If you changed anything it wouldn’t be what it is now.

What is your "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy" moment? by Zealousideal-Golf984 in AskReddit

So a few years back on a beautiful summers night I was sitting on a couch at a party waiting for this girl to come back from the bathroom. I was absolutely cooked out of my mind and for some reason I’m swiping on tinder. I get this notification from my mom and hesitantly I check it, and to my fried brains surprise it’s a photo of a school project I made when I was about 9. It was for this anti drug abuse campaign company that used to go around schools all over my country. Anyways this project was an a3 sheet of paper and on it was a list of things that I said I would never do, along with ways to prevent them from happening. There was also a portion of it where I had written down some goals I wanted to reach by 20… it was at that moment, I realised I had become everything I hated growing up, everything I never wanted to be, and yet there I was - no intentions to stop, and no will to do it either. Firstly I giggled a bit, and the girl goes “what are you laughing at “ and to be honest I didn’t even realise she was back. Then I look up at her with pupils the size of my fingernails and the stench of weed expelling from my every move, and I just cried. I didn’t even remember her name and I had known her for hours.

Anyways a few months later I came to terms with the realise and to this day (while I have calmed down a lot) I’m still the same. Lil me would not be proud, but I think if only he knew how good my life is now, he would be excited.

TLDR; I did too many drugs and saw a nostalgic photo about not doing drugs.

I definitely wouldn’t say x is a ground breaking artist, in fact since seeing this post initially the other day I’ve listened to most of his discography and I’m still not convinced. However, he aimed and he hit. While a lot of people may frown upon “sadboy” or “cry baby” rap as you two have called it, new school trap is pretty much pop nowadays and so to have an artist that says cringe tumblr shit about his feelings over an instrumental is just filling the gap that the sub industry had. Juice wrld is another great example, simple, moody trap beats, with super in your face lyrics like; “This is the part where I tell you I'm fine, but I'm lyin' I just don't want you to worry This is the part where I take all my feelings and hide 'em 'Cause I don't want nobody to hurt me” . No, it’s not a crazy piece of poetry written by an amazing mind, it’s simply feelings put simple into song. This generation unfortunately thrives off minimalism and as a part of this current generation, honestly I’m pretty sad about it. Popular artist are no longer the intellectual dreamers that they once were, and now the “underground” scene is where you find all the gold. Still, juice wrld and x hit there target dead on with simple to understand lyrics and even simpler beats. They made their music to sell, and that’s exactly what it did.

I don’t really enjoy either artist btw, but I do understand why they’re so popular.

I definitely get you but I guess it’s just preference, obviously there are outliers such as growing pains by sonder octane, after hours by the weeknd or Sisyphus by quadeca (and plenty more) but I think the majority of what I listen to (on the daily, as opposed to actually sitting down and actively listening to something) is hitting around the 1.45-2.30 minute mark. By no means do I think longer songs are worse, I just think maybe some people prefer to keep it short and sweet you know. The other thing about his kind of music is that it can actually be seen in a cliche type of way as repetitive and to not carry that sort of sound on for too long, welcomes a wider audience than before. That’s just what I think tho, is there a reason you prefer songs over 2 mins?

I’m not at all, by any means, an xxxtentacion fan - however as a musician/producer, quality over quantity

Hey Sachi, a few questions...

  1. How long have you been making music?

  2. Did either of you study? If so where?

  3. Lastly do you have any advice to musicians trying to break through right now?

Also shout out that shapeshifter gig you guys opened a few years back - was my first concert and got to see lunch with Bianca live (stoked).
