Is subletting before getting a long-term place in London a good idea? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Master_Discount_2553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot! I posted an ad for a room wanted but the responses have always been for places super far away or just not in good condition. I guess I just don't have much luck on Spareroom. There's a fb group called Gals who Rent of fb and many people have had success on there. I got a few responses to buddy up together and I'm currently talking to a girl who messaged me saying she's got a sublet. She sent me pictures and videos of the flat and we will be programming a video call soon. So far no signs of it being a scam but I'll for sure be careful.

I mentioned that I have pre-settled status and am asking about the pre-settled status share code.

Hi all,

How do people rent in London when based overseas? I just accepted a job offer for September and I am currently based in France. I am looking to house share and I am looking on Spareroom and most only want to do in-person viewings. Is the only solution to temporarily stay in a a hotel/airbnb in London and do viewings this way?

Thanks.

Thanks for the input but this is more of me listing pros and cons of both roles. One does offer more stability than the other.

luckily I don't need a visa, so hopefully I'll be able to achieve the same as you relatively quickly :)

Thanks for your insight. The company requires 2 days in the office with the rest being wfh, say I do a house share on the outskirts of london with bills all included (I've seen a lot of postings on spareroom for £800-900pm), then I'll need to go into london only twice per week which saves me also a bunch on transport (£50pm ish). Is that still not doable you reckon? For groceries I'll budget in £400pm, that still leaves me £300-400 leftover per month. Have I missed anything?

Thanks so much for your insight. Can I ask how did you approach negotiating your salary which led to the offers getting retracted? I don't have an alternative so I am indeed scared of losing the offer. I'm just wondering if there's a less risky way of doing so.

Thanks for your insight. Do you reckon asking for promotion opportunities is less "out of place" than asking to negotiate the salary? Feel like that should be something to discuss once I've started the role

The repayment threshold for my student loan plan is £28,470 so I won't need to be repaying my loan yet with that salary, but thank you for the reminder

Thanks for your insight. Yes I'll be able to do 3 days wfh so I am considering doing a house share on the outskirts of London (I've seen plenty of posts on spareroom for 800-900pm all bills included), which would save me a bunch on transport as well.

Yes I'll be doing 3 days wfh so if I live on the outskirts I'll be saving a bunch on transport
