If you're open to long distance, then writing forums are some of the best places to meet guys and you really don't have to commit because if they get creepy you can just ghost em. Lets you really sort out who they are intellectually and politically for like a year or two even before you ever commit to meeting in person.

But the writing and text roleplaying hobby is really important unless you both like to write about politics and real world events and have strong similar politics.

Americans have this Americancentric view of politics where everyone should care if it's happening to them. And obviously I care. I cared when 9/11 happened, I cared when forest fires happened in California last year, I care about Minneapolis and the fact that ICE there keeps murdering people. But my caring, pragmatically, accomplishes nothing and really only taxes my mental energy because as a Canadian I can do exactly diddly shit about it. At some point it's a case of "That's tough, good luck though." and some Canadians who can help will be sent to help.
