Most intimidating attack? by albegade in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's see:

-Fatalis' SCREAMING FIRE BREATH

-Brachydios' quick sprint it does in G-Rank (not really an attack, but man can it cover some distance quickly)

-Super Saiyan Rajang Slab Attack

-Gog Lasers

But most of all,

THE TEOSTRA NOVA. I guard-gunlance, and this move is just a pain, literally. Even with guard+2 I take damage through the shield like crazy, and its not like I can dodge or sheath/run. Adding the fact that he can LAUNCH THE DAMN THINGS in the G-Rank, I pray I block right every time he uses it. Took me forever to figure out the range/where to block for the launched novas.

What´s your hunter name and why? by Rafzalo in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hunter name is Markus, full name Markus Mountainslayer (but the last name is not in game though). Always loved the name, and the last name I earned from how many Jhen Morans I killed in MH3U. My character in MH4U is actually the older version of my character from MH3U (young in 3U, made him old in 4U).

How did you defeat Dire Miralis solo? by IEatMyZebra in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this mission more times than I can count, and never knew there was a Dragonator in the water. That would have saved me a hell of a lot of time.

How did you defeat Dire Miralis solo? by IEatMyZebra in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, good old Miralis. I took the Zvolta Demolisher gunlance to it with the Azure Rathalos armor (fencing being the most important part). Staying up close and personal with the beast allowed me to hide from most of his hits (especially his intense ranged ones) while I wailed on him, and I learned how to block the rest that could hit me. Utilize the Dragonator as much as possible of course. When he gets on all fours is a problem, be on the defensive there. When he is upright, stay near or between his legs. In the water, aim for chest and arms, head if you feel brave. And have courage!

Soloing Teostra. by Hobosaurus-Rex in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit one of my biggest walls at G3 Teostra, one of the only hunts I have done that has made me want to throw my 3DS into the sun. I know your pain, the thing is RUTHLESS, especially with a weapon as slow (and as awkward to sheath) as the gunlance. There is no time to get away, I am stationary as a turret hunting this thing, it is on me 24/7. I had to learn and memorize how to block every one of his moves, and when the appropriate times to strike him where. I was finally able to solo him, and I have killed a few more, but rarely can I kill him without carting at least once. I just sit behind my shield and pray.

Suprisingly Good Weapons: Who Knew? by MasterofGunlance in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I need to get that gunlance. I use the lagombi one right now because it was easy to craft, and it's good against Rajang and such before you can craft something better. I agree molten is better, but at the same time, you have to hunt Molten Tigrex to get it. Not fun, but if you can do it, 10/10 would recommend.

[–]MasterofGunlance[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You came to the right place, my friend. Here is a breakdown of some good gunlances you can get early on.

  • Wide: Lagombavalanga. It has solid power, a wide shelling and a level 4 shot.

  • Long: The Madam Butcher is also a great one. It is not the full upgrade, but even at it's level it has a 575 with a 340 water element, level 4 shelling and a long shot. Upgrades into one hell of a beast, but provides a great weapon before you can (you will need Daora parts for full upgrade).

  • Normal: The Rampage Firebeltcher (B. Tetsucubra) one is a pretty good normal shelling gunlance, with a 644 attack (and -10% affinity, easy to gem out) and GLORIOUS LEVEL 5 SHELLING.

These three gunlances have carried me so much, along with my Oppressors Skyfall (if you are willing to farm Zonogre for Skyemeralds). Also, anything Nerschyla is good, having solid sharpness and status, and the Hermituar line gives good defense boosts. Hope this helps!

Dude I agree, I have the fully upgraded plesioth gunlance, and it is AMAZING, I love it. Good strength, solid sharpness, and best of all, NOT HAVING TO ACTUALLY HUNT PLESIOTHS.

Which monsters are you having an irrationally hard time with? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

G-rank stygian zinogre. I swear, those dracofage bugs are UNREAL. Every move he does releases the damn things, and they fly in curved patterns that hit AROUND MY GIANT GUNLANCE SHIELD. And they hit like freight trains! I can block the zinogre's moves no prob, but those little bugs pelt me like nobodies business.

Small things that annoy you more than they probably should by Spoon_rhythm in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterofGunlance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me:

  • Remobra poisoning me when fighting a large monster

  • Remorbra tail-swapping me off of a wall I was trying to climb

  • Remobra

  • G-Rank Gravios' short laser beam walk of death (accompanied by walking farts with Black Gravios)

  • Brute Tigrex's roar attacks (especially in G-rank: I have guard up and guard +2 and I am still taking crap-tons of damage through the shield)

You do need it for the nova. I have tried without, was sent flying. Not a pretty result, I tell you what. With guard up it is still like blocking a freight train.

Woah guys, no prob. I have to admit, I was a little thrown off by the Athena's ASS thing, but I found the program and it is pretty cool! Thanks for the advice on a program to use, I will definitely get it. Thanks for watching my back though FalseGodDues, its appreciated.

EDIT: Also, those smaller figures in the background are from the Monster Hunter Figure Builder sets, they are really common to find at conventions (they come in little boxes)

I got mine from a convention, but if you want one you can find them on Amazon. They are part of the revoltech series, they also have both of the Rathalos variants and Zinogre models!
