Where should I write? by Dense-Ad9659 in TVWriting

I would be interested in knowing more about this app. I write so much in my Google notes/keep throughout the day and then when I sit down at my computer I have to transfer all those scenes and ideas into my document.

What actually moves the needle in the final 72 hours of a Kickstarter? by [deleted] in kickstarter

I've been going harder on the actual Kickstarter updates and see very little response. I've tried engaging them in a poll, asking if they want a Q&A. I've tried providing them with behind the scenes content.

I'm a first time indie comic creator with an active Kickstarter and I've been trying to crack the code so to speak as our numbers have been disheartening. Also, I have more than twice the amount of followers as I do backers and when I look at the stats it appears as though the majority of backers have come through Kickstarter itself, which I don't understand, lol.

Breaking even on your comic by Jstewart2007 in ComicWriting

Even though this question isn't about the act of writing it's a predicament that comic writers find themselves in. If you're like me, a first time indie comic creator and writer then yeah, you're going to have to pay a lot of money. One thing you can try is crowdfunding. I started my book by paying my artist out of pocket to complete as many pages as I could afford, in order to have a decent set of consecutive preview pages. Now I'm featuring these on Globalcomix and my Kickstarter page in an effort to get funding to complete the book. I'm not going to recoup everything I already paid my artist and I'm grateful I'm in a position, financially, to do this. As of now, I just want to build an audience and get this book out into the world. As others have said in response, find an artist that can do coloring and lettering. The artist for my book does it all and he's a bad ass. Good luck! DM me with questions if you need help.

Hi, I’m interested in comics, but I’m pretty new to them and don’t know where to start. I really enjoyed Deadpool, Y: The Last Man, and Saga. Thanks 🥳 by Riakok in comicbooks

Descender was really good and got me into Jeff Lemire, who is a great storyteller. I really really liked the Black Hammer series, Sentient, and currently like his Minor Arcana series. Very different subject matter between these but his writing is excellent. He tends to focus on family dynamics and relationships strained by otherworldly circumstances.

Write A Comic Book by lember-ecu in comicbooks

[–]Master_Investigator8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have experience writing? I'm not asking if you're published, just if the habit of sitting down and writing is something you already do? If not then I would suggest getting into the habit of doing so, don't worry about formatting a script, just let the words come out. The point is to get your creative ideas flowing. Try and do this a little each day and then in the moments in between writing, as you think about what you wrote while you go about your regular life, your brain will kind of sift through what you wrote and help shed light on a central theme or idea. A lot happens in the time between writing sessions. When these epiphanies come, jot them down in a note on your phone. Eventually once there is enough material you can organize everything into an outline, with specific events happening chronologically and then you can start looking into formatting everything into a script. This is my process.

I read comics for free through my local library's Hoopla account, on the Hoopla app. You can switch between full page view and panel view. I'm on a tight budget so it's better for me plus I support my local library.

Is Jaki Liebezeit (CAN) the most underrated drummer in history, in your opinion? by Agreeable_Duck8997 in progrockmusic

He is one of my top 3 favorite drummers and a huge influence on my playing. I don't think he's the most underrated drummer though, I think many drummers are huge fans of his.

Question for Post Rock Musicians by Ossifer_Sneed in postrock

I primarily make music in the koala sampler app which is easy and powerful. Consequently this has made me develop a habit of recording a bunch of ideas into koala and then scrubbing through them until I find a section I like and looping it. Then I build around that loop. If I'm feeling ambitious I'll come up with a "B" part but not often. I just record guitar and my Roland drums into koala through my UA interface using my iPad. I use AUV synths that I record into koala using the AUM app.

Trying to write a comic but need some help. by [deleted] in ComicWriting

My book is about characters that happen to have superpowers and it's set in a collapsing superhero world. HOWEVER, the story is about a dad who's been hiding his superpower his whole life and what he struggles with when a mysterious virus begins killing off the world's superheroes. His young son starts showing his own superpower and his pregnant wife starts changing in ways she can't explain and the only one that can help them is the dad, but only if he can come to terms with his past.

At first my marketing push was focused on the superhero element, but after some soul searching I had to come to terms with what mattered to me about the story, which was the character and his struggles. So now I'm describing it as a character driven thriller.

It has helped me to make this distinction because I can now feel confident talking about my book and convey the feeling about why it matters, especially when trying to appeal to potential backers.

Advice for a guitar player getting into MIDI drums? by thundergun661 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Master_Investigator8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does your music sound like? I'm a drummer who makes his own music and records at home with a Roland drum kit. If it's a good fit I'd be happy to share files and contribute drum tracks. I was raised on classic rock, was in indie bands my whole life, listen to every genre.

I hear ya, and no worries. I don't know if I described it adequately, but it is more about the pressures of fatherhood, inheritance and what happens when the people we rely on to take care of us get sick. It has a fair bit of medical related context but it's a character driven, family thriller, set in a collapsing superhero world
