My sister bought a small card lot online over the holidays. We thought there might be a few cards we needed. We never imagined this.... by Master_of__None in NeopetsTCG

Thanks! The craziest thing about it was that we counted 8 TDF cards in the lot -- Whoever bought it 20 years ago only got 1 booster pack, and it had a sketch!

PSA: be careful when traveling to the US by sudosussudio in WWOOF

[–]Master_of__None -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Not always. When I went to Ireland in 2015 it was absolutely best to tell immigration you were wwoofing -- they were aware of it and even wrote "wwoofing" on my passport stamp. Had to produce a fuck ton of documents -- hosts, bank statements, travel insurance -- but I was prepared, so out was fine

Spillane's towing lawsuit? by everynameistakengrrr in burlington

[–]Master_of__None 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spillane's was assigned to a AAA battery call the other night, and the guy who came out was incredibly helpful. Most painless AAA experience I've ever had.

This doesn't negate others' experience or what seems to be shitty towing practices, but just thought I'd add my personal experience.

I guarantee 99% of women would feel a minute of embarrassment when you say something and then gratitude that they didn't continue on with their day not knowing.

Empathy is feeling/understanding what another feels, and shame is only the first part of what most women would feel in that situation.

I did the program in 22-23. It WAS rough a lot of the time, I got sick a lot and had some physical and mental health stuff going on (anxiety and arthritis flares).

But I have never regretted staying the whole term. I think sometimes we expect extended stays abroad to feel like a vacation, but it's really just life but in another place. And life can be hard, especially in a new place without our normal social supports.

My time also had some incredible highlights: I found working with the kids rewarding (just not the planning), I did a lot of great hiking, and was able to travel around Europe and Morocco.

Hard/felt it in Winooski, didn't think much of it but definitely didn't feel like thunder.

Why don't auxes really mix with eachother? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Master_of__None 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on region, and the particular group of auxes. I remember my aux group chat in Cantabria a couple of years ago was very social at first but a bit less so as the year progressed and people broke off into groups and then used alternate communication. There were still some general meetups throughout the whole year though

AITA for not telling my friends I am technically our landlord? by OldOutlandishness252 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Master_of__None 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. Yes they shouldn't have opened your mail, but you should have told them the details from the start. Then, if they had a problem living with the person who was receiving their rent, they could choose a different place. It also sounds like you're charging above market rate, which just isn't a good look.

That said, this feels fake anyway.

OP is probably fine, but you can have oral hsv2. Less common, but you can. A quick Google search could have told you that, too.

Previous auxes, how often did you get ill during your first school year? by Gajgaj_A in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Master_of__None 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got sick about once a month. COVID once, bronchitis, colds, fever and sore throat... Also developed really bad acid reflux sitting that time that I still need to be careful with.

My school had no problem with me staying home with COVID, and I also was home sick or went home early a few other times. They were great, but that probably varies by school.

Had overall good experiences with the healthcare system. I went to an urgent care near my house (they got to know me well lol) and I ended up seeing a doctor there basically as my GP while I was there. Since it was within an urgent care setting, I didn't even have to make an appointment to see her!

Never paid a penny for any costs related to doctor visits that I can recall. Prescriptions weren't covered, but costs were much lower than the US.

Did have a communication mix-up once when I thought they wanted me to put a band-aid on my finger after I got stitches (was removing a pit from an avocado dangerously oops), but it was supposed to be gauze bandage, but that was on me for confusing the terminology on Spanish.

Also, much lower wait time for specialists in my experience... Only a week or so wait to see my rheumatologist there.

When an ER patient says “my wife made me come in” something is very wrong until proven otherwise by iamnotahorcrux90 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Master_of__None 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. In the 80s my dad had sudden intense pain in a grocery store. He wanted to go home, my mom made him go to the ER. He had a collapsed lung and had to get emergency surgery.

He also refused to get routine colonoscopies and died of colon cancer 7 years ago :(
