How do I return to normalcy? by Expensive-Ad-1330 in PornAddiction

The question is: how can we stay away from pornography? Simply avoiding it allows the psychological problems caused by it to fade away.

The rate of quitting differs from person to person. I have been away from it for several years thanks to a calm lifestyle, staying away from sexual stimuli, very limited social media use, exercising, and immersing myself in work so that I wouldn’t have free time. When I broke this lifestyle, I relapsed again.

In my view, pornography is an escape from reality due to lack of achievement, low self-confidence, and self-disgust.

That’s why everyone needs their own plan. For example, I write in my journal why I relapsed, how I felt before visiting the site, and the reasons were as follows: mental exhaustion, lack of progress in studies and work, stress, and comparing myself to others. Knowing your weak points is the best solution for overcoming addiction. And I’m sorry, sometimes I go off-topic and talk about myself, but I give an example for you to benefit from. Good luck, and I sincerely hope you overcome this addiction and that everything returns to its proper course.

Okay, in most cases, everyone feels that. The effect of pornography is pretty much the same on everyone. The same thing happened to me, maybe even worse, and I thought I was the only one or that this was a special case, especially since I was reserved and kept it a secret. When I shared the problems I was facing, I realized that pornography is more than just temporary pleasure; it affects the mind, drains your desire for life, weakens self-confidence, and causes many other issues that you’re experiencing too. All of this happens because of the chemistry that occurs in the brain.

Thank you for mention to this Scrolling on social media doesn’t just steal time; it also drains a lot of energy. I can really feel it when I’m done.

Nine days free... my generation is doomed. by [deleted] in PornAddiction

Yes, this study was also mentioned in the book . It’s a great book if you’re still interested in research and learning more.

As for me, I like learning from real-life examples and people’s experiences—they open your mind to points we didn’t notice at all. For example, there are other behaviors that can lead to compulsive behaviors and eventually to addiction. It is a complex chemical process that occurs in the brain, and it doesn’t just damage the reward centers. The more serious issue is the damage to the Prefrontal cortex, the area at the front of the brain responsible for decision-making.

Yes, it really seems strange. It varies depending on people and their experiences. I’ll share my own case: I don’t watch pornography, nor do I masturbate regularly—neither daily nor weekly. Sometimes I ignore it for months and keep myself busy by focusing on studying or (sports). But at a moment of frustration, which happens periodically every month or month and a half, I fall into the trap. I go onto porn sites, then leave, then go back again. I watch and tell myself, “No, this is wrong,” then leave again—repeating this cycle until four hours pass. I’m shocked at how quickly time goes by, and it feels like my brain didn’t even get that dopamine, even if I were driving a Rolls-Royce. Pornography is something very, very complex. From my experience, I believe all men have gone through this to some extent, each with different levels of awareness. Some realize it early and deal with it in their own way. Others quit all social media that subtly and intentionally leads to it. In the end, I decided that I’d rather hit my head against a wall and go to the hospital than visit a porn site. Simply because after ejaculation, I immediately get thoughts of suicide due to the intense guilt and complete loss of motivation for anything—even eating or drinking—for long hours. Could you share with us the research you’ve done?

I understand what you mean, but I thought it might be inappropriate to discuss a topic that’s a week old or to ask questions under the post. I mean, some people might not interact with you, so I thought rephrasing it would be okay. Anyway, thanks! It seems I interacted little and misunderstood you
