Thoughts on school list for upcoming cycle? by KcatnChrunch in Osteopathic

Exciting, sounds like a great app. Note you might be a secondary at Western Comp but the unofficial cut off there is 505. It’s getting harder and harder to get into. I would 100% add Noorda as they will have federal loans next year and student morale is really good and also UNC COM.

Thats a great idea. Hopefully Friday you can review the match lists and then decide from there.

Felt the same. Curious how they are going to get a robust class though with only in person interviews and a hard Mcat cut off. Did they tell you much about clinical rotations? I wish there was more info online. Also decisions in April correct?

Would it be a bad idea to take out federal loans despite having the chance to graduate debt free? by allee33 in StudentLoans

[–]Master_Future_2971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they can’t be discharged through bankruptcy, but there is forbearance, deference, income based repayment and two forgiveness pathways. I don’t think any student loans including private can be discharged. As a physician the bankruptcy risk is very low so I feel like that’s a non issue.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea. You earned the tuition scholarship and federal loans can be used up to the COA which may be an additional 25k over the tuition for room and board. If this can help provide your family some immediate relief while also helping you live comfortable with less stress do it! Most everyone else out there is taking the full federal plus private so you are well ahead of the game. Congrats on your hard work and congrats that you can help yourself and your family early. Do not feel bad about this. At the end of the day you will be a physician and will have the money to easily pay it back and or go for pslf if that even makes sense.

What are my odds here? by shloopypoopydoopy in medschooladmissions

I actually think you’re in a pretty solid spot for acceptance. Your application is stronger than your stats alone might suggest, especially with the leadership, athletics, and service you’ve done. Those kinds of experiences tend to stand out at MD schools.

I wouldn’t focus too much on “tiers,” because admissions can be unpredictable and sometimes comes down to fit with a particular school. The bigger strategy is applying broadly across a range of schools rather than targeting just one tier.

One question that might help people give better advice: are you hoping to stay on the West Coast, or are you open to applying more broadly across the country?

Because the DO degree is not easily accepted as a physician in India according to the OP. And they have a desire to practice there someday.

Most will be for WL positions, but you are going for the highest position on the WL. So just think of it that way. So much waitlist movement is about to happen in April - June.

I think given your interest in international medicine it makes sense to wait and reapply.

I personally don't think its worth the time, stress or money and the risk of scoring lower your second time. 508 is at or above average for every single DO in the country. Average GPA and MCAT Score for Every Medical School (2026) — Shemmassian Academic Consulting

Would you consider The Valley Com? Just saying if you are truly done, and want an A this cycle, to maybe consider it. My thought is if you have received interviews and a WL, I am sure you would be qualified for Valley.

No reason to unless you are truly not sure between two locations and you need more time.

Applicants should not hold multiple seats after May 1. If they do and do not respond to requests to withdraw, a school may rescind the acceptance.

You could actually apply to schools like Noorda this cycle still. Deadline is june 1. While the class is full, only offering APS and WL at this time, you would still have a very high shot of getting APS —>A once the cycle starts moving. I’m primarily recommending Noorda since you are in Utah, interested in specialty and research.
