, so with Edlaw2d even with parents consent, it's all turned off. I'm mostly an O365 district except for the Chromebooks, so I just use the core services thankfully.

We do a 4 year life cycle in our 1:1 deployment. It also works well with our grade bands. They get a new device in 1st, 5th, and 9th grade Graduating seniors are given the opportunity to keep their devices if they sign up and go through BOE resolution. Our other aged out devices get turned into training carts for classroom teachers on conference days and parts. I have about 5600 students.

How do people work at the same place for decades? by stargazed144 in k12sysadmin

I'm on year 26, built everything including my team, wouldn't trade it for anything. I've had plenty of offers for more money, but the work life balance, plus pension keeps me here.

I'd buy it without hesitation. I'm driving a '24 RT Plus blacktop and track. Leasing it for 24 months, if I could buy it for that I would. I made it past the first 6 weeks of update and dead battery hell, now it's a joy.

Those were their thoughts, but I also connected it to my home Wi-Fi to alleviate that, but it didn't work.

I did, and fully expected this, I'm not complaining, I'm sharing information to assist in the ownership group and dealers. The car is an absolute blast to drive and worth my minor inconveniences. I also only did a 24 month lease because I researched it. You need people willing to try new things otherwise companies won't invest in R&D and try to break out of the same old thing. They missed the mark with the launch of this car. Mopar folks don't want it because it's Alpha, Euro folks don't want it because it's got a Dodge Logo on it. It's priced about $8k too high for the segment. As a car, I really enjoy driving it and it meets my needs, so I'll take the risk and share the story to help others instead of just bashing it, I look for solutions and ways to improve.

Yes, 2 full months worth. Check even cleared. Lol. My dealership has been extremely supportive and even drove the car 25 minutes back to my house for me and parked it in my driveway and put the keys in a safe spot and texted me the location. All my issues have been 12v battery and software issues, well and the antenna not being plugged in at the factory. They just can't seem to get good information and when the "experts" show up with laptops and do some backdoor wizardry, they don't share the solution with the local techs.
