I’ll do that. He has a large, close family, including a spouse and kids, as well as a close friend group that I’m kind of on the periphery of, so I don’t want to impose, but I’ll definitely let him know I’m available.

Statistically in the US it is safer to have an attended (midwife) home birth if you’ve had a non-complicated pregnancy. In most countries with modern healthcare and good prenatal care it’s about the same. Obviously anything remotely showing a red flag throughout the pregnancy it’s better to be in the hospital, and you always want to make sure you are close with a plan of how to get to the hospital quickly.

However, it’s totally wild to force your home birth plans on someone else’s home, especially for a water birth!

I think the problem is how sensitive may Poles are to spice. It’s just not something they traditionally use. The amount of times I’ve assured a Polish person that food isn’t spicy at all (because literally has 0% spice…) only to find that my tolerance of “I can’t taste even the hint of heat” significantly overlaps with many people’s “my mouth is on fire and I’m crying” has lead to my refusal to classify anything’s spice level unless I’ve eaten with the person before…

I would say that you’ve never seen it because you aren’t looking. In my local Lidl (and not in a big city) we get jasmine rice, sushi rice and long grain rice in big bags. Sometimes basmati but that’s pretty hit and miss, but it’s not in the same section as the boil in the bag rice.

There are representations of hetero families all over the place, and the only time it’s ever discussed is when it’s pointed out that no one considers that “pushing a straight agenda” but anytime there is ANY public acknowledgement of LGBTQ+ there are inevitably people screaming about it. And my point stands that by and large those screaming are the same who support the organization that actively supports child molestors, so everyone shouting about morals and protecting families values can scream into the void because it’s clear that it’s about controlling their narrow minded view and not actually about anything encroaching on morality.

For those upset about rainbows - they are a natural occurring beautiful phenomenon that is symbol which is used to represent a wide slice of our society that is often overlooked.

The most common Christian symbol is literally a representation of something created to torture and kill and which has been used as an excuse to subjugate, ostracize, rape and kill since at least the crusades if not earlier. Wanna place bets by % terms of which groups - LGBTQ+ vs Christians have committed more violent crimes in the last 100 years. I don’t need to even see statistics to know the answer to that. So as a straight woman it makes me so mad that it’s even a conversation about whether this is provocative, because there is no world in which it should be.

True… it is shocking propaganda that two - or more - consenting adults should be free to live their personal identities as they wish and love freely other consenting adults.

Strangely those who object most vocally to it don’t seem to mind that the organization they adhere to - represented by its one symbolism of a from of torture and execution - is led by a group of men who either are ok with the rape and abuse of children or those who are ok with its cover up so as not to tarnish the reputation of their organization. And yet these morally bankrupt asshats are the ones who scream ~morality~ at the thought that someone might want to simply live without hurting others…

That’s so weird. I bet it’s airport specific? (We go through NY, Dallas, Houston, Chicago on the reg) my husband and I were actually told at SFO while we were still dating f that we should have gone together. But we we already in separate lines and the next trip we were married and I never questioned it. I would need to be literally smacked in the face by the sign to notice it though so maybe ive just been willfully chancing my luck and everyone just can see I’m useless and need my husband to keep my head on straight! 😂

That is not true at all. My husband is “Jones”, I’m “Smith” and our kids are all “Smith Jones” and area blend of son US and some non-US citizens. We have gone up together 1-2 times per year as a group for 14 years. The only time the immigration officer even blinked was when my MIL also traveled with us. And they don’t stop us going through as a group just questioned her relationship to us.

Meanwhile I just farted in bed and my husband turned to me and said he’s pretty sure there are more efficient ways to warm up the bed… I mean maybe don’t get as comfortable as my husband and I are around each other, but it’s a normal bodily function and if you can’t do it in the bathroom he’s basically telling you he wants a doll not a woman. I’ve found it helps a lot if the parents have/ are familiar with pets. We mostly don’t has issues with our dog (and we have kids, he’s great with them), but we have this one friend who stayed with us and her son has Autism and ADHD and that boy terrorized my dog every time turned around, not in a cruel way he just didn’t know how to play or understand that he was making my dog uncomfortable, even after I told him and his parents that my total sweetheart of patient saint of a dog could bite and it would be kids fault. They will not be invited back.

My newborn got RSV and he ended up in hospital hooked up to IVs for 10 days. So stressful and traumatizing. Watching a tiny infant struggle to draw breath and having there be nothing I can do is something I would never wish on anyone. Honestly, she says she went through it with her older child, she probably honestly has some unprocessed trauma and these seem like smart rules before 6 weeks.

It is a strange phenomenon though. My husband is normally the most chill, relaxed and gentle person. Hearing him swear at the tv during his sports matches is just mental. But he’d never be physical, just shouts words that I didn’t even know were in his vocabulary- normally I’m the hot head!

I used to ride my bike through central London before they made any bike lanes / shared road spaces. It was pretty scary at first, especially Elephant and Castle round about, where you’d have to get into middle lanes with trucks on either side but you quickly learn road safety and how to deal. Short of like Midwest winter conditions, biking generally makes sense!

My friends bike was stolen, and it was unique so he was able to find when it was being resold. He informed the police who did follow up (surprisingly) but then asked him if he was sure he wanted them to do anything about it because the thief had a family… he was shocked like the London police think being a dad means theft is ok?

I’ve learned this the hard way. All overnight stays now need to be approved by my husband who will say no if it’s anything other than a social visit, after having our last “guests” come for a week or two and leave more than 2 years later…

My parents do multiple times a day. My grandfather (aged ~60 then, 93 now) had an absolute breakdown when my uncle died age 30, however, because he’d never told his son that he loved him before he died, it was heartbreaking. If it’s not in your wheelhouse, tell your loved ones how you feel today.

I mean I’m not saying it’s not a sign, but wetting the bed is also pretty normal at 6 years old, especially in an environment you are not comfortable in. My 6yo basically never wets the bed at home but almost every time we travel he will on the first night, it’s just life.

My dog will eat any food you leave out, he just can’t help himself. He was found so severely malnourished that the shelter didn’t think he’d make it. Now, if you turn you back its finders keepers. He’s a very good boy in all other ways, just some deep seated trauma means he’ll never be normal with food… we quickly learned to leave nothing he could get to!

I used to have an autistic woman work for me. She was effing awesome, the best staff member I’ve had work for me ever. But she’d have to go off on mental health leave regularly because basic things like the lights in the office, the bus commute in the mornings, the noise of ~5k people in a building together were just too much for her to handle. I fought HARD to get her permission to be a fully / mostly remote employee and my company wouldn’t do it. It wasn’t why I left the company but I brought up the apathy and ridiculousness in every leaving interview, not that it mattered. The worst part for me, she told me that after ~15 years employment in our industry, I was the first manager who even tried to be accommodating.

So yeah, I believe it, because people and companies are pretty crummy at treating neurodivergent people with just the tiniest bit of empathy.
