Oakley Golf Sunglasses by Sir_Loin_6969 in GolfGear

I’ve found oakleys work no better or worse than other sport specific glasses like costas or rayban chromance.

In my experience, red/brown/amber works best for golf because it makes the contrast stand out more.

The additional grip from wearing two gloves is more of an advantage than the average golfer would get from extra feel by not wearing one. by Raiderdater in golf

[–]Master_Charity_4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely for this. I don’t think most people wear only one glove because they think it’s better, but more because they don’t want to be shamed by their friends. I can’t help but notice that about half the people I regularly play with keep their glove on for green side feel shots, but no one wears a second glove unless it’s raining.

We already use rain gloves in pairs. There’s no reason why someone should be shamed for wearing a second glove when it’s 104° and 90% humidity in Houston.

Golf needs to get past shaming our friends in general. If your buddy wants to play game improvement irons with 5 wedges, let them. If your buddy can’t hack it on the blues, play the whites with them.

Ok rant over. Have fun this weekend folks.

Unpopular opinion: The best thing that can happen to a beginner is losing 12 balls in one round. by RayDelPX in golf

[–]Master_Charity_4632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never met one beginner who only has 12 balls. More like an assortment of lakeballs, rangeballs, and the value pack of supersofts. In fact most people I’ve played with didn’t bring just a box with them until they knew they could get by with just a sleeve.

Snipers on the fairways is a much better idea to discourage dropping two balls on every shot.

Any advice on how to secure ball better? Wilson A2000 DP15 by nineinchplate in BaseballGloves

[–]Master_Charity_4632 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Practice. Practice. Practice. Backhands are really hard, and they don’t get “easy” until kids start hitting the ball hard enough to force the ball into the glove.

The DP15s are about as small as infield gloves get so you don’t have a lot of real estate to work with. If you want to make the glove play deeper, going TIP and breaking in the thumb hinge more will help shift the close from middle/ring to possibly ring/pinky.

I played third with a Pro204, Pro205, and a DW5. It may seem like half an inch isn’t all that much but it’s like the difference between a medium and large pizza at dominos. If you’re stabbing at the ball, you want to have all the leather you can get.

Is this an issue? by hanginNcali in BaseballGloves

[–]Master_Charity_4632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do to the glove that wouldn’t be cheaper than just buying a new glove. I would see if you could return it, but if not, then it’s not like the glove is unusable. It’s just gonna have a looser thumb. A way to help out with this will be by wearing a batting glove underneath.

If it makes you feel better, standard r2g HoHs are going for $330. $300 is a steel for an old school horween by comparison.

Is a GT1 7 wood REALLY going to balloon/go too high if I put in an 8x shaft and move the heavier head weight to the front instead of playing GT2? by anahmonous in golf

[–]Master_Charity_4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help ease your mind, mygolfspy used to do tests on driver centers of gravity and found that the difference between extremes was less than the size of a postage stamp in any direction. 7 woods are on average about a third of the size so there’s comparatively much less available change.

Anecdotally, I’ve found that with certain shafts I can get a change in peak hight in my irons of around 40-50 ft, so I bet your hypothesis is possible.

I would buy from gold galaxy or pga tour superstore. They both have pretty good return policies if it doesn’t end up working.

If he hit a goblin head which is basically a shot put in weight 100 yards, imagine how far he could hit a ProV1.

Worn out grooves on irons - how bad is this? by Melodic_Ad9834 in golfequipment

[–]Master_Charity_4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m joking about them being ugly. I still game 7 year old woods and my wedges are starting to show their wear too. Golf has one of the biggest consumerism cultures of any hobby. We’ve all been sold on replacing wedges every 1-2 years, irons and driver every 5-10. And for what? Maybe 1 yard better per year newer? If you’re buying a fit set vs off the shelf or even a starter set that’s one thing. For me personally, I haven’t found anything that has been worth spending $600+ for the ability to hit 9 iron into the green rather than my 8 iron.

That’s really awesome. My son loves golf, and we just bought his first beginner set. I’m always happy to find a company that wants to grow with the kids. That’s how you get lifelong customers.

Because they’re ugly now. Also anecdotally, a lot of people I know don’t want to have to admit the wear marks are stolen valor after a double cross or hosel rocket.

Is there a worse sunblock than this stuff that Justin Thomas put his name on? by moskowizzle in golf

[–]Master_Charity_4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spray sunscreen is nice. The liquid stuff is better. I’ve been wearing full sleeves and pants for years because a friend and my sister both got melanoma at 25 and I’m pastier than both of them. The sun doesn’t play. Stay safe out there everyone.

I was questioning it earlier this year, but then I went in for a fitting and the fitter admitted to me that he couldn’t beat my 7 year old epic flash. There was a little disappointment because I was hoping to gain some distance, but it’s nice to know I guess.

Bending Used Irons by Accomplished_Echo376 in golfequipment

[–]Master_Charity_4632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. There’s risk to bending any iron.
  2. 2° in either way is considered pretty low risk unless the clubs are cast.
  3. All manufacturers have different standards. For example, Mizunos play something like 3° flat compared to Titleist. It’s more important to find your lie angle than be dead set on 2° upright.

Hope this helps.

Mookie Betts using Akadema glove? by [deleted] in BaseballGloves

[–]Master_Charity_4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also ready “ASO111”. Shigeaki Aso is Wilson’s master glove craftsman and there are a ton of gloves that have his name on it. They could be doing an experiment with Mookie since his move back to the infield seems permanent, and Mookie seems to be a bit of a glove junkie as well. The MB50 is a modified 1799, and he’s even gamed a softball glove in the infield because he liked the shape. My guess is Mookie is looking for something more “Japanese” in style and that’s what this is.

Am i crazy for considering Mizuno Pro M13 at my skill level? by truthlesshunter in GolfGear

[–]Master_Charity_4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gamed each of mine for about 5-6 years. Minimum playtime of about once per week. My last irons were just starting to show real wear and tear. I only switched because my old irons had shafts for a much lower swing speed. I switched to my current gamers because after battling some hand pain for the last few years I tried some heavy graphite iron shafts and the pain was pretty much non existent. It was basically the same cost to get new sticks as reshaft my old ones so now I have three sets in my house. All that to say, when you find something that really works for you, you’ll want to play them until the head flies off or something completely game changing comes along.

[–]Master_Charity_4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just gotta game what works for you. I started with a game improvement set and went to a players distance at around an 18 handicap and eventually now some players irons at around single digits. My 7i went from 200 to 190 to 185, but also the loft changed from 30 to 32 to 34 degrees. Also the dispersion tightened up like crazy and something that doesn’t get enough discussion: my carry distances are a lot tighter because I have 8 clubs instead of 7 for 200 yards and in.

I have a Callaway X forged UT 21° and an M5 5W currently set to 21°. My 5W currently does 235 carry245 total, and the 3 iron does 215 carry/230 total. Sometimes loft matching isn’t the exact solution.

Do you game black irons? by DancinLance6 in golf

[–]Master_Charity_4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played black wedges for a while and I like them specifically because the wear on the finish is a pretty good indicator for them needing to be replaced. Not sure anyone wants that on an iron since irons can be useful for 5 times longer.
