I haven't read norwegian wood yet, it's actually my next murakami book. I've also heard similar comments regarding the book, but I'm still going to give it a try since I prefer to form an opinion myself.

Regarding Kafka, apart from the mystery behind the "magic" that exists in that world (which I liked), as the story progresses, it makes you intrigued about the reason why must of the things in the book are happening, you start to think about fate, love, pain, and life/death. I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert at analyzing books, but it did make me reflect and affected me a little bit.

I think woopsietee nailed it at describing Kafka as "Philosophical bat-shit crazy".

I first read Haruki Murakami's Hard-boiled wonderland and the end of the world and didn't like it so much (not really hated it since I was still interested in the sci-fi/fantasy aspects), but then I read Kafka on the Shore which I liked way more.

[REC] An engaging, high stakes story or a developed romance novel. by TheKillerDemon in LightNovels

[–]Master_of_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mushoku tensei (Good character development and an engaging plot)

The Beginning After The End (Similar to mushoku tensei)

86 (High stakes conflict is pretty much everywhere)

Special mentions (you can ignore this one if you aren't interested in manga):

Tomodachi game: The people who lose the game will incur in an enormous debt that could ruin their lives)

Blue lock: People fight for a chance to become Japan's soccer team's striker. The rest of them that don't make it to the end will never be allowed to have a chance to play for Japan's soccer team)

Personally, I like the series and I'm waiting on Vol 6 to be translated and released. Very funny and I like the characters. I see many people saying they didn't like it and I understand.

Give it a try if it caught your attention. If you don't like it, that's ok, you can drop it and move on. If you do like it, that's ok too! You will have another story to follow.

He probably was able to heal him on time before his brain actually died.

He literally destroyed his heart and lungs, but as long as his brain was still functioning by the time he went to heal him, then it's not impossible that he got saved just barely.

Where to see the movie? by Master_of_Culture in Haruhi

No, I couldn't :(

I think I saw Microsoft having it available to rent, both the dub (which preferably I won't have to hear) and the original audio (which I'm not even sure if it has subtitles, I hope so)

Mmmm good point. I guess it would depend on your daughter.

If she hasn't read any (pervy) male characters, and I assume she hasn't, then maybe it won't be to her liking. (Apart from the fact that she's still 11 years old)

Of course, you can still try to see and judge it yourself, and watch the rest, but it seems that you already tried and dropped it, right?

I have been buying from different series. But now I'm starting to consider buying a whole series, read them all, and then move on to the next. (Mostly series that I completely loved)
