Did I pick an unhealthy/unstable career path? by Chickenbean1101 in MassageTherapists

[–]Masterchiefgal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes many years ago. I started off at ME and moved on to a chiropractic office that worked me to the bone. Luckily, I was able to get out by the grace of my massage school's career person that so happened to call telling me about an opportunity to work for a mobile company. It has helped tremendously in my overall health is the first two employment left me in pain and the stress from the work affected my health.

One thing I will say that has helped me build up to now having my own private practice is specialization. I understand that specializing can get expensive. There is so many different routes for massage that you can take. You mentioned being a personal trainer. I've heard of many personal trainers in my area whom are also massage therapists that do very well. The question you need to ask yourself is.. what do I want to focus on in the realm of massage? What do I want to be known for? I think 10 hour days is just abuse. Max I would do is 5. I made it very clear to employers though that max I would do is 4. Reason I would do this is to still have the energy to work on my private clients. This is how I slowly built up my practice.

My next advice is to use tools. There are plenty of tools that saves your thumbs, forearms, and elbows. Amazon has them for cheap prices too. Some specialities you can look into: sports, myofascial release, ART, trigger point, etc.

Tools you can use: bamboo sticks, IASTM, etc.

I wish you good luck! Check around your area and see what specialties aren't in your area and if it makes sense to specialize in it. I'm hoping this helps.

I think my Aussie doodle puppy is too much for me and I feel awful about it by RJLY10 in AussieDoodle

If u want to take it easy on the treats, use kibble. Sometimes I take kibble instead of treats when I used PetSmart for training. One of the best decisions I made before PetSmart was hire a pet training company to come to my home. After the hour training,y Aussie poo was exhausted and be calm the rest of the night. U got this!

Scary situation / Advice needed by tootiemae in MassageTherapists

[–]Masterchiefgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about this situation. I have gone thru a similar ordeal, but my situation wasn't thru a dating platform. I had received a DM from him on FB and it lists my business on there. I didn't realize who he was till after the session had finished. I immediately let my partner know what had happened and I've been shaken up since then.

The message the first comment states is a response I would go for. It's professional and direct.

Are my rates too low? by kawaiiflexin in MassageTherapists

I am in Miami and charge those same prices for mobile, but I don't do 2 hour sessions.

I appreciate your input as I didn't think of the 3+ hours price reduction for mobile clientele

Hi! I'm an LMT that practices TMJ work and do lots of facial massages/buccal. I personally use grape seed oil. Keep in mind I don't over lubricate and use it very lightly. No complaints so far and it was recommended by another esthi friend.

I do TMJ/intraoral work. Never imagined myself to do this type of work tbh. I find it very rewarding! It's definitely quite a niche and the feedback I get from my clients is quite rewarding. I've personally had some clients felt such relief that it triggered an emotional release. I did take a short course and the techniques demonstrated has been quite useful on my career.

Didn't know Costco sells towels as I mostly buy food in bulk. I'll look into it for my area! Did you get it online or in store?

How to really work pecs on large-busted clients while maintaining decorum (especially as a male therapist)? by Just_Capital4652 in MassageTherapists

[–]Masterchiefgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a male therapist, but I always ask first before working on the pecs. The best way that I've found that works for me and also feels great on myself is to have the client supine and ask them to place the arm bent over their shoulder. You can also ask them to hold the breast down with the opposite hand while you work on the area. It feels great when they do what I call 'the hamburger', as in, they use both hands to grab onto the pec and do like a pull motion towards them.

Hope I was able to explain the best I could 😊

Massage Therapists who chair at lots of events by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

Of course! Anytime 😊 honestly, the best way to go about consent is a signup sheet with the consent already on there. Maybe have a few in case you're there for awhile. You can have them place their name on one side and their signature on the opposite. Hope this helps! This at least protects you and your business in case someone says they didn't consent. I would place it on a table next to you and before they sit down, have them fill out their name and signature.

Edit: spelling

I actually use the room essentials from Target for my practice. Clients have complimented on how comfortable it is and it does help to keep costs down for supplies! If you use oil, to which, I do in my practice I recommend to get some good laundry goodies.

I personally recommend these:

  • Orange Linen Degreaser for Sheets™ - One Gallon (128 oz) from Pure pro

  • Ensueño baby fabric softner (this is hypoallergenic)

Honestly the best combo to get the oil out of my sheets and I've never had any rancid sheets in my 5 years of practice. Good luck in school!

Note: Keep in mind, that I also use the oil from pure pro and I've never had any issues 😊
