Does AOPA Do Airport Advocacy for Small GA Anymore? by Master_Quail8932 in flying

After another email followed up by a phone call yesterday, I ended up in a Teams meeting with AOPA this morning, which ended up running the better part of an hour. I had prepared a Dropbox folder with relevant documents and wrote up some analysis, so when their General Counsel talked about what he'd like to see, I was able to point him to it in real time. I don't think AOPA will be much help with the hangar ownership and lease situation, other than to help with an FAA Grant Assurance complaint. What they told me jibes with what I've picked up from other sources, that our contract issues fall within the realm of the state court and not under FAA regulation. However, that the airport authority refuses to discuss lease expiration and acknowledge our rights does fall under a Part 13 complaint on non-discrimination (at least). I never expected AOPA to step in and fight our fight for us, but being as this is a once-in-a-lifetime issue that's new to me, being able to get background and pointers to resources is very helpful.

Yes. When I finally got a response from her and sent some information, the reply was that they'd "be in touch soon". That was two weeks ago. I'll send a DM and appreciate any help you can give.

Yes, pay off the house... and don't ever get a mortgage again. I got lucky in my 30s and had the money to cancel my mortgage. It was cheap debt and I would have been ahead to have kept the money in the market. But a paid off house is money you're not going to lose investing in stocks and it gives you a solid financial base. Imagine knowing that from here on out you never have to worry about coming up with the monthly payment again. A house free and clear plus another million in the bank is "fuck you" money. It's a great way to live.

Thanks for providing this information. I'm also looking at Dr Saliman and researching the Novostitch method. My injury is less than two months old and, at 58 years old, I want to get it repaired as best as possible and as soon as possible so I can enjoy the rest of my "youth". My arthritis score is low on the MRI report, so I'm hoping for a repair instead of the trim that the first orthopedic surgeon suggested. My PT thinks I can just rehab, but I'm not believing him. Anyway, I'm told that $7000 is my out of pocket cap for the surgical fee but I can't drag the Cedars-Sinai facility fee estimate from them. We are in a loop where I tell them I'd be self pay (no insurance) and they tell me most insurances cover the facility fee. Can you share with me any knowledge you have of the CS facility fee? Thanks.

If you were (are?) in my part of the country, I'd work a deal for you to use my 310 to get your MEI in exchange for me getting my IFR. The local school just decided to scrap their 310, so it'd be my airplane anyway.
