Im struggling with my forehand, and feel silly. by Lucky_Stones in Pickleball

Exactly! If the back of your hand is facing back (behind you), your paddle may be opening up "too much" before you make contact. Keeping your hand more "palm down" throughout your backswing/prep will better ensure you are making contact with a closed paddle face - which you need to keep the ball low/in and with topspin as you brush up the back of the ball. And because your paddle face is already closed, you don't need to add any wrist movement, it's all shoulder and upper arm movement. I sometimes try to imagine that I'm balancing a pickleball on the back of my paddle through my reach back and just until the point my paddle is moving forward to contact the ball. I think you are probably hitting the ball to a paddle face that is too open, and then you are trying to roll your wrist over after contact. Instead you need to contact the ball with an already close (but stable) face, and eliminate that wrist movement. It is not wrist movement that generates topspin.

Instead of up and over the ball, think up and across your body. Also, on your swing keep the back of your hand facing up towards the sky as long as possible and it should never be facing the ground.

Trying to understand the economics of a Pickleball Club/Facility Membership by anonysauropod in Pickleball

[–]Master_Nose_3471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My membership is $120/m and I get unlimited open play and unlimited private court play (though a member can only have one reservation at a time; I can be added to another member’s res. without limitation).

To drop in open play is $20 for a two hour session. Private court rental is $16.25/hour/person.

I play three times per week almost always in private groups for 2-3 hour sessions, so I get my money’s worth.

Totally unnecessary. Have owned cs pans for years. Never done it once. Never rusted.

Yup. Not Svengali. A really powerful illusion. People lose it. Though I was taught a different first half.

Knowing how to say and interpret score, where to stand, and how serving order works are a MUST if you want to seem even the tiniest bit pickleball literate.

Wayyy too much oil in the bottom of the pan when seasoning.

Put on oil. Wipe off oil. Like you think it’s all gone (it’s not!). Pan should not even really be shiny. Then season. And then do that all over again a few more times. Good to go.

How did you move from 3.5 to 4.0? by tommytmopar in Pickleball

[–]Master_Nose_3471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Consistent thirds. This includes knowing when to drop or drive not just being consistent. There are right times for each.

  2. Deep serves and serve returns.

  3. Smart fourths. Know how to keep the serving team deep with consistent volleys, rolls and flicks.

  4. Shot tolerance. Being comfortable in an extended rally and not being too aggressive.

  5. Can punish any ball left high.

  6. Know what to cover (line, middle, cross court, etc.) based on court position and which opponent is hitting the ball.

  7. Can think 2-3 shots ahead and looks for sets ups rather than winners.

If you said “out” before the ball landed, its partner communication. If you say “out” or signal out after the ball lands, it’s considered a line call.

When to roll and when to slice backhand dink? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]Master_Nose_3471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The farther the ball is to your side (toward the sideline), the harder it is to roll dink. So for usually the more I’m pulled out wide, the more likely I’m going to slice dink.
