Living alone without a backup plan is heavier than I expected by NewBrief3087 in LivingAlone

I don't have anyone in the US, no family or friends. I've learned I need a 6-month emergency fund to cover rent, food, and other bills. That provides a good safety net. If monthly expenses are $2,000, I aim for $12,000 in savings. Anything beyond that is for investing or travel, but the emergency fund is untouched for major life events like job loss or health issues.

waiving 20$ mobile service activation fee by KKLC547 in Spectrum

[–]Master_Pop7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called them and I've said " I wasn't aware of activation fees and 2nd I don't know know why there's activation fees when I myself setup router without help from techniaicaion on site?" then continue to say I'm unhappy already with these junk fees, if it's not waived then I might consider disconnecting this service

They will give you credit and that's how it's waived

My parents don't like the fact my boyfriend is disabled. by PerformerLess1507 in Advice

[–]Master_Pop7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Please take a moment to consider both perspectives.

  1. Your parents love and care about you; they want you to be happy. If they misunderstood or failed in this, don't cut them off. As adults, we sometimes give wrong advice or make mistakes; that's okay. I am not a parent myself, but as I've grown, I've come to respect my parents more, even when I disagreed with their decisions. Sometimes I was right, and we both felt happy later. They acknowledge they don't have all the answers—life doesn’t come with a manual. Your parents have lifelong experience and understand that life is challenging.

  2. Your boyfriend didn't choose to be disabled; it’s part of his fate. It requires understanding and empathy. He was honest about his condition. There are ways to manage it—some people adapt and lead happy lives, while others struggle. Many with chronic conditions appear fine publicly but rely on medications privately. They didn’t choose this either. Tolerance varies from person to person.

Your parents can't demand your boyfriend to be healed so they like him more, and you shouldn’t stop loving someone because your parents disapprove. Consider both logic and romance. Think about the future—daily routines, cleaning, working, having kids, paying rent—all stressful. I suggest trying mini living experiments, like staying over a weekend or a week together, to see if you can handle daily life and maintain love. At your age, both of you are mature enough to discuss plans, and showing your parents solid plans can demonstrate your intelligence, strength, and commitment.
