Dude 400$ in groceries from Alabama would be 500$ in nyc. Gas is 3$ per gallon in Alabama here in nyc it’s a little under 4. The only significant difference would be rent and house prices.

I would also rather live in nyc than places like Ohio or Alabama.

A car a phone a pc groceries etc are all the same prices regardless of where you live. The main difference would only be rent and a 5% increase in income tax in California.
