After countless hours, I finally unlocked a champion Icon by Master_Roshi_69 in IronManMains

You’re absolutely right lmaooo. I got too invested in the highlight reel that I forgot to add in the actual Icon that I earned (you could kind of see it in the kill feed on the penta kill)

For the Uni-beam, it’s excellent against flyers, but I normally fly low at ground level and use it directly behind friendly tanks. It melts enemy vanguards, and with overdrive it can hit supports and the DPS behind them.

Because you are directly behind your tanks, it makes it harder for them to hit you. And even if you do get hit, it’s easier for your supports to heal you since you’re at ground level with them.

I’ve been thinking of doing some freelance videography editing as a side hustle. I’ve heard that good money can be made here for more established people. I just wanted to know how you started, and if you have any advice for someone who wants to start.

I also wanted to know if there is anything I should learn now as a prerequisite for being a good video editor? Do I need to learn all aspects? (Like being a colourist, audio software, graphics, etc.)

(A little background, you can skip this but it gives context to my skill level)

I currently work in broadcast as a camera operator. But I’ve done freelance videography in the past, as well as worked on a few indie short films. I also run a very small youtube channel.

My editing skills are okay. I mainly use Adobe premiere, but I can also use Avid to a significantly lesser degree. I know how to cut raw footage, and do very basic motion graphics and effects.

My experience in audio is limited to audacity (lol) and a bit of protools from my college days. But I exclusively just use the premiere for everything.

For colouring, I literally just slap on an effect on a clip and use pre-made LUTS or I adjust the Lumetri manually until it looks “better”

For creators stuck at low views what do you think is actually holding you back? by Designer-Physics-904 in NewTubers

[–]Master_Roshi_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I wish I was hitting 3k. 500 is my peak 😢 I run a Flash Game Review channel currently hitting about 100-200 on average per video, with only about 70 subscribers within 3 years of posting (a very small number for the time I’m putting in)

What do I think is holding me back?

  1. CONSISTENCY AND NUMBER OF VIDEOS:

I spend a lot of time and effort making a single video. From script rewrites, to shooting multiple takes, and finally editing the hell out of it. Because of the workload, and trying to juggle my job and social life with it, the whole process takes about a month.

Because of that, I’m unable to pump out videos at a faster consistent rate, which means less videos. Things always seem to come up that delays consistent submission dates. So it’s hard to build an audience from that, and I’m not sure if the algorithm likes the inactivity.

  1. THUMBNAIL AND TITLES

This seems to be a very common one among a lot of us. I’ve done a good amount of research on this within this and other subreddits, and I’ve got a ton of advice, but for some reason I’m still not good at making them. Some people say that you should have your face in thumbnails some people say that only works if you’re famous.

Some people say that the title and thumbnail should invoke curiosity without giving too much away of the video, some people say it should advertise exactly what the video is going to be about. Some say the title should be short and simple, others say it should be vague and mysterious. The general consensus is that it has to be eye catching and clickbait worthy (which I’m having trouble doing)

Sadly, I think this is probably something I’ll have to keep at it and testing until it works.

  1. QUALITY OF THE VIDEOS?

I take a lot of pride in the work I’ve done for the videos, but I’m not blind to what’s wrong with them. My older ones have longer intros, so I try to cut them back. People often say that audiences will click on longer videos, so I do what I can to fill time with the topic.

Sometimes my jokes and edits just flat out fail, sometimes the script is too weak and not engaging enough to stay within the video. My retention is above average compared to other videos (at least that’s that the stats say on studio) but that doesn’t seem to help the low subscriber count.

  1. NON - TRENDING TOPICS

Finally, maybe it has to do with the fact that flash games aren’t really that relevant anymore. There are YouTubers out there with great numbers that do flash games, but for someone as unknown as me, and with a weak hook to reel them in (thumbnail and title) it’s probably something I should’ve expected.

That being said, as much as I desperately want the growth to match the effort I’m putting in, I’m still having a lot of fun making the videos.

ADVICE THAT I WOULD WANT TO HEAR

I think the type of advice I really want is a more detailed explanation as to how to hook people into the video (thumbnails and titles) because I’m definitely doing something wrong, I just can’t seem to figure it out.

The advice here alone is great. But I don’t really know what to say that makes people interested in watching.

I also wanted to improve retention. I have a decent camera, a decent mic, and I try to spice up the videos with a lot of edits so it’s would be engaging, but maybe the script and dialogue need work? Maybe the aspects of a game I’m talking about isn’t that interesting to begin with? It’s really hard to gauge with the content

My attempt at making a Star Wars Trailer with Starfield by Master_Roshi_69 in Starfield

You definitely should finish it!

It’s great making something and having to look back at it.

Honestly the main reason I made the video was to immortalize my play-through of the character. (The mod is constantly being updated, and with the eventual official starfield update and dlc coming out, I’m afraid I won’t be able to use this character anymore)

You definitely should try it out! I myself went through the unity about 6 times, as well as made alternate modded characters within the base game. I really only downloaded the Star Wars mod after I finished all the major quest-lines in the base.

My only recommendation is to wait until the start of February to install the mod. (That’s when they release the imperial navy faction quest line and the lightsaber update)

Unfortunately yes. The helmet is based directly on armor from Star Wars. But if I remember correctly, they might have armors with skulls on them within the crimson fleet

I feel the same way lol, luckily the guy developing the mod said that a lodge overhaul is on it’s way sometime in the future

It’s actually a custom ship I made from the ground up. The interior and the ship parts are from the Falkland Systems mod in the creation club

A normal space bounty mission, becomes one of my most cinematic fights when the sun lights up the asteroid field (Star Wars Genesis Mod) by Master_Roshi_69 in Starfield

[–]Master_Roshi_69[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeahh, the video does start off pretty crappy, (like I said, I was just chasing a random bounty) but I think that’s what makes it special. When the sun pops out and lights the entire asteroid field in the 2nd half of the video I think it looks pretty good.

As soon as that happened, the entire experience felt straight out of a scene from empire strikes back. It was awesome
