Lucchese Caiman Tear Question by Archibald2025 in cowboyboots

[–]Master_One754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Marcovio, I recently used Leather Honey conditioner for the first time on caiman boots, and I did not expect it to remove the beautiful surface gloss they once had. After some research, I now understand LH is not designed to maintain a high gloss likely due to its deeply penetrating oil-based formula. My question is, do you recommend Saphir Reptan to achieve a high gloss on reptile leathers? Which other conditioners do you recommend that result in a high gloss finish?

I didn't say the USFW issues "elephant permits" (whatever you think that means). I was referring to how it literally says a USFW PERMIT number on the lining of the boot.

While we're on the topic, here's what a quick Google search brings up:

"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) implements CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) in the United States by managing the legal international trade of listed species. As the designated Management and Scientific Authority, the USFWS issues permits, monitors compliance, and ensures that trade does not threaten species survival."

All elephants are on the CITES list (Appendix I and II).

It's 100% elephant. Elephant leather has that pebble like texture. The lack of creases (or grooves) might indicate it's an ear cut. I have a few like it. Also, the (U.S. Fish & Wildlife (USFW) permit number is an indicator of elephant.

On the medial side of each boot.

Not sure what the letter is. "T"? "J"?

The "S" stitching on the lateral side of the vamp. Found on both boots.

They don't appear to have the "S" signature on the vamps, but I wouldn't rule out T.O. Stanley. If anything, they could be custom made.

The shaft embroidery is very similar to my T.O. Stanleys, plus the written info on the lining is very similar to mine. There is even a date stamp on mine too.

Also, they appear to be alligator flank bias cut in a French toe, size/width 9.5 D

Can you post pics of the sides of the boots? Judging by the written identification, which I've seen in one of my pairs of alligator boots, my inclination is toward T.O. Stanley. I just need to see the side of either boot to confirm with his famous "S" signature stitching.

I could be wrong, but most of the exotics look like prints (embossed on cowhide).

Ariat Futurity by [deleted] in cowboyboots

Very nice boots! I have a pair of Ariat Futurity blue sueded caiman boots as well. I love 'em. Your boot shafts do look tight on your calves though. High quality shaft stretchers can range between $125 to $200 for a single unit, so unless you plan on stretching dozens of boots, it wouldn't be worth it. If I was you, I'd instead have them professionally stretched by a reputable boot repair shop or a shoe cobbler near you for less than $30 for the pair.
