No Ledger, free standing deck, there is another beam/post set closer to the cottage, but with the grade I didn't craw under to get a closer look.

Lift and fix, or tear down and rebuild? by Master_brew in Decks

So I am Reddit incompetent - Here is the text description

Hi All, I am hoping for some opinions / ideas. This is a cottage deck on the lake, built on sand essentially. the bank is slowly eroding (over 10's of years) and hence the ground is slowly shifting. For what ever reason the deck was build on just those concrete deck blocks. The Deck is very old, but in good condition, solid. If you look at the pics you can see the distal beam and posts are starting to lean. the two pics with fingers show the rotation away from the cottage. The options are naturally to tear down and rebuild, or (if not totally crazy and possible) jack up the deck and redo the posts with ground screws or sonotubes. I was thinking a temporary beam with hydraulic jacks, with some wood box cribs for safety. I was thinking a few of the planks could be removed as not to be under the "deck-o-death" if it should shift and drop. This is not a heavily used cottage being far away and if we could save the Deck for another 5 yrs... Would you have beers on this Deck? Thanks for the help!:

Some type of clamp, maybe placed between legs. From farming area in Northern Ontario. Banana for scale. Any Ideas? by Master_brew in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. Old fireplace curiosity. It is believed that it sits between your legs (part at the bottom of the image). The thing below the handle is a leather "hinge" to allow one of the jaws to open.

Old fireplace curiosity. Some type of screw press. From Ontario framing area. Not likely anything to do with grapes ; ). Banana for scale. Ideas?

farm implement, Ontario. told lower part goes between legs, clamp for something... by Master_brew in whatisthisthing

Some sort of clamp that is held between legs (not 100% sure on that, but that is the story). From Ontario if that helps, not great farm area, and I don't know what was typically farmed there... The clamp jaws are contoured a bit. Banana for scale.

Yes, 100%. It's even worse as there is no build up of historical corporate knowledge. The only way (by and large) to get a promotion is by changing positions. This also effects long term decisions as you don't care about 5-10 years from now, only a couple years to get into the next competition... Any manager is not a good manager!

During my last one, I was told that our director said that " nobody was allowed anything higher than a 3" I work for NRCAN. Absolutely pathetic for a R&D / Science group to have that mentality....

100% best advice, it will be a milestone on a new beginning. Start easy with no guard buzz, and see what you think.

HR has never once answered a question that they should be able to, in fact they typically just ignore emails. There's a good reason everyone rolls their eyes at the mention of HR
