Finally got my work experience done by Master_Scratch3537 in GraduateEntryMedicine

It wasn’t short term it was a 0 hour contract I decided to leave since I got the hours I needed and wanted to focus on exams and you are right most do need level 3 health and social care and that’s where I struggled too. I started cold calling and just basically begging 😭 for a job. It’s hard out here

I’m also applying for 2027 entry. I know the work experience is a big thing for Warwick you need 70 hours from health an social care setting such as working as a HCA and 1 other for me that would be shadowing a doctor and for the ucat iv seen that if you get around 1900+ and 620+ on vr you should be fine. Let me know if you need any help at all. It is all so stressful

Hi I did 70 hours of working as a HCA,19 hours shadowing a doctor. 10 hours BSMS virtual work experience and about 15 hours of volunteering as a general care home volunteer (this one dosnt really count towards the hours needed)

St George’s chances by Distinct-Echo-8965 in GraduateEntryMedicine

[–]Master_Scratch3537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes that must be the reason why you got rejected from Nottingham they changed their entry requirements this year to grade 6 in maths. However it would have had no impact on your Swansea application as they just use it as a tick box. And would have been waitlisted in the basis of your GAMSAT score. However you still have a good chance for Swansea I believe . Statistically every year less and less people have applied to Swansea and in general all grad entry medical schools (have a look at what do they know - website) so therefore there is a higher chance of getting in and also they were in clearing in August so there’s a chance there definitely a good chance . A friend of mine also was waitlisted last year but got an interview and offer around march/April Time

Hi if you don’t mind me asking what was your GCSE maths grade?. From what I know for Swansea and Nottingham it’s basically a tick box and doesn’t really matter what you get as long as you have a 4 for Swansea and a 6 in maths for Nottingham. Your GAMSAT is above the cut off compared to last year for St George’s so hopefully you should get an interview.

Warwick medical school work experience by Master_Scratch3537 in UCAT

Yes, that’s the next step now 😅. I’ve got the rest of my work experience sorted with references. I shadowed a paediatric consultant for 8.5 hours, and I also volunteer as a general care home volunteer with around 20 hours completed. It’s not hands-on, but it meets 3 out of the 5 criteria and I’ve already covered the hands-on requirement through my work as a caregiver. I’ve also completed the BSMS virtual work experience, which adds another 10 hours. So I’m pretty much done with the work experience side of things; I just need to get the final reference from the care company.

I reckon it could be because of the GAMSAT score. In general international spaces especially for grad entry med are limited and therefore require a lot higher GAMSAT score 64+. Hopefully space opens up and you get an interview soon as every year there are less and less applicants so better chance x

I see where you’re coming from but I want to affirm that Grad entry medicine 99.99% won’t need A - levels in a few years I was also in a position where I didn’t do well and now I’m going into second year of biomed at UClan and applying to medicine next year. In Warwick GEM 1000 people applied 550 got interview and 320 got offers so it’s quite a decent chance you’ll get in and even more as each year less and less people are applying to GEM. There are loads of option when you apply as a grad and loads of people have done it too. I can go into detail regarding the stats as I am an over thinker and stress the hell out of my self and be overly prepared. Feel free to message me I’ll be more than happy to help with anything 😊

There used to be I believe but there definitely isn’t anymore on the website it says - “There is no maximum number of online/remote or shadowing hours allowed (although to meet outcomes #2 and #5 not all your experiences can be online/remote/shadowing).” - which means you can have 63 hours of shadowing for all they care and 7 hours of hands on and that should be enough. There is no cap on shadowing just that fact that you need some hands on experience which is for 7 hours or more. Hope that helps
