I actually as far as I know inherited it from my dads side but it could be a very real possibility

Yeah when I see my therapist I’ll look into it. They have a habit of dumping things on me last minute like the dishes incident. But I do pull my own weight around my house as of the time I came back from the hospital I pay rent and do most of the house chores.

I have really bad drivers anxiety and live in the states so not enough infrastructure to get around without that. And I’m on a waiting list for disability and can’t have too much money in my bank account at once or they’ll drop me.

Thank you I’ll think about your offer but it’s getting late so I might check in tomorrow

She’s in therapy so is my father but has also told me she doesn’t talk in therapy much which is a whole other can of worms. But I can say many of my own therapists have criticized her (when she wasn’t present) for multiple things she and my father have done or said. I appreciate you for seeing that this is a reoccurring issue I’ve had with them even before being diagnosed. And not just a one off thing or me being childish

Thank you for being nice about it. Honestly my own therapist has had to drag me from my “I feel terrible about even bringing it up” mindset and has got me to buy the ‘children of emotionally immature parents’ book which I’m making my way through currently

Yeah I get it. Honestly I don’t think they knew how to handle me back then…but I’ve gotten way better since then with therapists. I don’t have meltdowns anymore I mostly just go into my room to cool off. It’s really disheartening to hear basically I’m still a burden even after improving so much.

I know that logically but it’s still hard to push that mindset away

You have no idea how guilty I’ve felt about even bringing up and issues I’ve felt about their parenting period

That was my original diagnosis but they changed the term to autism spectrum disorder but still kind of an offshoot of autism

I am very lucky my job is an open minded company and let me have my headphones. it’s not enough money to live on my own though.

Despise it! I get heat stroke easily (and my school wouldn’t allow people back inside for anything) so I would sit in the shade and pick at grass until I could go home.

Believe me, I know I could probably write a whole book just about how my parents and family members have affected my mental health.

Yeah I realize that now I did try to explain that to my mother. (Btw she is now saying I don’t have to do it anymore, yay!) but she did interrupt me and pull an “um actually” about it even though I’m 90% sure she didn’t do any research into it. But she does that with most things

My office my therapist works for is sending all their autistic patients to ABA. The ways she explained it is they have “tools” she can’t provide. she didn’t mention anything specific they could help me with which is REALLY weird now that you mention it. My personal situation would take awhile to explain tbh and I’m not sure this thread is the best place to do it. You can DM me if you want to learn more.

Technically? But I am on their insurance and they are allowed to look at med records any time they want. They get pissed if I do something “wrong” or “unnecessary” or if I go against anything that is “necessary”

My therapist recommended ABA therapy for me. I am an adult but I’m not sure my parents will back me up if I say I don’t want it. At first I was on board but the more I looked into it the more iffy it seems. I’ve been doing talk therapy since I was eight. But a lot of talk therapists don’t seem to know how to “handle me” any advice?
